was thinking aong the lines of a gift cup... in the bottom have say some mini foil wrapped choccies (possibly make your own using melted choccy in a silicone ice cube tray) or some yummy fudge then maybe add a coffee scented candle and pop in the top a brown or cream scrunchie to look like a frothy hot chocolate or hot choc with cream
    ...

Sounds brilliant ! I saw a cup and saucer in the charity shop the other day with coffee motifs all over it................I'll have a look tomorrow to see if its still there. Failing that I'll use the Cappacino mug I've got. It's plain white with the wording Cappacino on it but its deep enought to get a few things in. How can I get it to look as if it's got sprinkly chocolate on the top ? I've got cream scrunchies and sort of coffee coloured ones as well.

I went to the flower market yesterday
it was freezing cold.I spent most of
the day thawing out and they did not
have any cherries or strawberries and
no plans for getting any in,so it looks like
I will have to buy online.

Went into primark they had no red flannels
in,but did get 4 brown ones for £1.50

While I remember mumoftwo what are the
measurements of your christmas cake ?
I plan to make one for next christmas
but the one slice I have made looks like a
    tubby triangle.

I love reading what you're all upto in this thread, but who uses flannels these days....everyone I've asked uses sponges

    hi sandy2

    I use a scrunchie and I use
    flannels too.In fact I
    sometimes carry one in my
    bag if there is room.When
your out and you need to
    dry your hands in toilets

also if you have little ones
with you you can dry their
    hands a lot quicker than
    trying to hold their wriggling
hands up to a drying machine.

    Morning All....

No-ine had a go at a car then.....I'm really desperate for male versions of all your lovely ideas:o Plus we don't have a Poundland, Primark or any other decent discount stores around here:mad: So come on guys...put your thinking caps on pleeeeezzze?

Like the idea of a "coffee" cup, but we've so many mugs & stuff already I'm not sure we couldn't open our own crockery dept!

NB---I used to love watching House Invaders & all that kind of show:p They used tea-bags to age paper, then flick on instant coffee granules to look like age spots while the paper was still wet. Some of the best were old sheet music, & some pages torn from a reading book---I'd probably use mills & boon for that cuz I can't stand all that bodice ripping:D You can use PVA to 'varnish' stuff too, cuz it dries clear....sorry, I'm probably preaching to the converted now:o

My neighbour once decorated her smallest 'smallest room' with pages from holiday brochures, after she'd collected a few for choosing her trips-- --just stuck them onto the wall with wallpaper paste.

Did my trip to the charity shops and the coffee cup and saucer was still there so I snapped it up, along with a couple of really pretty tins I can fill with sweets (look better than in the cardboard boxes you get quality street in).
Looking at the state of our spare room I must have enough stuff by now.................lol
Now I want to have a go at trying to make this cup and saucer look like its full of frothy coffee but don't know how to make it look as though its got chocolate sprinkly bits on it.............without actually putting the proper powdered coffee on ! Any ideas ?

  • Thats a tricky one mary43... Im not sure that would be possible... I just think if you put a scrunchie in the top of the mug then wrap the gift in cellophane that would look really good.

The only thing I can possibly think of for the sprinkles is using some brown sequins or something similiar from a craft store??? The only thing is they wont stay in place and if you sew them on then the scrunchie can`t really be used for its intended purpose.

Its not an easy one is it. I think maybe if I put the coffee coloured scrunchie in and pop a couple of sugar sachets/tubes and a sachet of chocolate sprinklies down the side it'll at least look a bit like they do when you order them.
Thought I'd got a vanilla spoon somewhere but can't find it.
Really going to have to set myself a day aside to plough through all these things.
I've got three bath bombs cellophane wrapped I want to wrap a cream flannel round and tie it (bit like a xmas cracker) with some clear sparlky 'flowers' I got from charity shop, this coffee cup, muffins, not to mention covering my twiglets box, soaking the labels off wine bottles so I can decant the cheap bubble bath into them and stick on some images I printed out. Crikey..........think it'll take longer than a day.........................lol Be fun though.
Must sort out what I've got. MILs basket for her birthday is all 'rose' themed -mug, toilet bag, covered coat hangers, various 'rose' creams, mini roses as soaps. Like to get a hand towel and flannel with roses on from somewhere.
I did find a free printables site with notepaper on with roses. That should be her sorted out then and I've got some voile with roses on to wrap it all in.
All this certainly stops the January blues...............:j

  • Crikey mary43 you are now busier than me... you could maybe have a go at making a chocolate spoon to go in the coffee cup... take a plastic spoon dip it in melted choc, allow it to set and keep repeating this process until you have built up a thick layer on the spoon, wrap in cellophane and tie with a thin piece of gold ribbon.

You say the coffee cup also came with a saucer , why not pop a wrapped ammeretto biscuit on the saucer or a couple of mint crisps (Boxes of Elizabeth Shaw mint crisps are always on BOGOF in morrisons!)

Nearest Morrisons is about 20 miles away. I could kick myself........when I popped in to the pub to meet OH this lunchtime and had a coffee they gave me a biscuit wrapped in cellophane. I never eat them. I should have brought it home...............always used to and had a nice little collection of them at one time. Must make mental note for next time.
Not too sure about making a chocolate spoon though............me and stuff in the kitchen don't mix very well..................lol No telling what would happen...........lol
Are those vanilla spoons fairly cheap to buy ? I've got a cappacino mug in the cupboard as well so thought I might do the same thing with that. At least it''ll have a use.

I am going to be busy if I want to reach my target of getting it all done by the end of August. Got cards to make as well !! Not even started on those yet. Got plenty of stuff to use on them so shouldn't have to go out and buy anything..............I'll have to double check though..........there's a sale on at our craft shop at the minute..........all the christmas embellishments, but I really must try and resist them..................the idea of it all is to use whatevers about the house and what I've already bought and I'm trying to keep check on what I''m spending. Don';t want to make it the most expensive Christmas ever.................lol
(Overspent today.............£14 instead of my usual £10 -or less!!)
