merrymary, your towel cake is beautiful, well done! :D

Can I ask, was it difficult to make? I'm thinking of possibly making one for my nan for Xmas.

thanks everyone, it it wasn't for this site i wouldn't be able to make something beautiful like that :o

it's so easy to make, i didn't need to use safety pins just rubber bands to secure each tier then take it off when i've put the ribbons around it. it looked stable enough, it survived my wobble test :D

i used bargain m&s towels posted in grabbit not long ago, worked out about £4.67 all 8 towels (2 white 1 pink wash cloth, 1 white 1 pink hand towels, 2 white 1 pink bath towels) :p

the cello wrap is hessian gold bought from ebay seller used by most of you here.

and i've made the bow myself too. :D

Hi all, just wanted to let you know that asda are selling silicone cup cakes 12 for £2.00 they are not large enough to make flannel cakes i dont think (looks like i will have to have a go later!). They come in pastel shades (baby pink, lemon, and baby blue) and also darker colours (red, orange and hot pink) there are four of each colour in each pack. I am not sure if there are other colour packs as it looks like there had been all different types on the shelf but as they are cheap people were flocking round (fellow MSE'ers me finks lol)

Hope this is of some use to someone:D

    All the best xxxx
  • I made my first cupcake this morning! I havent got anything to top it but considering they will be to go in christmas hampers they can wait!

I just wanted to share something with you. My aunt and her friend got into making cards a few years ago. Every year they have a stall at a local craft fair - one in the summer and another before Xmas.

My aunt is pretty crafty and always making things so I sent her a flannel cupcake and a dozen empty cupcake cases. She made up a dozen flannel cupcakes (used red pompoms for cherries) and displayed them on a cake stand. Most of them sold at the summer fair this weekend. She is now a flannel cake convert and has already tried her hand at swiss rolls for the Xmas fair! :D

i have been avidly reading this thread today and i have everything i need to make some flannel cupcakes and i was thinking about selling some at a charity event on saturday but i don't have time to order the cupcake cases! i have been trying and failing to create a decent enough template for either a square or round case and i was wondering if anyone had a template that they use?
