A couple of suggestions because you don't want to be finding things out in an emergency.

Maybe on this trip to your new house, look at things like the condition of light switches and electric points, and their location and how many. Ask to see the fuse box and check whether it looks modern (we have just had to replace this to comply with 2016 regs for our house insurance.

I've just spent a lot on sorting ours out. In addition to a new fuse board and RCDs,  putting 2 quad powerpoints in the kitchen where there were 2 doubles. Once you have plugged in your fridge, phone, radio, bug zapper and under counter light there were no spares! The appliances were all under the counter tops but anyway, got a couple spare now.

Also consider where any manhole covers are and what the drains look like, and ask about where the water isolation valves are (for the house, and whether your sinks and appliances like washing machine plumbing have them). You might want to take a notebook and paper or take pictures on your phone with notes.

Are you going at a different tie of day? living on a road that is getting busier in the morning and evening rush, this might be something to check.

Thanks SL I have wrote a list of things I want to look at and check out I hadn’t wrote the water isolation on my list thanks for that I know the street and it is a quiet place and our house stands by itself at the bottom and backs on to the cricket field no reason for anyone to go that far down I know some of the neighbours it’s just a small street and I need to ask about what day is the rubbish collection because whoever was in before there is a bin full of empty bottles in the garage I can’t wait 😛

Your hubby sounds like Mr SA, he always says we when it means me doing something not him. Hope you still like the house when you see it again.

I’m with you on getting it sorted so that you know what you’re taking and where it is. Cardboard boxes and marker pens will become your best friends if I remember rightly from when we moved here......but that was a long time ago.
