Make do, Mend and Minimise in 2021

On the Make Do part, I needed saucers for under plant pots which now house my seedlings.
I'm a bit reluctant to shell out however much the local garden centre tries to gouge out of me for the terracotta saucers, but I re-discovered our bag of plastic food trays (waiting to be taken to recycling), some of which are the perfect width for this purpose.
They're not exactly aesthetically pleasing but they don't have to be.
Also sewed up a popped seam on one of OH's tshirts2024 Fashion on the Ration - 10/66 coupons used

I made do (and minimized my yarn stash) with left over yarn from making a blanket and some scrap fabric, to make a cover for my new bible.

MrsCD that's really nice would u mind if I ask what the knitted part is please
I'm more of a lurker atm trying to see how this all work
Soheregoes make do I've been out of fresh milk and long life since Saturday so usin the evaporated milk up as its best by May 2021 I'm not usually bothered by the dates except when it's milk eggs or cheese due to taking a chance and regretted it say no more on that
Mend a quilt cover I bought in the sales the machine hadn't caught the seam all the way all fixed and in use now
Minimise now that should be easy but I'm finding it difficult atm. I'm still waiting to move 5yrs plus so most things are packed up but I decided to try and reduce things a bit more as my son needed some birthday presents for an 11yr old i opened up 5 boxes we'll 2 items have left the house but I've not been able to get any further maybe now I can make some more head way I've about 60 maybe more to go through yet the biggest problem is my kids didn't label the boxes they packed so it's a bit of a lucky dip add in fibro and I've just been told I'm anemic so hopefully once the tablets start helping I'll have more energy to get things done I thought minimising would be easy. Nope it's not not when you've done the obvious junk the things beyond repair the games with missing bits etc

Hi, @muffin_man_7
The cover is crocheted in the Dahlia Spike Stitch, see...
https://attic24.typepad.com/weblog/spike-stitch.html
I made the Meadow Blanket as part of Lucy's Crochet-a-long during January and February, and had some yarn left. It's Stylecraft DK acrylic yarn and I wanted a different pattern stitch. I just made up the size as I went along. I sewed a bit of scrap fabric to fit and sewed it in by hand.
It kept me out of mischief for a while!
Well done on mending the quilt cover.
Yes, there's a big difference between 'use by' and 'best before'!
Could the children go through some boxes and label them for you?
I hope you manage to move house soon and get settled. It would probably help your health too. Take care.2025 Fashion on the ration

Morning Peeps,
Slow but steady progress going on here.
Minimise - Sorted out some worn pillow cases and they are now converted into rags for the shed. Also in the last week fully on top of the washing and (there is only the 2 of us!) Tatty underwear did not get on the line but walked them straight to the bin...just 1 t-shirt of mine also converted, there are a number of them coming up ready to convert. That's after I have paid a visit to the charity shops. I am still sticking to the rule where something can only come in if something has gone/going.
Make do - Did make a lovely long bunting for a friends birthday for her sunny back garden. (yes the sewing machine did come out) It is still on the kitchen table as need to make another one, this is for a des res shed(for the grown up ladies)
Mend - Not done any mending as such but at least the sewing machine is still out and being used. DH has done some more wall toppings the other day, now half way and is looking a little more tidier. Not quite a mend but I have started creosoting the fence panels, only another 40 to do.
Hope you are all enjoying this lovely weather.

Making do with the food we have in.
Minimising, sorted through some drawers yesterday, found clothes to donate, some to sell & some for rags.
Dug up a very large clump of grass, divided it, & planted in new places. Minimising lots of weeds too.
Hubby is being mended in hospital after being told he has renal failure. Thank goodness for the staff in the NHS!Use it up, wear it out

Hope your hubby recovers well, Thrifty_Taylor. My Dad has stage 5 kidney failure and was originally diagnosed about seven years ago. He had dialysis for a while then opted to come off it when my Mam was very ill and he's still going on ok at 82 years old!2025 Fashion on the ration

Wow, good old dad! He must be made of strong stuff!! All these positive stories give me hope. My husband needs a transplant within the next 9 months, but was told yesterday he can return to our island very soon. Not sure if that will be to the local hospital, or home, but at least he'll be closer 😀Use it up, wear it out

Morning Peeps,
Diverted myself this morning to pop in here and keep out of the CS just a little longer. Quick question has anyone any suggestions cost effective please about how to coverup untreated wood fence panels? They moan about my colour seeping through, I did think of the plastic (I know not very eco friendly) leaf trellis that are quite in at the moment, they are double the price it thought they were and need 15
Make do - DH used flags already in the garden for topping off the walls he built a couple of years ago now. Garden is coming together nicely.
Minimise - The yellow plastic bags and odd pieces of stone holding them in place have been removed, recycled or binned appropriately. We seem to be going through a stage of binning tatty underwear!!
Mend - nothing going on here, not sure if that is a good or bad sign at this time.
Continue to safe Peeps
