How much to live on

Just spent mine on pretty mundane items. Shoes. Ties etc.

Claimed mine and bought a walking pad with it! Along with two books for my Kindle.

Yes claimed and spent some of it with no issues.

I must confess I'm rather impressed with some of my purchases - I took a gamble on some shirts with minor imperfections (eg stitching) from Amazon which weer £10 each. Delighted to say they are from a very good quality manufacturer who sell them at full price for £69.95 (a ridiculous price in my opinion but hey they are very nice shirts!)
On the budget side of things our council tax is going up over 5% but this is going to be offset by a fall in gas/electricity billls so all in all things appear to be going well.

Our kettle broke and I bought a replacement, so the voucher was rather timely. I'm not yet sure what I'll do with the balance.
I've handed in my notice, due to fully retire at the end of March, with my last working day likely to be the 30th of March. As a result shirts aren't very high on my wish list. Once I stop needing them for work I'm not expecting to wear one very often.
I don't have very many plans in place yet for retirement, but the weather should be getting better by then. Finances are looking good. Cashback recently gave us over £1000 between us, and we haven't had any big expenditure recently.

Many congratulations on your retirement plans @Nebulous2

We still don't know what our council tax will be. Teachers pensions have a 3.8% increase from April so one will cancel out the other, as they do.
Six months into being (semi) retired and I've not regretted it once.We have so many things planned I'm losing track. My husband and I now have a shared calendar on our phones to keep up.

Hi everyone,
Long time reader of posts, rather than posting! I just wanted to take this opportunity to say thank you to all who post on MSE. In particular those who post about paying off the mortgage early and early retirement nd how much to live on etc because……….drum roll…….. thanks to all the advice over the years and careful money management I shall be retiring just before my 59th birthday in May after 44 years of work!😁 😀 honestly couldn't have done it without everyone's advice so - a very big 'thank you' to everyone who posts here 👏
2019, move forward with positivity! I am the opposite of Eyeore :rotfl:25 -
Enjoy your retirement after starting work at 15 !
These forums are very useful, not just for those starting with little knowledge about money management etc., but even those with some more basic knowledge still learn new things on a regular basis. Plus importantly you can see that everybody thinks in different ways about money, retirement and life in general !

Same here almost, reading the forums for a long while but have paid mortgage off, saved and I can go this year at 60. I had Sat jobs but lots of temp p/t work before paying myself through college and starting my 'proper work' at 25. Did two jobs for 7 years to start to be able to pay mortgage and bills, one full time the other 4 nights a week.
