It already feels very strange. Yet I know the time is right.
As mentioned previously I'll carry on on a very reduced basis teaching only what I want to teach. (A levels). 3 days a fortnight is manageable. Only one parents evening. No data drops. An income that with no mortgage still gives me more disposable income than when working full time with a mortgage. I'm greatly looking forward to not having to do the things I don't enjoy and having the time to potter round during the week.
I don't have an extravagant lifestyle really. But I've set our budget at a level that gives plenty of flexibility. I plan on changing the car every 3 years. I've set aside £8k for holidays each year. £4k for my discretionary spend and factored in all bills, birthdays, Christmas etc.
Our overall income and budget has changed a fair bit over the last three years with inflation etc. Through making use of the ideas on MSE we've been able to keep costs down and save more. I can't quite work out how but I think it's a combination of setting a sensible budget and taking advantage of offers when they are available.
All in all it's turned out rather well.

Enjoy organ-grinder, I retired at 59, just work 6 hours a week in a NHS admin role. It's great because I can roll up hours worked if I want a week off, plus I get 4 weeks holiday. Have almost run out of sick leave unfortunately ( 2 orthopaedic procedures in 13 months), but the pressure is much less when it's on your terms. The two half days mean I usually know what day of the week it is:)

I'll be 59 at retirement. Will be working a little more than you though!
I enjoy what I do. I just feel the time is right to do a bit less! It averages out at just over a day a week. 58 days over the course of the year.
