Floss & Brie Thank you so much for your comments and interest!
Hoping I might have found a way of going forward....if I'm lucky!!! I found a wool shop on Amazon who have some limited stock of cream 100% wool Aran yarn by the same manufacturer, (Wendy Wool), tho the band round the ball is completely different which is what makes me feel mine is very old stock. Just hoping that the colour is a reasonably close match...if so I will start again knitting the whole of the back in the new wool. That's gotta be better than joining new wool in half way up I think....a slight shade difference might not be so noticeable this way. As the supplier offers free postage I have sent for just one lot as a test. Should be here tomorrow so fingers X'd. Another idea is to try dying the whole blooming lot if all else fails but I believe you have to use hot water and I do not trust myself with pure wool and hot water, (thinking doll sized Aran sweater!) Ho hum!

Couple of finds from today's jaunt. An M & S 50's stylee shirtwaister midi dress in a tan and white print, 99p in the St Gemmas Hospice shop, (thought it might not fit as is a size smaller than I usually take but it's fine....thanks Covid for the lost poundage!). Then got a pair of M & S pale blue 'Mom' jeans....20p from the 20p shop
Re my wool drama...yay, the wool was a close, tho not quite perfect, match. Sweater is completed now with just one bit that I'm not completely happy with but if I stick it in a drawer for a few weeks I will have forgotten about the imperfect bit!9 -

@Miró - that is beautiful knitting especially the bobbles. I have never mastered those myself and I'm most impressed by your speed and expertise.6 -
As my local dry cleaners do 3 for ? (cant remember) it was cheaper to take the dress in with the 2 items i needed dry cleaned rather than pay for 2 at normal price. I will try to take a photo when it comes back. Its shirtwaister style and yes it does feel lovely. All dresses, skirts and trousers in my local CS are £1 regardless of make etc.
