GoldfinchesHaggling in charity shops - that's another no-no for me.The only exception would be if there was something wrong with an item - maybe taken up poorly, or a hole or mark below where I would shorten it to.Magpie100 said:Then I really splurged. I found a Paul Smith dress for £19.99 in age concern. It is a pinafore style, fully lined, in shades of pink and grey. Absolutely beautiful and I can’t wait to wear it in the office in the autumn. A bit £££ but probably still only 10 per cent of the original price…As I said up-thread, it's not the price you pay, it's how much it cost originally.Much better value than the £2.50 wanted for a pair of worn Primark leggings that I saw yesterday. I know they are £2.80 new.9

last week I found a beautiful shirt by Mary Portas for £3.50. Bright orange with pink trimmed cuffs and a pink stripe on each sleeve. Really beautiful cut and have worn it out twice already. Then I really splurged. I found a Paul Smith dress for £19.99 in age concern. It is a pinafore style, fully lined, in shades of pink and grey. Pollycat...also loving the boots!
Heard yesterday that a local, long decommissioned, medium sized, Asda is about to open up as a furniture & household goods chazza for the St Gemma's HospiceAnd it's right next door to my fave community chazza and over the road from the Sue Ryder furniture chazza. I think we have the makings of a 'Charity Shop Village'

Sue Ryder triumphs today...
2 books at £1 each and two lovely iridescent mugs, shallow but wider neck. Brand new, but will need a good wash. Perfect for gift sets I plan on creating. They were marked at £1.50 each but I somehow have paid £4 on total and didnt think till we were outside.
My son was particularly taken with a typewriter in case, but £25 a bit much for his whimsy. Entertained him in the shop at leastWealth is not measured by currency8 -
I saw the most gorgeous Ted Baker maxi dress in our hospice shop yesterday.Flowered (Ted Baker does it so well) and a chiffon-y type fabric, fully lined. It was a size 1 - 33" bust/26" waist/36.5" hips (I think I was that size once upon a time
) so I left it for someone else.
Only £10.00 which was at odds with the price of other dresses from Dotty Perks, Wallis, Next etc.A real bargain for someone but even if it had been the right size I couldn't see me wearing it as it was a dressy occasion dress, not the chuck-on-a-denim jacket and pop to the pub on Saturday afternoon type frock.I did buy a 3 cup cafetiere (which is 3 espresso cups or 1 normal cup) brand new for £3.00. I don't think it would have been much more than £7.00 new but I've been after a small one for ages. I'd rather have had the Ted Baker dress though...6 -
Awww Pollycat, I feel your pain re the TB dress. That make only seems to cater for stick insects from what I've seen. Only go up to a size four, I think, which in real life equates to a small 14!!!
Today's jaunt to Otley and the St Gemma's 99p shop saw me come home with an M & S floaty summer dress in rather garish shades of orange and black, an M & S bias cut, floaty midi skirt in ice cream shades of raspberry vanilla and chocolate and an H & M blouse - long sleeves, hip length, tie at the neck in a gorgeous shade of dusky greeny/blue satin. Think this might be brand new as it still has the spare button dangling in a poly bag from the care label. Everything was 99p each, (of course!!)
Wasn't sure if I should be travelling today as we now have the highest case rate for Covid in the entire country here, (thanks to the blooming' irresponsible student behaviour recently!!!!!). Nothing had been said about staying at home so as I've been double jabbed for a while, have been doing lateral flow tests twice weekly, did a PCR test today and I'm always wary when out I decided to go.....6 -
Pollycat, love the urban footwear! Ted B seems to design for a Muse who is oddly shaped. Gorgeous fabrics, excellent blokes suits, but for Madame it’s very If…I haul my chinaware back in bags for life & newspaper & the car. I think the latter is a roaring cheat but we have lugged boxes quite a way to get back to the car. Bless them, the lads are troopers reaching & replacing for me & lugging alongside me!4

had a little outing to Otley today got myself a soon top bright orange with ruffles no the front, a zip up "sports" jacket & a Tu long top/ short dress black with small flowers & my brother a shirt & pair of trousers all from st Gemmas, of course 99p each, had a lovely chat with a couple of other shoppers who are regulars at St Gemmas, one of the had the orange top originally but said to me I am putting it back do you want a look first, I happily took it off her hands. St Gemma's isnt great for size 18 plus but better than lots of other charity shops.
I also picked a friends little boy 3 tee shirts, a pair of jeans, a pair of joggers & a pair of shorts all at 25p each to grow into he is just 4 but these were all 4/5 & 5/6.
Then picked up another friend a couple of what other shops would call vintage/retro jigsaws in the 20p shop, this is such a strange place but you never know what you will find in there.7 -

I love the idea of going to a Yorkshire town and doing a bit of chazzing. I'm running out of decent books on low carb to buy online and had to resort to eBay. I haggled an eBayer down to £20 for a first British edition of Strong Medicine by Dr Blake F Donaldson. Then saw it on Amazon UK for... £896 !
That's my all time greatest bargain. Even better than the Ermenegildo Zegna merino wool trousers which my husband picked up from Oxfam in Sheffield for £10.5
