LAST THREAD OF
2020
May
I wish each and everyone of you, regulars, oldies, newbies, returners and
lurkers a very Happy 2021 may it be filled with happiness and not too much
dust.
This
week will see a LOT of newcomers which happens every year, sadly many of these
ladies and gents do not stay long. This influx usually means the thread is very
very busy, please do not lose heart if you cannot keep up with everyone else or
reading the thread, don't try to reply to everyone and please remember to
include something about flying in your posts, chat is for the weekend when your
home is looking beautiful!!! Things will settle again in a couple of weeks so
don't worry it will return to normal and we will hopefully have some new
fledglings.
What
is FLYLADY? Well, it's our version of the US flylady idea - but we work on the
principle that housework is not fun, it's boring, can be time-consuming, is
often thankless but, unfortunately, necessary. It's here on Old Style to
provide the support we all need and to make the whole task easier and quicker.
We also accept that, sometimes, life just gets on top of us and we can't keep
up, maybe because we're time-poor, not in the best of health and/or we have
littlies who need us. We are definitely NOT control freaks aiming for
perfection and utterly spotless show-homes.
Welcome to the
weekly Flylady Thread. You're more than welcome to join us in the everlasting
battle against dust, grime and gibble. The aim of our thread is to make those
onerous tasks less daunting, and to support each other - and to make time for
the finer things in life!
Please do remember
we have to abide by MSE rules; each post should, ideally, include some mention
of flying.
Thank
you Valli for last week's thread
Every
room comes back around next week so please don’t stress about catching up
THESE LISTS ARE ONLY SUGGESTIONS AND NOT A MUST DO LIST, ALWAYS WELCOME TO
POST AND FOLLOW YOUR OWN.
Also adding a
declutter mission each day. Another one where it’s up to you if you want to do
it or if you need to. This follows requests from members who are looking to
declutter. Fling boogies, hotspot clearing, cupboard sorts, drawer sorts etc
will all be on this list. Any problems with this of any suggestions do please
let me know.
A few of the basics
before we start the week
Hotspots are any areas which if one thing gets put there, loads of other
things follow!
Daily routines are anything you need to do on a daily basis like washing, swish
and swipe kitchen and bathroom, ironing, making beds, vacuuming high traffic
areas, making meals etc
Night-time routines are all things which make getting ready in the morning easier,
preparing clothes for the next day, making lunches, swish & swipes of the
kitchen and tidying the living room before you go to bed plus personals like
shower/brush teeth etc.
Fling Boogie - stick on some loud music, grab a binbag and whizz around the
house finding items that can go out with the rubbish, recycling, for charity
shop, basically anything that will stop it cluttering your home.
Swish and swipe/S&S means have a quick wipe over an area such as a sink or toilet to
prevent the build up of dirt. This is usually done on a daily basis
HHE/HHC/HHI Half Hour exercise/challenge/ironing ... run around for 30 minutes
to the Benny Hill music frantically cleaning exercising or ironing.. other
music may be used if you prefer!
WM ~ Washing
machine
TD ~ Tumble
dryer
SC ~ Slowcooker
BM ~ Breadmaker
DW ~ Dishwasher
SOAADFA ~ Sit on 'bottom' and do 'nothing'
KH/XH/FW ~ Ex-husband and other not so polite versions
DH/DD/DS/DW/DP ~ Dear husband/daughter/son/wife/partner/whatever
OH/SO ~ Other
half/significant other
NN ~ nice
neighbour
Toxic (friend/mother/sister/whoever)
~ person in your life that seems to exist to make your life miserable
AF ~ Aunt Flo
'time of the month'.. nothing to do with flying but it comes up often.
ETA ~ Edited to
add
Gibble ~ miscellaneous crap that appears forever homeless
Dot-to-dot ~ pick a small area (not a whole room) like a
chair/coffee/table/shelf/worktop or wherever- thats your first 'dot' - totally
clear it - clean it - and only put back what should be there - deal with what
you have removed (not just move it somewhere else) then if you have time move
on and do the same to another 'dot' -the idea is just like a dot to dot puzzle,
you aim to join up all the dots and have a tidy room. The trick is to keep each
dot tidy until you get them all joined up! All credit to AnW's
Mum for this one
RoD ~ Room of
Doom, the one room that feels like it is a permanent pit and cannot be used to
its potential!
Mr S/A/T/M/L/Al - supermarkets Sainsburys, Asda, Tesco, Morrisons, Lidl, Aldi. You
get the picture!!

Ok here goes this
week!
FLYLADY THREAD PICK'N'MIX
I am adding just the day but you will notice it has a bit of everything in each day, but you are free to either do a whole room (all three levels) or mix up the levels across the week - so, for example, you might pick level 1 to do for all rooms. Just post what you HAVE achieved! Sharp-eyed flyladies will notice there are six lists...because YOU are picking and mixing. You might choose the worst room to really make a difference (and because you have the time) or the least minging because you're short of time.

Thanks to Natty for the new list and Valli for last week's.
I shall be doing my best to keep the house clean and tidy - it's not at all bad atm, and I changed DH's bedding yesterday so that's one thing off tomorrow's list- but I also want to do a few bits and bobs from my Toots list. It would be good to start the new year with all the pictures up on the walls, the stool mended and the sewing drawer finished, and of course there's always the regular admin to do and the family history papers to sort! And I must clear the back yard in order to make space for DS1's gift of 2 trestles to make a bench for my hosta pots
Hope everyone has a good (or better) week, and if you're still on holiday do take time to relax xx9 -

Morning xx
Thank you for the thread xx
I think it's a Bank Holiday here- but I don't work on Mondays anyway so I'm staying at home either way.
Plan today is to get all the pots WUDUPA and find homes for my Christmas presents. Plus I need to call at Mr C00p, get some cash to put in DS's birthday card and take it over to him. My 'baby' is 28 on 30th December.
Have a good week. Stay safe. Hugs.

Morning round and everyone - we have snow, and it's beautiful! Rosie surprised me by going out to do the necessary but then immediately racing back inside - in previous years she has always delighting in rolling in snow. Perhaps she really has become used to our English weather! I, on the other hand, put on all the outside lights, stood outside and at open windows to take photos, and simply delighted in getting covered in large flakes
I have *not* added "Sweep paths" to my personal Flying list for today. Maybe later... if I really have to.
Admin jobs are next on my list, but first I need to go and make a second cuppa11 -

Morning all. Thanks as ever for the lists. I am in but will probably play catch up tomorrow as I am planning another relaxing day as it's a bank holiday.
Have a great day everyone.Spend less now, work less later.9 -
Morning all
Thanks for the lists x
Due to our efforts yesterday the house looks pretty good so it will be dailies and laundry for me today. Will get out for a walk later plus need to do my physio. The rest of the day will be for pottering and relaxing, I might though tackle the teetering pile of paperwork that’s on my desk....
Second cuppa first and then shall think about facing the day xx9 -
I must have gone back to sleep 😴 I've woken up (sort of- I think groggy is the word) and come down for a much needed brew.
No snow here. There may have been a frost, but I missed it. Brew made and tree lights on. Waking up properly then
Round 1 =
laundry shuffle
get dressed
feed the birds
put out the recycling
breakfast
Lovely to look at ionafan but please don't send it here. 😉

Good morning all
Thank you for the lists. Yesterday’s rare outing for the vacuum cleaner (downstairs only so it doesn’t get ideas above its station) means that the house isn’t too bad. RoDs are still very much RoDs though, and I thoroughly cba to plan an attack for the future.
Woke up to a decent amount of snow, which was a surprise, and the skies are really heavy still.
Not sure what today will hold, to be decided. I suppose that I ought to finish knitting DSis’s Christmas jumper. In the meantime, cuppa had, book finished, I may also get dressed.
Hugs to all, keeping my sticks and spoons xx9
