Did what was supposed to be a little top up shop in Ald1 but did my usual stock up of staples without really thinking. £30.44 in there. Then went to the butcher to get some of his bulk buy deals 5lb of steak mince and 5lb pork loin steaks so £31.40 in there. I know I could get it cheaper but I like to shop local and the meat is all locally sourced too. Besides it’ll do the 3 of us at least 15 meals - more if I’m careful. With that and the meat and stuff in the freezer, I shouldn’t need meat for 3-4 weeks.
Grocery spends stand at £143.73/£200 for Jan. 9 days to go and hopeful I can come in well under budget without running the stocks too low!

@suffolk_lass that’s a good idea thanks.
I think it’s the current climate of never being sure of if / when we might have to isolate and therefore think if I’ve run out of something better top up quick. Also though trying to limit shopping trips so every time I shop I buy a lot so I don’t have to go again too soon.
Before March I went shopping probably at least 4 times a week, we never wasted anything and we hardly had anything in the cupboards or freezer. Now I am trying to go once a week only but it takes more planning, especially now can’t just go out for dinner. It’s just a change I am trying to get used to, but also trying not to overspend! Takes practice!4 -
Shopping this morning and spent about £25ish leaving me with just over £36 for next week so hoping I can come in within budget as that will be the last shops of the month.5

Morning all, my son's teaching assistant contacted me yesterday to ask if I could make use of some spare lunch parcels. So we've got some extra milk, cheese, yogurts, eggs, bread, fruit, tomatoes, cucumber and tins. Should mean that next week I don't have to buy much at all, as we've got main meal ingredients in the freezer and store cupboard, lunches sorted with this donation and breakfast is cereal from the cupboard or toast.Grocery Challenge 2024
