The OP states 'We're in that position and we were planning just one day of (small) family celebration on Boxing Day' this sounds unlikely to include people who have mixed with others on Christmas Day.sheramber said:
It is of these people are celebrating Christmas Day with otherselsien said:The OP having exactly the same arrangements a day later as they would have had on Christmas Day isn’t putting anyone more at risk.0 -
They'll just mix with all the locals in Cornwall/Cotswolds/Lakes etc and spread it about because they are selfish and have been for a long time thinking it wont affect them/and that the world revolves around London & South EastJeremy535897 said:
Looking at the number of Londoners with suitcases in the stations just before the restrictions took effect, there may not be enough left to mix.MarkN88 said:
Nothings changed. Just pointing out regardless of the tier there will be plenty who mix throughout Christmas because they think they are above everyone else and deserve the rules to be different for them.Thrugelmir said:
What's changed? There's a significant minority who haven't cared at all in the past months. No reason for them to change their behaviour just because it's Xmas day.MarkN88 said:There’s still going to be plenty of people that will ignore the guidance/law anyway and do as they please at Christmas. Already heard in local papers, on the radio and even people talking generally they won’t be adhering to it.0 -
BBC News showed one young lady queuing for a train in London who told a reporter she's travelling as she refuses to spend Christmas alone.couriervanman said:

There's also now pictures of people queuing up for the last Eurostar service out of London, it appears they were mainly French people wanting what may be the last transport back to France for a while.
It's worth noting the first known hospitalisation due to COVID in Europe was discovered to be in a hospital in the Paris area around this time last year. It was originally misdiagnosed as pneumonia but when the French health system re-examined some cases of suspected pneumonia, they found that COVID case. Therefore, it's quite possible COVID arrived in London in the Christmas period last year due to people returning from Paris carrying it, without realising.0 -
But that could be said by everyone. What about celebrating on 27th or 30th or 1 Jan. No matter what date you pick somebody will want another one.elsien said:The OP having exactly the same arrangements a day later as they would have had on Christmas Day isn’t putting anyone more at risk.
People will do what they want but they will be breaking the law as it stands, whether we think it is fair or not.
A bunch of strangers on the internet cannot give somebody permission to break the law.
get on with what you want to do and keep quiet about it.0 -
My opinion is that all MPs have been quietly told by their Whips that they are to strictly adhere to the regulations.Barny1979 said:So any guesses at which MPs and Celebrities who will be caught breaking the Tier Guidance?
Given compliance has fallen since the Dominic Cummings saga, if any MPs are caught breaking the regulations at Christmas, the compliance for NYE would just disintegrate.0 -
The Labour MP Rosie Duffield didn't receive the same media atttention at the time. Wonder why?gettingtheresometime said:Barny1979 said:So any guesses at which MPs and Celebrities who will be caught breaking the Tier Guidance?
