The redefining of the relaxed Christmas period is in the new law, and does not include Boxing Day:
Amendments to the Health Protection (Coronavirus, Restrictions) (All Tiers) (England) Regulations 2020

Tier 4 restrictions will be enshrined in legislation long before the 25thBarny1979 said:This is guidance, so, so long as you apply common sense, you are doing the right thing.
ETA: they already are. The amendment is out, the updated version of the act incorporating the amendments just hasn't been published1 -

How small is ( smal) and what are the rest of the guests doing on Christmas Day? Are they mixing with others?swinstan said:The new limitations for Christmas are understandable but what about those having to work on Christmas day, notably NHS staff? We're in that position and we were planning just one day of (small) family celebration on Boxing Day. Has anyone seen anything suggesting that this is a reasonable adjustment in this situation?

Not here (Scotland) it isn't. We're still allowed up to 8 people from 3 households. Relaxed for Christmas day only though and no cross border travel unless for essential purposes.epm-84 said:

Just because a law can't be enforced doesn't turn it into guidance rather than lawBarny1979 said:0 -
The police could enforce it even though there probably won't be police on the streets in large numbers. I expect the people most likely to be caught out are the ones who live in streets where a more serious crime is committed and the police turn up to follow up on that crime and while they're in the area they might look for an signs of households mixing e.g. someone unloading presents from a car on a day when the shops are closed might raise suspicions.Andy_L said:
