2021 MISSION DECLUTTER and CLEAN

Hi, hope no-one minds me posting pic of one of the two bookcases I acquired from a neighbour (decluttered wine in exchange). I know many of you upcycle furniture and really like advise on how much/which bits to paint and what paint? DD2 doesn't want one as she doesn't like the frilly bit at the top (can't remove it) and I'm not keen but like the size. The top has water marks which won't sand out easily but unsure whether to paint all. Marked shelves but the tongue and groove is slightly yellowish. Vulpix thinking of you in particular
Have time off work so thought I could paint and then declutter books from bags and boxes. Sunshine is out so feel abit more motivated!

DH came home and said “you haven’t cleaned the windows”. I was 😡 with him after all my hard work.
He says he will do them whilst I am at work tomorrow

@TC77
Two colour always looks nice,with the back of shelves in one colour and the frame in another. Something like this could be done with any 2 colour paints.

D1234... haha women who kill. No one would convict you!
TC77 stick your head inside the top shelf. The fancy bit will only be screwed on. You might be able to access the screws to get it off. If you can’t get it off without taking the top off you could get a piece of wood cut to stick over it and cover it up. Or paint or cover a piece of card to cover it. It is fashionable at the moment to decoupage. If you fancy full or part covering in paper I would give the bookcase a couple of coats of emulsion. Then stick wallpaper/wrapping paper in the back or wherever you fancy. Wax or varnish over the emulsion and paper to protect it.Money....Sam’s painted pic is lovely. You could easily paint the whole thing. Sand it a bit first. Depending on the finish you want,emulsion is like chalk paint if you seal it. Tester pots are good. Waffling now but another finish to hide the colour and stains would be to lime it. Sand,paint a section then wipe off with a rag whilst wet. The paint would enhance the grain. Happy to help anytime.I gardened till 6pm. Not finished but it went dark.

Thanks @moneyonmymindsam and @vulpix thanks for advice and suggestions. I know if I don't paint it now when I have leave to take it could be 10 years or never. I used to decoupage things many years ago, so may do this with other things. I think as it has tongue and groove back will paint, maybe two colours, thinking french grey as the main colour, I will get satin or eggshell as don;t want to have to seal afterwards - more scope for things going wrong.

@moneyonmymindsam I always have 2 pairs of slippers, as you never know when a pair is going to give up, and can't live without them as have very cold hard floors in much of the house.
We had some sunshine which really helped today, hopefully more of it for everyone x10
