I definitely need to join instead of lurking! 2021 is going to be the year where I finally get the house looking good inside and out, so when visitors are allowed back I'm ready! I have a massive toiletry hoard, and craft supplies taking over the spare room and a giant cupboard. I have a big box of things to sell, probably on eBay or Facebook, when I get round to it as well. I struggle with stationery, I love it and have loads of supplies of blank notebooks, pens, sticky notes I never use, art supplies for art I never do, and endless backups of staples, pencil refills, glue sticks, etc. I have huge storage tubs of fabric I don't use - especially bird prints - so I will probably do some bundles for eBay in a few weeks, and gift some to my crafty friends."I cannot make my days longer so I strive to make them better." I am up for this challenge as we were looking to move in with my lovely mum as she wasn't coping and had terminal cancer so we have been doing our property up with the view to getting all our ducks in a row if we needed to move quickly , unfortunately we lost my mum on 19th December so we now have 2 properties to declutter and sell so we need to be super organised and finish all the three quarter finished projects and seriously rationalise what we have between the two houses xSlava Ukraini19

I'm in - again. We didn't do too badly considering the lockdown in 2020. Even managed to declutter a cat to Liverpool. We keep on collecting stuff for the charity shops which won't be open while we're in tier 4.
Hope everyone's Christmas was good and everyone has a happy, peaceful and healthy 2021. Thanks to everyone for your advice. I've started reading the blog suggested, which is really good and I'll keep reading that.
I decided to start in the kitchen today so I emptied the DW, reloaded, washed up all the pans at put everything away. I did a bit of rearranging and emptied and reloaded the DW a second time. Wiped the hob and cleaned the worktops and even put a plant in there hoping people would respect it a bit more.
After coming home from 3 hours work, everyone had left their lunch stuff out - pans, plates, glasses. I didn't say anything because I didn't want to start an argument, I just cleaned it all away. Once we have had dinner, I'll do the same so when I come down tomorrow morning, I have one clear area to look at and hopefully that will spur me on.
DH has an operation tomorrow, so I have to drop him to the hospital by 7am, then I'm working until 11.30. Once I'm back I'm going to concentrate on my bedroom. I think if I'm the only one putting the work in then I'm going to make my space nice first.
Have a nice evening everyone!Declutter challenge - 81/1500 (5.4%)

I have lurked here a while, never joined anything like this before but I'm determind to declutter and tidy my house, especially now one of my sons has moved out permanantley and the other is temporarily living with his GF. I have a huge recipe book and knitting and sewing stash, fabric is one of my downfalls, I have a huge stash, and find it really difficult to part with it, I have some that was bought whilst I worked in the fabric industry nearly 30 years ago!! I hadn't made any clothes for sometime but lots of crafting, but I have been more motivated since sewing scrubs during the first lockdown.
My main problem is that I am very sentimental about items - I have things that belonged to my grandmother that are not valuable, not useable but I just can't bring my self to part with them as they envoke such strong memories - I am going to start by collecting them alogether and trying to part with one thing, hopefully I can eventually just keep one or two two as memories.
Today I have sorted a box of books for Ziffit, and made £7.63 (putting this into a savings jar but not decided what for as yet).Fibro-Warrior19 -

Maybe the fact that you have two houses to clear will help you concentrate on what your REALLY need to keep, and what will be useful to other people. Hope so anyway.
I haven't got any ducks in a row... think everyone ate mine at Christmas!I Believe.....

ClaireT13 I get sooooooooooooooooo infuriated that I can unload the DW, or hub does, then within minutes he has left a cup or a plate on the top. He knows it's empty!
I have also started to do laundry once a week, start on a Saturday or a Sunday and do it till it's finished. Usually done by Monday morning. At first I thought I would start on a Monday and do till done, but I find I have more little pockets of time where my routine isn't disturbed at the weekend. It's soooooooo nice not having laundry every day. I realise not everyone has the space to do that. There are two of us and I do my daughter's laundry, but she has CFS and only wears pyjamas and knickers, so she's no trouble. I do the handwashing (my cherished hand knitted socks mostly) every other weekend. If there's a 'rule' then it never gets to be a big job.

bella, very sorry to hear about your Mum.xxx
2 more things out.Plant from the bathroom that I forgot to water and a pair of Christmas earrings into the car boot bag.
I used to be sentimental about things.I had breast cancer a few years ago and it made me think that if I died no one would know what these things were and they would just be binned. Some things I have given to my children other things I have sold to collectors who will appreciate them. Some have gone to the charity shop to help those less fortunate than me.I always support the Salvation Army shop. Some things I just binned.I realised I didn't need a gig ticket from 1975 anymore.
I forgive myself if something was expensive.1. I loved it enough to buy it. 2. I enjoyed owning it 3.Let someone else love it. 4. I don't need to be it's custodian forever.
Claire you are right, make a lovely space for yourself first.xx:20 -
Rubbish day is tomorrow so I did some decluttering of the small bedroom to ensure the wheelie bin went out full, I've hurt my foot so I'm unable to stand for too long but managed a hour today. Ten books bagged to go to a friend for a doorstep drop off when I can drive and some stuff my sister will be able to use for her work at a preschool, they are a charity and need to be creative with donated stuff as they have had no fund raisers this year.
Some crafting stuff has been tidied so it's taking up less space and a box of paperwork brought down stairs to go through whilst I'm resting my foot tomorrow
