Please can I change my target Mrs SD? I was initially counting items, but after sorting DD's clothes and toys today, I have decided to go for bags instead. I didn't want to count every items as there was tons of little fiddly things.
Today:
One charity clothes bag
two bin bags for general recycling.
Three bags in total. Target = 50.
September 2017 Debt = £25330
Starting afresh.

You are definitely going to be busy Luciecat63 - made me tired reading your list 😉 But do remember to take time for yourself - a cuppa & a sit down when a mini task is completed or a walk - whatever is a treat for you 🙂

Thanks Mrs SD.
I just couldn't face counting all the items in the bags! Much more practical for me to do it this way.

Hi Mrs SD,
Please can I join?
I had a messy cluttered home and a hoarder husband and then my Mum died and now I've added a Luton van's worth of memories to it! So difficult to let go of her possessions.
I'd like to aim for 2021 items. I think this will suit me as I get overwhelmed by the scale of the problem and this allows me to make a day positive by just getting rid of one thing.17 -
Morning everyone!
I finally tackled the corner of my bedroom that I use as a dumping spot! I also got rid of the box of lindor chocolates so I can’t get my head focussed on my weight loss! I’m slowly getting all the kids Christmas gifts away so downstairs is beginning to look more like it should and I think I’ll take one of the trees down today.
I have the following to add to my totals-
6 books to charity shop when it opens
10 bottles of shampoo, shower get etc that I bought for the sake of it and won’t use in bag for the food bank
6 half done bottles of make up that are probably out of date and won’t fit in my new Christmas make up bag!
An empty glade plug in that I’ve been scared to use incase it caught fire but never threw out)
And a bag of rubbish that came out of the corner of my room.Total 67/500
Todays plan is to strip the beds, go through the boxes that contain the old Xmas wrapping etc and tidy my dressing table drawers before I head back to work tomorrow,Hope everyone has a lovely day!xx17 -
Hello
Please may I join you? I have been avoiding my house issue for so long but this has to be the year that I tackle it.
I live in a very nice house but inside it is unloved and disrespected by my family. I am ashamed to say that I lost the will to tidy up after them and now I feel I have such a mountain to climb and I don't know where to start.
I need to tackle every room from a clean an declutter angle and I am so overwhelmed.
I work 3 jobs so time is hard to find, but I was hoping if I join this group it would keep me motivated and accountable.
I have put some pictures below to show you what I'm dealing with. This is multiplied all over the house, in every room. Sorry about the pictures but they seem to have gone in sideways!
Any thoughts about where you would start would be so appreciated. One thing I should say, is that I accept that there is a build up of "stuff" here. When decluttering, I need to sell rather than donate if possible as I need to raise money in the process, so I need to store things that I am trying to sell.
Thanks for all your thoughts in advance.Declutter challenge - 81/1500 (5.4%)

Morning Claire,
I would, if I was in your situation pick one room to start with and only one part of that room otherwise it will be too overwhelming.
Personally, I'd bag up anything that won't be good to sell and start removing them, but others on here might do it differently. Things that can go straight to the bin are an easy achievement for decluttering as it's instant progress. This might give you the room to store your items that you're selling.
I hope this helps xSeptember 2017 Debt = £25330

@ClaireT13, you are not alone - those could be photos of my house!! We've been like this for years - combination of chronically bad MH (me), laziness (all), and too much stuff. 2021 MUST be the year that I get to grips with it, but it will take a long time as it took years to get this bad!
I've joined in this thread again to keep me motivated, especially on the bad days, even emptying the kitchen bin makes a difference, or getting one bowl of washing up done.July 2024 GC £0.00/£400

I'd like to join too...over the last 2 years I have decluttered a husband to become an ex, a large 4-bed house into a small 2-bed home via almost 5 months of my stuff & cat being in storage & me living in a bedsit, moved to be nearer my family and changed my job to one that I love.
I'm currently working from my spare room and have wasted too much money on "stuff" so want to declutter some debt, lose some weight, refine my wardrobe and get rid of the things I don't need or use.
I need to do some work on the house to balance the previous owner's taste (redecorating the bathroom, hall stairs & landing, living room & kitchen) and lack of maintenance (re-felting the roof & new patio/french doors) so a good clear out will help and any monetary gains will be put to good use!
