What kind of light is this?

Options
Moved into our new house last week. I thought the bathroom lights were GU10, so just went to swap the bulbs over and it's something totally different!
Any idea what kind of light this is? I've taken the top cover off.

Many thanks for your reply. There are a few similar looking ones on there, bit nothing exact. Will drop them a message!

  • Cree make LED chips that other manufacturers use too so it could be made by almost anybody [although probably won't be a cheap one]. If the white bit doesn't come out when you twist it, then you've probably taken the "lens" off the light in a fixture where you can't change the bulb. When selecting a replacement fixture, pick a GU10 one and you won't have this problem again.

Many thanks for your reply. I was really hoping it was going to be a GU10 when I took the cover off! Now I just want to try and work out what kind of fitting it is. Not sure how you actually get the entire fitting out. Seems like it should pull down fromthe ceiling, however was worried if I used anymore force then the ceiling would come down with it! I shall try later turning the white led chip holder and see if that moves at all.

This is the light with the lens in place.

I have emailed CREE - However might be a dead end if as you say it might be another manufacturer using CREE led's.
  • If there's more than one that's failed could it be a failed transformer rather than failed light fittings? Can you access it from above?
  • Just pull the whole fitting gently from both sides, it will pop out of the ceiling as it will be on two spring clips. Be careful putting it back in, they are like little mousetraps!

Did you try twisting the white bit as advised?

I think It looks like either a GU10 or an MR16 but the lens has fallen off the bulb.
if it's a GU10, it'll twist off, if its an MR16 it will just pull out
  • Thanks for the replies and apologies for the delay in replying, as been at work.
No reply back from CREE. I've tried moving the middle white bit, however it does not move. No give at all. Also tried again to oull the whole fitting down, can see the spring arms - but does feel like it would pull half the ceiling down.

Certainly not a GU10 or MR16. Was hoping it was!
