Prepaid money card for NI residents

Did you get the verification email?

I got 3 emails altogether, the last one verification completed, and the card arrived 7 days later.

Talking to a number of people, they had not received their card yet.

There should be a number on the NI. Direct site?

my DD tried her card in a few places but wouldn’t recognise chip. She then tried it in Tesco who keyed the number and expiry in to till and she was able to use it. She then tried 3 local independent shops to spend it as intended and they would not key in the details so it will be used in Tesco. I then tried mine in 2 different places and it wouldn’t work, explained how my daughters had to have the number  keyed in but they wouldn’t do it so off to spar and used the whole amount to top up my electric. Girl in spar said they have had loads in where the card won’t work and they’ve had to key in number.

I applied for the card on the second day after the scheme opened. I got the confirmation emails but I still haven’t go the card. Does anyone know how long it takes? 

Also, I heard Nolan talking about how it can be used to buy oil, electric, gas etc. I’d like to buy an electricity top up with it which I’ve always done online. Will the card work online for things like that? If not, could I use it over the phone?

No, cannot be used online.   Over the phone I doubt it as you have to input the pin they give you for the first use it seems.

I was told that buying oil, some delivery drivers carry a mobile card machine you can use when they deliver.

My card I used on Saturday and worked fine, no problems.

Bye the way when you get it the easiest was to activate the card is the TEXT message service outlined on the letter. It was instant security PIN by return text

Seems quite a few have failed verification and being asked to supply further proof.

I was chatting with a friend yesterday.   She said she had to do extra verification.   Knew she had made a blunder put her national insurance number the wrong way around.  But as she was doing it on the mobile, she hit next and couldn't get it to go back.  So photos of bills with her name and address, proper national insurance number and photo of her driving licence sent.

I heard a few people who have not received their cards yet saying it was being extended into December to use.   But I have not heard anything on the news or online news about that?

It was always estimated that all cards would be received by the start of November, giving people four weeks to use them. I doubt any extension would come before then.
