Start saving up for the fine/future insurance and in the meantime buy a bicycle is likely to be the best advice

  • For most simple speeding offences (i.e. in the fixed penalty range) the police rarely check the insurance position. You may be lucky.
  • Ah brilliant you think I will be looking at a ban

What "ticket" has come through? What letter have you sent?
If it's a speeding offence, and your girlfriend has named you as the driver, then you'll get a letter in your own name in due course. Provided you deal with that correctly,  it's extremely unlikely that the insurance status will be checked.

No, most likely scenario will be 6 points for no insurance and a fine for both offences.

    They could ban but unlikely.
  • sorry it’s not a ticket just your run of the mill letter that comes through for a speeding offence and I’m not a named driver on her insurance all my other policy’s my insurance has been 3rd party on other vehicles For fully comp but because my job title has changed so has that part of the policy I found this out the other day when I rang up

A lot of people assume that comp policies always includes driving-other-car cover. And a lot of people are wrong... You NEED to check before borrowing somebody else's car. If you think it's something you're going to need, you check when you take the policy out.

Do you live together? If so, then it may well be that DoC cover would not have covered you anyway, as members of the same household. Adding your partner to your policy as a named driver is usually very low extra cost, if not free, assuming they have a reasonable driving record.

As far as this speeding ticket goes, you've got two choices - assuming that she's received the s172 request to identify the driver...

    1. She lies and takes the ticket. You both cross your fingers that they don't twig the attempt to pervert the course of justice.
If they do, it's a very serious offence - people have gone to prison for it.

    2. You put your hand up to it. You cross your fingers they don't check the insurance.
If they do, it's a serious offence - six points, and an offence code that insurers REALLY don't like.

As car_54 states if its from a fixed speed camera managed by the local Casualty Prevention Partnership insurance won't be checked, that's not their role.

Fill in the form, sit tight and wait for your letter.  You may get a speed awareness course offer which diesn't attract points.

It’s already been sent away with my details as I say my other policies allowed me to drive other vehicles as i had a crash in her car last year and was covered  just my job title has changed and for some reason it’s taken that part of the policy off how long do the offences last for thanks
  • You probably will be ok. I got speeding fine, and they didn't want to see anything, apart from my driving license and the colour of my money. didnt get points because I took an on line course.
