I've just read through this entire post and I'm actually amazed and shocked that everybody has completely ignored this comment
    ......
Furthermore the terms of the system when you put your bank details in seems to suggest they have outsourced this to another US based organisation “ Trustly”. The terms are full of nonsense and if taken at face value imply you having over all your banking login details and granting them power of attorney to do stuff on your behalf. .....

Clearly all those linking their bank accounts have not bothered to even scan through the terms and conditions they have agreed to. To protect yourselves you really do need a completely isolated bank account, and I suggest you all go back and review the T&C's you've all agreed to. DO NOT link eBay Managed Payments to your main bank account!
I'm also quite disappointed that soolin who is a "Board Guide" is just advising people to "just do it", with no regard or comment on the T&C's.
Yes I set up a new account with a bank I have an account with it was done in 5 mins very easy, all my eBay stuff is in one place and I can see it at a glance, It doesn't really matter what the T&C's are if you want to use it you have to agree to them. Funny thing is I am still buying stuff for eBay and paying with paypal.....

I have only seen the 'Trusty' thing on one of my several accounts, if you ignore it they make  two small deposits and you just confirm the amounts. Most accounts just went straight through, it may be chance, log out and back in again and it may just work.

I'm stuck in a eBay loop!
I've been a eBay user since 2003, have used the same Clydesdale bank account in all this time, via PayPal.
I've not sold a lot in past few years, just the occasional item these past couple of years, last week I listed an item just like I always have done - and it sold yesterday and the buyer payed instantly.

So I proceeded to set up eBay Managed Payments as requested (there was no notification when I created the listing) only to find that eBay will not approve the Clydesdale Bank (now renamed Virgin Money) with a red banner suggesting I use a different bank account, I don't have another current account and they won't pay in to a credit account.

I cancelled the order after being told the buyer will get a complete refund but it turns out the refund can't happen because I don't have a bank account linked to my account! I've had a couple of conversations with eBay help desk without a resolution, only they will send a note to their tech dep't,

How the hell do I resolve this? I can't send the item as I've cancelled the sale (buyer was informed prior to me cancelling), and I won't send the item when I don't know when I'll get an eBay payout.

I spent nearly an hour on ebay online chat last night trying to find out how I can remove my bank details so not be able to sell, but keep my account of 15 years, with all the subsequent 100% positive feedback, to buy with.  It took four advisers to tell me they didn't think this was possible, despite an article on ebay saying you can do it. Their only advice was to close the ebay account completely and open a new one.  The trouble now is you can't remove an automatic payment method without adding another one first, and the only option is your bank details or your credit card details INCLUDING your security code.  So I have cancelled the direct debit instruction in my online banking and notified ebay by email that I have done so.
I was what you might call a casual/occasional ebay seller.  I don't think they value that sort of member any more, so I will just have to find other ways to sell online.

People giving up selling on other forums and the community boards are just not updating to managed payments and leaving their accounts exactly as they are with no difficulty with buying. Ebay don't allow them to sell as they haven't upgraded, but they can still buy and most have just left their paypal details where they are as paypal is still accepted as a buyer.

Have you actually passed your 'upgrade to managed payments' deadline? If not just wait and see what happens about buying if you do, if you have then have they actually prevented you from buying on that account? If they have then that is strange and I wonder if it is a glitch.

Can you not just open another account if you go into a branch (If they have them) Or with another bank if they don't.

    I can, but I won't.
Once this mess is fixed I shall close my 18year, 100% feedback eBay account.

Thing was, I had changed to managed payments because I was in the middle of selling some stuff.  It seemed like I had no choice, but once I had a chance to think about it, I wanted out.
In my email to ebay I said I had cancelled the direct debit because I wanted to carry on buying but not selling.  Had a hilarious reply begging me to reconsider, as cancelling the DD would mean I wouldn't be able to sell any more, and expressing regret that this probably wasn't the answer I was hoping for. I replied pointing out that was exactly what I wanted to achieve, if they'd read my email properly, and left some very poor ratings when the feedback email came!

Assuming you have finished selling are you saying that your account has actually now been closed, the way the email  reads is that you can’t sell, it says nothing about buying?  Admittedly the threads on other forums were all from people who hadn’t actually switched across before they changed their mind , I think your situation is the only one where the decision was made after the sign up.

Ebay are still taking on more sellers day by day than they are losing , but they do sometimes send the standard ‘please reconsider and stay’ emails. I suppose it makes them feel like at least they tried.
