Tell me oh wise one then how you propose to cull a couple of billion people from the worlds population.Mickey666 said:
A typically stupid comment that prevents any sensible discussion about the problem of over-population. Well done.ToxicWomble said:Hmm kill of a couple of billion people so we can carry on driving petrol cars — radical but tempting.

World emissions is not the point in our governments action.headpin said:The UK cars produce approx. 0.16% of the worlds greenhouse gas emissions. And, bearing in mind the Chinese and Indian emissions are increasing year on year, then our percentage will become even smaller. So, once again the UK population pick up the tab for what is in effect a pointless exercise that will have little effect on the global total.
Looks good politically, but will be like !!!!!! in the Ocean, nobody will be able to see any difference.
Reducing pollution in towns and cities is the goal, so people aren't breathing in small particulates.Really? That's not what the government say."The UK has taken another historic step on the road to ending its contribution to climate change while boosting jobs in the process, as the Prime Minister, Transport Secretary and Business Secretary announced the end of the sale of new petrol and diesel cars in the UK by 2030."So world emissions is indeed the main goal, followed by jobs. Reducing pollution in towns and cities is in 3rd place at best.0 -
Or indeed petrol. Energy isn't created, simply converted to another form.Mickey666 said:
Exactly. Hydrogen is not a SOURCE of energy, only a means of transporting it. A bit like electricity in that respect.A._Badger said:
You do know it takes a lot of energy to produce hydrogen, I suppose?born_again said:
Sorry to spoil your day but EV "White Vans" & HGV's are already here.ToxicWomble said:What about all those “white” vans and HGVs
What are the stats for pollution caused proportionaly by these ?
Think I will just go buy a van
Failing that HGV's can run on hydrogen.

Fuel duty hasn't increased for the past 10 years. And fuel is cheaper now than it was five years ago.50Twuncle said:
But what price will petrol be ?wongataa said:ICE vehicles are not being banned There will still be vast numbers of second hand ICE vehicles available for purchase for many years after 2030. Also, by then electric cars will have dropped in price.
Your average driver is going to be priced off the roadsAt the moment - yes - but the price will ramp up - especially if, in 10 years, the goverment deems it to be evil to use !They will try to tax it out of existence..1 -

You’re the one who brought up culling. I didn’t mention it once.ToxicWomble said:

Can you really not think of any other way of reducing the global population? A few generations of couples only having one child would do wonders.
But I’m under no illusion that it will happen, mainly because of the sort of stupidity displayed in your first reply. People just don’t take the issue seriously. Have you seen the film ‘Idiocracy’?Or try reading a little about the issue: https://populationmatters.org/the-issue0 -
An average electric car consumes approximately 0.40 kWh/mile
So - with the average driver driving 15,000 miles per year - thats 6000 kWh per year per car/driver
If there are 40 million cars on the road in UK - Thats an extra 1,200,000 Mw of power needed - at the moment - the national grid produces 2,250 Tw - so this is an extra 50% on top of current production - which is a significant rise
The grid struggles as it is - so with an extra 50% - prepare for power cuts - or drive a lot less
Plus - this is just private cars - I dread to think of the amount that lorries/buses etc would consume !

Something like...?Deleted_User said:but if the government was serious they could easily start planning new estates to have chargers
https://www.gov.uk/government/consultations/electric-vehicle-chargepoints-in-residential-and-non-residential-buildings
Technically, as I said, they could plan the estates to have chargers, not a consultation which will likely sit in committee for years before the house builders and developers donate enough to a few MPs and it disappears just like how section 106 (the requirement to build social houses on new build sites) may be scrapped.

You can’t unplug a car when it’s charging without huge effort and serious damage. Given the we don’t see a slate of people levering open petrol caps and setting cars on fire today, I can’t see why people will go to similar effort to unplug electric cars in the future.
It depends on the charger and car, it is perfectly possible to unplug an electric
