This is a thread about never moving again but here I am. Is avoiding a chain the best way? Sell house, rent and then buy final house?
I don't know.  That comes with it's own stress. Moving house twice isn't fun.

You split the same risks between two transactions - two periods of nail biting instead of one.

What is a problem in the UK however is finding short term accommodation. There is hardly any.. I  googled my area last night and was surprised at how few properties there are. It's nuts. An obvious business opportunity, it made me think it is worth buying somewhere and setting it up for short term lets but I suspect it's the tenancy laws that prevent it.
Probably little available as it's not a viable market. As in effect it's little more than a holiday let.  One option is to let your own home on AirBnb while temporarily living elsewhere.

By short term I mean 3 to 6 months. I would be happy to sign up to 6 and wear a couple of months rent.
  • sorry to hear this ... I'm about to do it again after xmas... the stress is building already

Final move this time I think as it is number 17 or 18..I've lost count now .

Cosmetic re-furb on a bungalow ... next on the list .

Hope this ends for you soon
Good luck! It seems like only yesterday you were moving to your current place......

So stressed by my house move I had to take a sleeping pill last night just to fall asleep and not worry about everything.
Next time I move it will be in an urn ;)
After being awake since 3am this morning I bought some Nytol.

We've tried that, but still can't find that elusive short let - which leaves Airbnb which is so expensive, at least where we would need to let.  When we call EAs we get told that short lets are in high demand and so don't stay available for very long and there's a waiting list!

@Doozergirl - had a look at your Instagram page and wow, that's some project of yours!  It looks great and that bathroom is amazing.  Glad you get to spend Christmas in your lovely home :)

Thanks for the compliments guys, I feel very grateful for the new house.  It definitely takes the edge off that I'm not still staring at it out of the old windows during this dark, drizzly lockdown.  I've been waking at 5.30 instead of 4am since we moved 😂

Thanks for sharing your stories too.  I do hope that those of you also waiting get some respite soon.  🙏

Does anyone know how long it takes to get mortgage offers amended?

  • Varies between lenders, a lot of them seem to be swamped and taking 2+ weeks to do things (I know it's not what you want to hear).

I've set a few rules, if I do move:
    (1) never buy if there's a hint of some funky bug anywhere in the world,
    (2) buy before selling first property - made overpayments from the off;
    (3) somehow be a cash buyer - been saving since buying this one anyway.

My home does have everything I want and if I do get to the top of the allotment list, I will have even more outside space. I'm partly tempted to ask a few neighbours if they will sell me their (unused) gardens, but that could make my flat too land heavy if I sold; our gardens are a nice size.

Not what I want to hear, but at least it prepares me for further delay.

I had the most horrible dream last night where everything that could go wrong, did.  It seemed to go on forever, to the point that I am utterly exhausted this morning.

  • It's normal for dreams to reflect what's going on, can you have a nap to try and get through the day.
