This is a thread about never moving again but here I am. Is avoiding a chain the best way? Sell house, rent and then buy final house?
I don't know.  That comes with it's own stress. Moving house twice isn't fun.

You split the same risks between two transactions - two periods of nail biting instead of one.

Shame when people act like a'holes. Hopefully karma catches up with them along the line.  Enjoy your new home

So stressed by my house move I had to take a sleeping pill last night just to fall asleep and not worry about everything.
Next time I move it will be in an urn ;)

Never been in a chain so every move I have made has involved moving twice. People say it's a hassle but not really, it takes a couple of days to pack unpack and a few hours of phone calls to utilities. It does add cost.

What is a problem in the UK however is finding short term accommodation. There is hardly any.. I  googled my area last night and was surprised at how few properties there are. It's nuts. An obvious business opportunity, it made me think it is worth buying somewhere and setting it up for short term lets but I suspect it's the tenancy laws that prevent it.

Ah sorry to read this, can't believe people sometimes!  Best of luck in your new home and hope that the sale of your previous home is settled soon and you can get on with your life...!
  • We lost our buyer after they stalled for six weeks, feeding us lines about their mortgage. We are ready to exchange on our purchase. New buyer found, mortgage offer expires end of Jan. Never doing this again! Well until we find a three story house too much. I am beginning to understand why so many huge houses have older people in them. They just can't face the challenges of selling and buying anywhere more suitable!!!

IF this move happens it will be us staying put for at least 30years. If it falls through we will probably just stick where we are until all the children are gone. We need more space, but there are benefits of staying put.
