Nationwide mortgage process???

Hi All,

sat up worry at 4am on a Sunday morning does anyone have any experience with nationwide mortgage processes? We are first time buyers and have applied via mortgage broker for a nationwide mortgage, application was submitted on Friday 30th October and we paid an additional £275 to nationwide for a homebuyers survey. We received a test and email from nationwide at roughly 11pm on Saturday 31st October and then up until now haven't heard anything back. I spoke to our mortgage broker on 5th November about a different matter and she mentioned that the application had gone to the underwriter but this would be the case due to 90% mortgage. My partner and myself had a notification on Thursday that a hard credit check had been carried out on our file via clear score this looks to have been done on the 11th November, then this evening my partner has noticed the £275 we paid to nationwide for the homebuyers survey has been refunded into his bank account, this looks to have been processed on Friday 13th and will clear on Monday 16th. We haven't received an email or text from nationwide advising anything, I'm unable to log in and check as done via mortgage broke and not able to get in touch with them until Monday! Does anyone have any experience with this, I'm assuming the worst that the application has been declined and they have refunded this as perhaps the home buyer surveys aren't taking place until all documents and credit search is approved and verified but I literally have no idea. Any advice would be appreciated.

We applied for our mortgage with Nationwide , the DIP went to a refer initially on the 14th October and then was approved on the 16th so that's when the full application was made. We also have paid for the homebuyers survey through them - which I did by ringing on the 21st and paying over the phone. Then the survey was booked on the 27th October for the 18th November. We've had our hard check on the credit report (late October I think) .

As we've done the same as you and it's all gone through our broker we can't check for any updates either, we don't even get texts from Nationwide. Our MA is available everyday to us though and we message him through WhatsApp which is very helpful and puts my nerves at ease at times as we're FTBs and haven't really a clue what we're expecting half the time.

I guess all you can do as it's Sunday is ring first thing Monday but you'd have thought if they were declining you , that they'd sent that update to you first.

There is also a thread under 'mortgages and endowments' that is all about Nationwide mortgages , if you post in there you're likely to get more replies from people who have been through it maybe. Good luck 🤞

It's so stressful we are only on working day 10 but the refund of the homebuyers payment has put me on edge, especially seeing others have been booked and looks like a considerable wait time for some! Yes that's exactly what I was thinking, however wondering how nationwide would tell you an application was declined would they text / email or just tell your MA?

Hope you're application goes okay - all the best with it!

Thankyou! I have been reading it since about 5am this morning nearly finished the whole thread 😩 (not sure whether this shows how keen or desperate I am!) have put a comment in there, hopefully someone has a similar experience!  Thank-you 🙂

I don't know how they'd tell you as we've had no contact from Nationwide at all but I would think they would do one or the other ... Is your MA a big company or have a lot of other work on, is it possible they've been told and not passed it back to you?

Maybe if you can think of any reason you might get declined you could start working on evidence to contradict it or address it and then when you get your answer on Monday you'd be more prepared.

Hopefully it's just an error on their part and doesn't mean anything. I'll keep my fingers crossed for you 🤞

So we've spoken directly to nationwide and they have advised an incorrect address has been entered by the MA on the application so has now been cancelled, hence the monies being refunded. The address the MA has put in for the property we are buying is incorrect! They have used the address of a property we originally looked at but our offer wasn't excepted. Im absolutely mortified and not sure what to do!

That's poor on your mortgage advisors front , I'd be annoyed as you rightly probably are too!

I think your only option is to wait till tomorrow and ring your MA and see what they can do to set this straight... It's incredibly frustrating for you and hopefully if you're paying your MA they'll reimburse you something or take responsibility.

The positive I suppose is that it's nothing you've done wrong or that there's an issue with your credit. Hopefully you can reapply immediately tomorrow , pay the home buyers again and you won't have lost too much time. How's the other parts of the buying going ? Is this all you're waiting for or are you still waiting for searches , enquiries , etc ?

I know I'm just very confused as to how it's happened, feel as though we have had a few niggles with MA but nothing major, though have been pushy in us taking their recommendation for home and life insurance. Fingers crossed Natiowide don't send us to the back of the underwrite queue if they had already done a bit of the leg work!

We are still quite fresh to it We have already instructed solicitor to carry out the search fees - they are around a 6 week wait where we live and didnt want to waste too much time for these. Other than that everything hopefully will go smoothly we are FTB so no chain and the seller also has no chain, we have hit it great as they are leaving all furnishings for us too which is a massive help being FTB and takes more pressure off.

    hows things going for you?

Does just all seem very odd..

We instructed the solitors on the 16th October I think ish but the searches only started last week so there was a delay there. That was mainly from them waiting for the contract pack from the sellers solicitors for three weeks ... But all moving again now. Our seller has no chain and us like you are FTB s so nothing below us either. Our seller is keen to move asap so hopefully things will move as fast as we can push them !

That's a massive help being left things, we've been pricing up furniture and appliances and it's all so expensive!!
Which area are you buying in?
