Which Service Station operator is it? Moto, Roadchef, Welcome Break?
If you definitely stayed in their on-site hotel you don't owe them anything!! All the above MSAs have a policy to take the the car reg. on arrival at the hotel and put it on their system so the parking overnight is free. Have you got a copy of your receipt from that night? If not ask for it from the hotel chain involved (I'm guessing Travelodge or Days Inn?) and present it to the MSA operator with a strongly worded complaint and they should cancel the PCN for you, even if it is already at county court claim level. I have had several PCNs cancelled for this reason including one already at county court level (claim was discontinued).
They are trying to get money when you haven't even breached their alleged contract. It is either gross incompetence by the PPCs or something even worse.........

hi woodpecker, without doubt it would of been Travellodge at MOTO, I always put the registration into their machine. With it being 5 years ago though I don't have a receipt. Is it really feasible that if I email travellodge, they will be able to check their records in 2015 and confirm I stayed there if I provide ID or something?

as posted elsewhere
ok if you read that page the person emailed moto CEO , and it was cancelled , will that help cp plus is now groupnexus
I emailed the CEO of Moto as suggested in other threads on this forum and it worked. Ken McMeikan (Ken.McMeikan@moto-way.co.uk) got back the same evening I emailed him, at around 2230 hours and agreed to cancel the PCN.
I'd also sent the same message in via the feedback form on their website and they did also get back to me from there several days later and agree to cancel it. As I said in my first post, I did try contacting MOTO several months ago via to ask for this and was turned away so something has obviously changed - possibly my approach.

With it being 5 years ago though I don't have a receipt. How about a credit card or bank statement, if you paid by either method, you might be able to obtain from the relevant financial institution - just an idea for you? Please note, we are not a legal advice forum. I personally don't get involved in critiquing court case Defences/Witness Statements, so unable to help on that front. Please don't ask. .

I suspect if you contact moto , they will go "not again" every time the CEO has to waste time sorting those cases he is annoyed , in the past , just the odd case per week , now he is getting hords of them and must be questioning groupnexus and there solisitors and the damage they are causing moto , you know the date , time you arrived , time you left (approx) and its hardly likely that you were sleeping in your carpmorphy said:hi woodpecker, without doubt it would of been Travellodge at MOTO, I always put the registration into their machine. blackdog when you emailed the CEO was it already at the court claim stage? If so I will try an email Ken and maybe copy in the moto head office to explain the situation. Meanwhile I'll email travelodge to see if they have a process for me to confirm I was there. As for a credit card record, I still have the card that would of been used, but my online statements don't go that far back, and if I get them to dig one out for me, it will just show the booking transaction paid a few weeks in advance, and not really prove what day it was for I don't think.1

Thanks, i'll still dig it out, I suppose it will add some merit and at least confirm I was staying at the hotel in that location within the timeframe if nothing else.

One thing is certain...
If you don't ask them to provide that proof, you definitely will not get that proof from them.

Yep, ask the hotel, and start that process
yOu are on a ticking clock, so wasting time by asking "should i ask the only company that can confirm I stayed there?" isnt a good thing for you to do. Of course you ask them! What harm can it possibly do?2
