  • Thanks madjohn. I just got a pair of tickets for TOBG in Greenwich Odeon on 3/3
  • Went to see Be Kind Rewind in Cardiff and thought it was terrible i was sitting there thinking is it nearly over all the way through it, mind you i can say that this was the only film out of all the free screenings lately that i can say that about. I have been to see Dan in Real life which i enjoyed, There will be Blood, Definitely Maybe, Lions to Lambs and none of them have been as unwatchable as be Kind Rewind.Never mind i suppose you are bound to get a few doozers in with the great films.

I am so glad to see that I am not the only one who thought that Be Kind Rewind was a complete dud! To be honest, the moment Jack Black electrocuted himself which did NOT kill him but made him magnetic, I thought WHAT?

Anyway, I have a bit of begging to do. If anyone receives tickets for The Edge of Heaven next Thursday from Time Out and can't or doesn't want to go, PLEASE throw them my way! It would be very much appreciated. I can offer two tickets for The Other Boleyn Girl at Whiteleys for 3 March in exchange (but I am also just giving them away if anyone's interested). They still have the old date of 26 Feb on them but they are valid for the new date screening.

I know everyone's got a different opinion but Be Kind Rewind had more heart, humour and invention than over 90% of other films released. It wasn't Michel Gondry's best film, but even his minor works far outdo most other people's best efforts.

    A definite 8/10.

And for those doubters - how could you not like the inspired camoflage boiler suits gag?
  • Be Kind Rewind. I liked the remake bits and the camouflage bit. Didn't particularly enjoy the rest though.
  • Could someone tell me how I join the club?

I agree- and I also had 3 11 year old boys with me and even though I know things like that sometimes happen in movies I thought it was an irresponsible scene, particularly as Jack Black has such an appeal to younger teens, as do electricity sub stations.
I know there are loads of dangerous stunts in films that people could never survive so my argument is probably invalid, but it was such a realistic looking substation...
Also I loved the camouflage but maybe it was too whimsical for me. I see the critics on rottentomatoes are divided over whther they got away with the film or not- I'll be interested to see what Kermode thinks on Simon Mayo's programme.
Nonetheless I felt much happier coming out because I hadn't paid £20 to see it...

I really enjoyed Be Kind Rewind - but I think it helps knowing what kind of films Michel Gondry makes (The Science of sleep, Eternal Sunshine of a spotless mind) so you know what you're in for. I give it an 8/10.
