I wish they were strawberries, YBE
That's a long time to wait for your blood appointment, but I suppose it's par for the course these days. When does Cissie arrive??
Dusty, I'll investigate that weedkiller, thanks.
Funny you should say Geum, Less, because that's what crossed my mind too. It's similar looking to my Koi Geum (which has flower buds on now yaay).
I'll google the wood avens, taff. Quite a few have popped up, so I hope they're as easy to get out as twopenny's. I think I might have seen your roof tiles border on another thread?? Looks really good.
We had an AMAZING sunset last night - it looked like the sky was on fire...

Are Herb Bennett, Wood Avens and Geum all the same 'family'?? I googled Wood Avens and they all popped up as images, so I'm more confused than ever now
Btw, I'd never heard of the term ockham's razor, so googled that, expecting it to be a plant'A watched potato will never chit'...5 -
They're all in the geum family pp. Easy to remove when young and the tap root hasn't gone down far. Lovely sunset!"There is no such thing as a low-energy rich country." Dr Chris Martenson. Peak Prosperity3

Not raining is about all that can be said about this morning. It did come over very black but seems to be back to sunny spells as forecast.Very soggy out in the garden though, I'm still hoping for it to get dry enough to trot out and do my potting on, trim the tomatoes, check the beans etc.twopenny said:Indeed it has been Dusty. Couldn't stand to cook my dinner, wash up, iron etc at one point. Had to give up dancing, tennis, walking even and 2hrs a morning in bed. Getting breakfast to take back was dreadful. But in the last few months I'm pain free in the morning and can now walk 2.5miles on the flat, alone. Working up slowly.I used to do walking, swimming and dancing or table tennis in the one day only last year. But slowly I'm getting back and pain free. Have 50% more movementSo here's a blast from the past! These purple poppies were planted by neighbours daughter in their garden when she was about 12.They seemed to stick around in my last garden. Seems they survived the move somehow, somewhere and are appearing in the most unlikely places in this new garden.I've decided if they want to be with me so much I'll keep them. They do no harm
Love those purple poppies, are they so-called Opium poppies, but the common ones?PP, what a cracking sunset, just needed the Space Station to have been passing over to make it perfect.Eight out of ten owners who expressed a preference said their cats preferred other peoples gardens5 -
Wow that's amazing Poppy!I remember being at my friends in Scotland and the sunsets just kept changing and filling the sky.Bluey, yes, I should give up the cigs now. It's causing me problems and the priceYou should have seen the specialist doc's face when he asked how long I'd been smoking.
50yrs. It as much as said, well if you've been ok so far, carry on.
But coffee, good coffee, is one of lifes essentials. That's never going to go.Had a chuckle at the fat pigeon today. I've moved some rings on the feeder and he tried the fat balls but they kept moving away and walloping him on the beak.Couldn't reach the seeds but tried to balance on the swinging tray and it really wasn;t worth the effort.I'm going to get this somehowI give up!It must be terrible to be right by some food and not be able to eat it.......I can rise and shine - just not at the same time!

Apologies for confusion - HB and Wood Avens are the same thing, Geum urbanum - but a Geum that's not normally cultivated deliberately (tor so I thought until I spotted it on the RHS website!)... So, now you say you have a cultivated Geum it's possible these are seedlings of that, so maybe worth waiting a while before hoicking it out! (or you could cut it off at the roots with Ockham's razor)

Cissie has a mid-morning flight so we'll be back about this time on Monday pp, and then the haranguing will commence!
Jeez that's what you call a sunset, it's amazing
Rottery Acres will have to be somewhere up there I think.
Did you get tootling about your garden Farway? What you potting on...?
It's nice when you get a doc with a bit of sense/life experience behind them eh 2p. I remember our one telling daddy not to give up smoking cos the shock would likely kill him. He had smoked for decades but hadn't a mark on him.Cut it off at the roots with Ockham’s razor Less
Anyway I only popped on looking for JackieO’s cookbook thing (can’t find it grrr), and to say sorry Farway, I’ll not be giving tickles to his Holeyness cos look at the state of him 😳Lovely Neighbour is getting him to the vets in a couple of days. Poor wee soul, there’s always something.I removed the shell from my racing snail, but now it's more sluggish than ever.8 -
Aw no, do you know what's happened to him, YBE??
That Ockham's razor quip made me laugh, LessI don't think my Geum would be responsible for any seedlings, it was pretty much dead until I repotted it a couple of months ago and the stuff that's growing is quite prolific. Funny that I don't remember it last year though...
Funny pigeon antics, twopenny'A watched potato will never chit'...5 -
AH, didn't know wood avens was the same as Herb Bennet. See, I learn somthing every day
An the occams razor thing was funny ;0
That's some sunset there too, is it doubly double delight in that case? YBE, glad you're going to get proper henning but I did laugh at the omg! I've got to do this and that and this and that because otherwise she'll notice! Poor thing, hopefully something that can be easily sorted. The spit insects are those little things that hop around, hang on, must google - froghoppersI did like the area of the sunny sitooterie, but I also thought, those thin legs of the chairs in that gravel is asking for trouble..I'd be off them in no time.I did eventually get round to planting out last night about nine, wearing OHs old railways jacket, to which a friendly neighbour quipped she couldn't see me against our front door [ it's bright orange, so's the jacket...] so that's a goodly number of pots down that I don't have to stress about keeping alive, they have their chance now so they'd better take it.I did see a mug today on one of those fb things which said 'Just a girl, standing in front of her plants, asking them not to die..I think we all need one of those. And another neighbour came round [ he who gave me a hotbin] and we have arranged a plant swap for some geums and verbena longname [me] and crocosmia [him] - I did try that once in the garden, it died.Good luck with the house hunting 2P, maybe you'll get a bigger gardenNon me fac calcitrare tuum culi7
