Awful weather - typical Brits talk

Mixed weather first thing, so far had sun & torrential rain plus still windyGood news on garden front, the Hurst Green Shaft own seed peas have sprouted already in their damp tissue blanket, think I'll pot them up tomorrowPlus one batch of beetroot "Perfect 3" are poking through, fingers crossed the rest will be along soonI may sow another batch of radish in modules for succession as wellHope your car is just some minor thing Dave, but doesn't sound too promising does it? Is there another car available for urgent tasks? My shares are very mixed bag but selling for me means the cash would only go into some useless savings account so I'm sticking with the dividends at the moment, not sure who said it but a loss on shares is only a loss when you cash them in, meanwhile the divis keep on comingEight out of ten owners who expressed a preference said their cats preferred other peoples gardens1

Hi all btw 👋
Looking better today but quite icy at 07.00 and not due to rise above 4C today, here.2 -
I'm feeling guilty that I'm not getting seeds planted but honestly with them being outside they would be blown away or washed out.Heard that a neighbour lost all her seedlings that were firmly in plugs. They'd just been lifted by wind and excessive water and plastered all over the garden.I have looked and planned a lot though and tied up tighter the huge wallflower I transplanted before this lot came. It's not looking happy.

Looks like it tipped down overnight judging by the puddles, and still very windy with sun poking outShould be "interesting" display in your neighbour's garden 2P from the wayward seedlingsI continued with sowing & started my last begonia corm off, had to clear the old pot out, full of vine weevil grubs.Sowed more radishes in cells, pink ones supposedly and today I'll start seriously browsing my tomato packets to decide what additional ones to grow this year apart from Bloody Butcher & Balcony YellowAnd pot up the half dozen germinated on damp paper Hurst Green Shaft peasEight out of ten owners who expressed a preference said their cats preferred other peoples gardens1

Another icy night last night here - cars were covered in a sheet of ice by 9pm last night and everything was still frozen solid at 07.00 this morning. Nice sunny day now, but the frost is still there in the shady spots at 10.00 am.
I'm beginning to regret the tidying and pruning that I have done over the last couple of days as this freeze-thaw cycle won't be good for newly exposed shoots and cut-ends.1 -
Apparently I ordered 6 bare root trees for the hedge, and two clematis a while ago. Which turned up during the week and I have just unpacked. It's a bit windy for planting them today. Plus I need to decide where they should go.
Some of my seedlings in the greenhouse have turned up their toes, but others are doing OK, so I may pot some up over the next few days and sow another round of beans and tomatoes to replace the ones that didn't make it. At some point I need to make space outside to move them into - and rabbit-proof it.1 -
Intermittent rain, sunshine, hail and wind here. Standing in the stream and planting lost its appeal after an hour or so!The car had been fixed, but no one thought to tell me. The turbo intercooler was corroded and a piece of it blew out, puncturing the turbo hose. Easy fix, but parts expensive.2

Still blasting winds, rain, hail coming down with a force to be reckoned with and cold.Went out for a while but it's not possible to get out of anywhere. Supposed to have stopped now but there are more black clouds coming over.Having to make do with the promise of my lilac buds swelling with green and a hint of flower because everything else has stopped like me.I like the idea of clematis coming unexpectedly.I too am concerned by the plants I've moved. Dried by the move and now the winds. Also cut the standard lavenders quite severely because of them being buffeted by the strong winds. They don't look happy at the moment but the fruit trees I pruned seem ok with it. They had time to heal before this latest lot of rubbish weather.

Walked to my vaccination centre this morning in blustery wind, freezing horizontal rain and general discouraging nastiness.
I had a good nosy at everyone's front gardens on the way there and back and passed my favourite spring garden which is a churchyard by the Martyr's Memorial. The chionodoxa and forsythia there were looking lovely and the narcissi are just at the point of flowering, some of the bluebell leaves are visible among the overgrown grass too.
Lots of the places I passed had obviously been doing tidying up and general titivating of their fronts and I saw a lot of early blossom at all heights with a great deal of variety of colour, shape etc. If you're a hungry nectar feeder central Oxford is the place to be right now."She could squeeze a nickel until the buffalo pooped."
