Awful weather - typical Brits talk

I didn't make the final choice, Farway, just pointed DB in the right direction. Pears don't do particularly well here, though we have a few trees.I'm not worried about the stream; it's far from the house and about way below it. I'd be quite glad if it comes up and washes all the small stuff I missed down to my neighbour!
Right now, it's more wind than wet, though.
Getting my crown fitted today; the only sort I'll ever wear now that playing Queen Victoria, as in my avatar, is no longer an option.0 -
Yes it wore me out too. Especially at the start of the season.
Just wet, not overly windy and quite mild so better than expected. The fruit buds have swollen overnight and the flock of great tits is back along with the black birds. I've got a bird in my new tree
Today's tasks are to finish cleaning the mower and tools and sharpening them. A relaxing occupation after yesterday though I think the mower blade is beyond repair.I can rise and shine - just not at the same time!

Absolutely back in the depths of bleak midwinter here today, I opened the curtains to grey skies, soughing wind and rain lashing against the windowpanes and then it got worse! The only birds I've seen today have been blown hither and yon by the gusts.
Can anyone recommend any shares that offer a discount on vests as an ownership perk? I feel something like that would be a useful home for some small savings."She could squeeze a nickel until the buffalo pooped."

It hit the dizzy heights of 14c here yesterday. It was windy, but nothing on how it's been overnight. Not a lot of rain either. After the dentist, I went on a mission to the big city to sort out roofing materials for some elderly people who need planning permission before they have an urgent job done. It's a fine art working out what might be deemed acceptable and easy to spend double for no material benefit. A little advice would be a fine thing, but.....No gardening done.GF, thermals? Whatever happened to Damart?????EDIT: Apparently they still exist. Thermolactyl didn't go the way of the pterodactyl after all!2

Very windy overnight, heard it howling even through my DG windows. It's eased now & sun's out in fact it was quite pleasant when i went for some milk earlierToday's garden news is my amaryllis is sprouting again, I let id dry off overwinter & started watering again last week.I'll try and add some weak tom fertiliser in the next watering now it's under wayUpdate on my slow release fertiliser order, on it's way.It only has to come from Reading but no doubt in the world of logistics it will have to go via Antwerp & Milton KeynesI have to make holes in the base of a zillion large yoghurt pots, MSE flower pots this year, I'll try first off using my new mini drill but may finish up with a soldering ironA job for a dull day in the conservatoryEight out of ten owners who expressed a preference said their cats preferred other peoples gardens1

It was so warm last night that I had to take the winter quilt off!The wind was ferocious. Had to get out of bet to retreive aplastic flower pot clattering down the road. I bunged the daffs back in it and tucked it away. All my little plants waiting for a home were blown across my newly swept path trailing wet black compost. To be dealt with when this stops.Haven't done anything else in the garden today. Belting wind, rain, hail. Oh, I did go round spot killing the broadleaved weeds in the lawn. That will have been washed away so another repeat job.The plus side is that so far the two standard lavenders, my new tree, all big plant pots are still in one piece. So must be grateful. My illuminating solar fairy that was on top of the fence to entertain a little boy who wakes up unhappy in the house opposite, went for a fly it seems. Just seen it blinking unhappily in the back of the border.Put nails in the garage walls and cleaned and hung more tools, sorted out the bits of netting to be ditched or keep. I'm sure I'll appreciate it when the weather improves and we're out of lockdown but right now tidying the garage is not giving me a buzz.

Not much gardening done here, unless I count buying some membrane to grow a new hedge through. I looked at the stream, but there had been no tsunami to wash it cleaner.Returning from my foray to the city trading estate yesterday, a sudden minor explosion occurred in the car's engine department about a mile from home and it immediately began making expensive-sounding noises. I coaxed it home, but this morning it refused to run, so it was towed off by the garage guys at lunchtime. Not a word since. It's probably very bad news.1

Another day of foul weather here, I was at the furthest point from home during my afternoon walk when it began to hail so I arrived home sodden and chilled to the bone.
DS thankyou for reminding me of Damart, I'd forgotten all about them since they stopped sending out those catalogues that used to fall out of the Radio Times. I'm going to investigate further on the topic of shareholder's perks because discounts on something I was going to buy anyway might add up to a better deal overall than the derisory interest on my savings accounts."She could squeeze a nickel until the buffalo pooped."

Shares can be a scary ride, G. Some of ours lost £4 each a few years ago, and although they've gained well over £4 in the past year, I'll be inclined to sell them, as I think we're living in Fairyland now on the fruits of the Magic Money Tree. Perhaps pounds in the bank ought to be converted into something more concrete, though concrete underwear doesn't strike me as too practical or attractive!I spoke too soon; the stream that was just trickling yesterday is a chocolate sauce torrent this morning, so we've had much rain in the night. They've been ploughing all week, so that's why it's so mucky. The roads around are equally disgusting.
Looks like a brief sunny interlude this afternoon followed by more wind and rain overnight. Not a day for digging or sieving soil then.
A lady who's lived in the village for many years phoned during the week and told me that she'd finally started to landscape her garden properly. "Our soil is ever so stony!" she exclaimed. I wondered if she'd ever cast an eye over the fields here at this time of year, but I said, "Oh, that's bad luck then!"1 -
