Davesnave said:Apodemus said:Yesterday was too nice a day here to spend working in the garden, so I was off for a long walk instead!I'd love a long walk, but the garden has to take precedence and DB would think it very bad form if I went off walking when there's so much to do.
My walking friend has also stipulated "no wellies," which might not be feasible yet and they only have trainers otherwise.
My walk yesterday was actually in wellies, but I really didn't need them and although the ground is still pretty waterlogged where I was, the forest tracks are now dry and trainers would have been a much better option!1 -
Dull start to the day but nothing planned for the garden today except add a light dusting of slug pellets to protect a newly emerging tree lily at the front, may as well get growing to provide a landing area for the Lily Beetles which are no doubt sharpening their mandibles and putting on beetle lipstick for mating ritual somewhereEight out of ten owners who expressed a preference said their cats preferred other peoples gardens2

Yes that's the jobbie. Looked it up and it now comes in multiple colours if you pay enough. Must get some in the badger run so I have cut flowers for august. Fortunate reminder. It clouded over here and went really cold so I spent the day looking for bricks and pavers to make steps and extend the front patio. Also another tree heather as I'm enamoured with the one I bought and they are sold out apart from small ones.I didn't get the bird table finished. Plumber, landscaper (numpty) looking for the hard landscaping. So many jobs to do because I'm fed up with people who try to tell me how difficult/time consuming these jobs are. So this coming month I need to knuckle down.I'd rather be building the flower beds though.

Uninspiring weather out, bright but cloudy IYSWIM.Nothing planned garden wise today, apart from urging my seeds to get their heads above ground, the backward beetroot & sweetcorn are starting to irk me, the sweetcorn I can understand if it fails because the seeds are over six years old [2014] & it was a gamble, beetroot was fresh packetOn a brighter note my peas are now showing green tops in their pots, I found another seed last night, trod on it getting ready for bed
, must've fell out of my pocket, it's not quite in the Lego brick pain but worth a low curse
I'll sow that one todayEight out of ten owners who expressed a preference said their cats preferred other peoples gardens1 -
T'was lovely outside yesterday and looks pretty good too today so far. Bit of frost early, but not enough to do harm.Yesterday I shifted a fairly huge quantity of stones to make way for planting yews and then found another dumpy bag of hedge clearings for the imminent bonfire. Today I'll finish the stones and then see how lively I feel!My peas are only just showing in their pots Farway. Seem to have taken ages.1

Farway, sorry to hear that you are not sharing in the glorious weather that we are getting here: 12C, sunny and clear sky at the moment!
The last couple of days have encouraged a bit of growth in the garden and it is nearing that time when you can see what has not survived the winter. Fortunately, I think my unprotected bay tree will make it - its looking a bit brown in patches but largely still green. I have a rosemary planted in an old wall that is looking a bit poorly, but again I think it will make it, as will the thyme and sage that are growing beside it. However the rocket that I also had in the wall doesn't look promising at the moment, although there may yet be a deep tap root that will allow it to make a comeback. Too early to tell if my astrantia, echinacea and rudbeckia have made it - they should be so easy to grow, but I've struggled for years to get any of these to establish here. There is a leaf showing through the ground where the astrantia should be, so fingers crossed (although the emerging leaf looks suspiciously similar to ground elder at the moment!)

Beautiful sun disappeared by the time I was dressed but bright with a very cold wind.Got to painting the gate and fence today. They were last lockdown green because that's what I had in the garage and it was a meah colour, better than the orange stain. Now they are cream that shows off the standard lavenders, new trellis arbour supporting an old species climbing rose. It's a shame not to have a colour but the cream lightens the area like you wouldn't believe and shows off the flowers and leaves to effect which was the idea.Sawed the rotten feet off the bird table, maybe fixed the roof and it's out to dry. See if I can salvage it for another year or two until I can get another when things are more normal.Had a bit of a fight with local traders about mower blades and paint. Blades they can't find on the net (I did first go) paint can only do in double + the size I want plants they haven't stocked a second time around. Exasperating! So online purchases it will be.Longing to get on with more planting and moving because it must be done very soon. Could do with at least 3 of me.

Sun's out and more Spring.A few doors down has magnolia buds bursting, and over the road is a pink cherry also in blossom, a couple more days like today should do it properlyYour garden sounds nice now 2P, lol at "lock down green", suits it I'm sure.Local traders can be a curse at times, in these times you'd think they would be doing everything possible to retain custom instead of driving folks to the internet never to returnQuick check shows some nasturtiums have germinated, just poking up now, plus I watched more You Tube on fig cuttings, seems they root readily in water, so I've now got some on the window sill in a jar, not that I need more figs but I'm sure if they root I'll find takers for themAnd Gardeners' World is back tonightEight out of ten owners who expressed a preference said their cats preferred other peoples gardens1

"Fig cuttings root in water"
Right, I feel a bout of daily exercise coming on round local gardens and hedges
Farway the cream is too yellow but can't get a litre of white to change it. So another lockdown temporary fix.
The plant I wanted is available at a garden centre 25 miles away. Perhaps I'll ring, see if they'll save me one ready for when we can travel again.I can rise and shine - just not at the same time!

I don't usually post pics on here but thought these might brighten someone's day. It's now largely clouded here.
The bulbs were given by a friend who had too many, so I've not had much to do with their success. The question is whether I can grow them on over the summer? If you've have not made a mistake, you've made nothing7
