Really nice out there again today, but I've doing penance, digging out some huge shrubs DB planted about 7 years ago and now dislikes. :| It's been slow going, even with a mattock. My shoulders were still aching from yesterday's ridiculous antics on the stream bank, but I decided to get on with it rather than have a nasty task hanging over me. Just a tree peony to go now.....Yes, kept the best till last! :D

My neighbours ground clearers cut my tree peony to the ground despite me paint marking where our boundaries met and standing over it a great deal o fthe time. It was only a year old. The revenge for her removing all the trees and bushes the birds like was that she now has cats climbing into her garden to get at her 'house' cats. I tried not to smile when she told me.........
Wonderful weather. The woodlands have a pink haze over them meaning the buds are forming. Still lots of lambs tails on the trees.
Bought some cheap but good annual flower seeds today. Saw a TV programme that said why not plant them in the veg garden between slow growing veg for a bit of colour so thought I'd try it.

A sunny weekend ahead according to the pundits, started well here, bit of overnight frost but vanishing rapidly
Yesterday I managed to get a small trough into the conservatory and topped it up with compost, left overnight to get to ambient & I'll sow the beetroot in it once the sun moves round & brings the temperature up to human comfort levels
I did pot up my tow large begonia tubers which are just showing a spot of bud growth, they should romp away now, duly checked for vine weevils before potting on

I have tree peony envy, another plant I've always wanted but never had space for

Freezing morning with icy cloud way down into town. Spent it working with the window fixer on the northern side of the house.
Sun out this afternoon but I'm happy to toast my toes on it as it hits the sofa. Only just warmed though from the chill this morning. Sometimes you just have to go with the flow.

  • What a lovely few days here, sunny and very warm after chilly starts ...... having developed into a fair-weather gardener this is the weather i love 😋😁

I did a bit of pottering about, tidying, pruning and a bit of sitting with a coffee interspersed 😋 listening to neighbours cutting their grass and creating that gorgeous smell that wafts around in the warm sunshine 🌞

Wall to wall sunshine continues here. :) The tree peony is no more, but I have kept some rooted bits to play with.
No other news I can share, so here is a picture of the oak we must take down soon. Such a shame, but we didn't plant it over the pipe entrance to the septic tank and it's done well to survive as long as we've dared to leave it!

I was hoping that grass-cutting could legitimately be put off for a bit longer while I get to grips with the weeds!

Wall to wall dull & mist here at the moment with sun promised later
Managed to sow the beetroot yesterday in a trough, being larger seeds I spaced them individually this time, normally I scatter & thin later but decided to play safe this year, like th radishes
I also cleared the last buddlia & blackberry pruning plus tied in the wayward Merton Thornless, starting to look tidy now
It was glorious sunshine and the celandine are popping open, always a sign, here's one of them under an apple tree

Celandines are out here too, and along with the primroses they cheer things up down by the stream.
A warm afternoon helped Dearly Beloved and I sort out the awkward  positioning of the trellis panels I whacked up quickly a few weeks ago. I hate fiddly jobs like that., but it's behind me now. o:)
Things are starting to germinate in the poly and propagator. I was pleased to find one of the 3 Lunaria rediviva (perennial honesty) seeds I rescued from a local garden back in the autumn is up and about. ;)

A cold start but the sunshine was glorious this afternoon. Even took a layer off!
Still painting the wrought iron gate and frame. If I didn't have it already, if it wasn't lockdown I'd have sold it! Beautiful though it is it's the very divel to paint.
Even had time to do some gardening. Dug a corner for the English lavender I bought from my last garden. Bit of a scare as beside the garage wall and I found rotten concrete, chippings and what seemed to be pipe. I had visions of finding something I shouldn't but it seems to be only the builders chucking away their left overs so I scraped it out, chucked some compost and grit and my beloved lavender. It looks exactly right there.
Even got time to clear the strawberry patch. Ahhhh dreams of sweet strawberries warm with sun :)
