Awful weather - typical Brits talk

Don't say that please Poppy... I'm all packed, all clean and showered, the thermostat is ducked to the temp it's going to be while I'm away, and I'm heading to bed now for an early start tomorrow. Just need to grab my snacks and check the cats are fed and the key is still in the key place for the neighbour before I walk out the door. No storms/trees falling/flooding/strikes please for the next few days. Much appreciated, thank you very much
Not sure how much I'm going to be able to get online so I hope everyone is and stays well for the next week.
I'm not an early bird or a night owl; I’m some form of permanently exhausted pigeon.7 -
Don't worry about the weather Arb, they're just predicting another one cos they can't believe they got the last one right. There'll be no storm, you'll be fine. All is well and all manner of things shall be well
Strikes are a separate beast mind....
Bon voyage!
So is that you back on an even keel for a while then Farway?
How's your broken bum 2p? Was the physio good and helpful?
Windy overnight here but slightly less so than the other night. Rain forecast for mid aft, and getting warmer the whole day through. It's 5' out there now, it'll be 13' by bedtime. Possibly. The rain they kept giving yesterday never arrived (the shock) so hopefully they're wrong about today too :fingerscrossed:
I removed the shell from my racing snail, but now it's more sluggish than ever.5 -
Rain here, supposed to be the next storm but all we have is drizzle and breezy, I believe it's bad oop North though. Hope your travel is not badly affected ARbsYoungBlueEyes said:om the house

I've also got a now free-range, blowing in the wind, Merton Thornless blackberry, securing tie broken I guess.
Better news, my subsidised Cherry tree for the volunteer patch is ordered via Council and due to collect Feb 24th.It's a two-year bare root but comes with a securing stake. Variety TBD on the day, Colt rootstock. £12Couldn't resist, ordered an apple at the same time, M26 rootstock, again variety TBD but all eatersChecking up on Colt roots, seems I can train the tree by bending over the branches, which is just what I've done with my plum, so I know that works. Should give a nice ornamental lollipop shaped weeping type of blossom tree in the volunteer patch.Mixed feelings about council subsided fruit trees & hedges when the same council is cutting back services like Day Centres, special needs transport etc, but that's a subject for elsewhere.Eight out of ten owners who expressed a preference said their cats preferred other peoples gardens5 -
Have a fab time in London, AR. Don't worry about Storm Jocelyn, I think Scotland are bearing the brunt of it. It's already heavy rain and windy, but due to get REALLY windy and rainy this afternoon, just as I'm setting off for work
Your cherry tree sounds like it's going to be lovely, Farway. I really fancy trying espalier fruit trees on a bare wall that I think would be perfect, but we have covenants in place telling us what we can and can't do (mostly can't grr) and I don't think I would be allowed. Tbh, I don't know if I want to stay in this house long-term anyway, so maybe something to consider for my next abode...'A watched potato will never chit'...4 -

Or you could be like our barn-dwelling neighbours, and simply ignore agreements to play fast and loose! That's not worked too well for them, though!
Speaking of fruit trees on walls, have any of you seen the fruit gardens at The Newt? Lots of fancy shapes and the stone weighting Farway referred to:BiL has had much to do with the building work at The Newt. Mrs Dusty and I remember it in another guise as a slightly chaotic, rambling, place, full of plantaholic delights, but we just smile and say nowt!I wouldn't say the wind is insignificant here, or that the visibility is 'very good' as the drunks claim, but the most impressive thing about today is a temperature of 13c. The rain is what's restricting the views; just the fine stuff that prevents working outside for any length of time.

Yup, wet and windy at 13c.
Nothing can be done outside
Geting some diy done inside. All those jobs that seem a good idea to do that you never quite get around to. But I'm flagging on day 2 already.
Hope Abs is ok and not been blown to timbuck toooooo....
So envious Farway. Budgets are set for individual projects so don't feel guilty. No trees wouldn't supply anything else.I can rise and shine - just not at the same time!

The drizzle has turned into real rain, now wet, warm & windyI like the look of The Newt, and have to say I'd not heard of it before you posted. Can't see me ever getting there now But I reckon it's a place to get lost in frit heaven by the looks of it.Luckily, I have seen the Wisley & West Dean trained trees so not feeling too deprivedAnd now itching to train some of my fruit trees into circles.twopenny said:..

Surprisingly affordable, though, at under £170.

Coincidentally, I've popped back tonight to re-view the question from the person who didn't want an EV charging point under their coach house. (Flat above garages) Mysteriously, it's gone!Surely it didn't self-combust?
More rain and wind, still, but I think it's losing its edge now. Hope you folks up north are faring OK.We shall need tomorrow to dry out again, but Thursday with 14c looks promising.

Aww is that thread gone? I hadn't finished reading it! Looks like it did self-combust Dusty
The Newt looks amazing, I enjoyed that article. The work that must've taken... I wouldn't even have thought of fanning currants on a wall or the crown one. And the weighting stone - that's brilliant. It's made me wonder what I could do with my trees... I'm also wondering about trees and convenants now you've said that pp. I didn't even think to look, I just bunged 'em in holes carefully and thoughtfully placed them in considered selected spots in the garden. Hmm.
Is your Merton uprooted and blowing about the place Farway? Or still rooted but come loose from it's tie and blowing about in it's place? Fingers crossed it's alright after all the trouble you've been to with itAs for the council trees - maybe all the other money pots are full so those are an extra, and it's not an either/or situation? She said, hopefully
You get plenty of diy done yesterday then 2p? What you on with? You make me feel idle!
Well the sobers were wrong yesterday, the rain didn't arrive mid-aft. It arrived as I was on my way to Aldi and the heavens just opened as I got out the car. Me with no coat on me or brolly or nothing *sigh* Wasn't that heat last night strange? I opened the kitchen window last night to let he chip pan smell out and I could hardly believe the warm dry air that blew inIt's the same these next few nights too, warming up toward midnight with the wind... Something wrong there like, it being January and all. Not that I'm wanting to curse it
You know next door's for sale? Well I thought the ea's sign had blown away in the wind, but RM tells me "this property has been removed by the agent".So there's that.
I removed the shell from my racing snail, but now it's more sluggish than ever.5 -
Storm Jocelyn was seriously scary at 4am this morning - it woke me up and I stayed awake for a couple of hours listening to it roar. I can't see any damage, but I haven't been outside yet...
I've got a lovely image of Farway's Merton thornless rolling around his garden like tumbleweed (sorry Farway).
It looks like another windy and rainy day here, tail end of Jocelyn I assume. It's warm here too, YBE.'A watched potato will never chit'...4
