Awful weather - typical Brits talk

Here’s a thing I didn’t know. On the drunkard’s app there’s an advert in the middle, with a wee link “why do we show adverts”. This is what comes up -I thought the Met Office was a weather service…. My ignorance knows no bounds 🙄I removed the shell from my racing snail, but now it's more sluggish than ever.4

Most things that can be monetised these days, usually are, Bluey. Supposedly impartial, truth-seeking institutions, like universities, routinely accept donations from private companies or 'benevolent foundations' set up by very wealthy individuals. It is claimed these seats of learning and research are unaffected by this input of $£$£, but I could cite examples where this has clearly not been the case. However, if I did, it might be my last visit here.
Media also has to be funded. That's why I pay for proper, investigative journalism of the old school variety.
Anyway, I don't see adverts unless I want to. I paid for a blocker, which still works, despite YouTube and others saying it doesn't. That's on a 'puter, though, not a phone. My smartphone is intentionally dumb!Double figure temperatures out there this morning, and that misleading spring-like feeling that will lead us all astray if we dare to think winter's done with us.Still, "gather ye rosebuds while ye may,” or in my case, "Pick up thy chainsaw, and work!"

In the old days before everything was incognito you could ring up the Met office and ask for a weather forecast for your chosen area.
I did that for when there was snow and I was travelling down the motorway for a play in Exeter. Very accurate. Said it would be coldest at 10,30 so we went to the bar after until it warmed up a bit before travelling home.
Quite exciting that snowdrop valley will be open from this weekend !! It was always my - go to - as the first sign of spring and the world starting to wake up. Photos later.
Then primrose walks, bluebells and wild pony foals. Lockdowns took all that away for 2 yrs and only really just got going again.
Cloudy, flat dirty white and 10c. Just a breeze but feels warm.
Love having the windows open and nothing cold.
Saying it will be dry for a few days after today ........
Oh the phrase was oft repeated by my grandmother as a reason to stop work and sit down.
A good one to stop you thinking you haven't done enough.I can rise and shine - just not at the same time!

Totally agree Dusty. I think a lot of people would be horrified if they understood in the inner machinations of the world. In a previous job I had dealings with a cancer charity, I'll just say they put the tv licence people to shame
*Ahem* Anyway. It was the fact it didn't say 'the Met Office is a weather service funded by govt trading' or 'the Met Office is part of a govt trade fund' or summat. The Met Office IS a govt trading fund, that's what surprised me.
Get that chainsaw lifted and get some work done
Aww snowdrop pics 2pHopefully that means they'll be out round here soon too.

Yesterday was spring like here as well, and now it's back to drizzle & wet.And I saw my first butterfly of the year yesterday, poor thing's probably drowned nowThis morning's post brought me a Dibley's catalogue, very nice of course but not for me this year, just no where really suitable for those type of indoor plants. Once the Premium Bond comes up, I will think again. With yesterday's spring like weather, I did get out in the garden, it was really nice for once, no bitter wind or numb noseEven spotted a celandine open, but some bird had vandalised it by pecking off most of the petals, I suppose being the only spot of colour around easily mistaken for food until sampledFound a likely, if a tad cramped, spot for my subsidised new apple. The space is part occupied at present by day lilies, not exotic ones, bog-standard orange ones. My cunning plan is to remove some of these and put the new apple in the space. The removed lilies will be transplanted into the volunteer border where the car ploughed into the fence and is currently bare after the fencing contractor's trampling. Being tough, they should do OK there, and provide a pleasant bit of colour, plus tall enough to give an aiming point for car drivers. The Merton Thornless blackberry has been tied back into its allotted space after escaping during the storms. Looks quite tidy now and all set for crumbles. The £2 clematis from Morries, planted a month or so back, has fresh shoots showing so all looking good thereAnd finally, the mystery lump spotted on the grass [not lawn] turned to be part of my bird bath, the top perching bit. It only sits into a slot, and guessing either storm winds dislodged it or a deranged squirrel is the culprit. It reminded me as mini Planet of the Apes final scene, but not as dramatic obvs.Eight out of ten owners who expressed a preference said their cats preferred other peoples gardens6

Dusty happy significant birthday 🥳
YBE. My snowdrops are flowering ,I must have lost a few when I dug out for the acer. Luckily they were purloined from my daughters garden so will nip and acquire some more😉
The storm winds kept me awake all night, like Dusty I can hear the tiles rise and fall , I sometimes think I might end up in OZ . Yesterday was sunny but still very windy, got the washing out but didn’t dare put the prop on to hold it higher. Otherwise my unmentionables might have been scattered around the field. Walked to Lidl no garden stuff at all.
Today is dull and damp supposed to be rain this afterNoon,so I’ve done a couple of hours in the front garden. Those alliums I told you about had resprung, no idea from where, as I thought I’d dug them all out. They look messy so dug out again, also cleared the weeds from the path edges. Ended up with thick mud under my nails even though I had gloves on!! Bin half full. Just had lunch and put heating on, going to get showered to warm up.
Hoping Arbs is enjoying the trip.Focus on contribution instead of the impressiveness of consumption to see the true beauty in people.6 -
Must be that birthday by now?Is it a card from the King?Well the grey day turned into wet and windy. There's a surprise.BTW I tied up the lavender trees and the one that seemed to have come off at the trunk I've stuck in the ground before lashing to the post as Farways advice and my inclination. I think they are all going to be a bit dead shortly if not before but hey ho.I remember posting on here thinking they wouldn't last a winter and it's been 4yrs or so. Mind I didn't expect them to grow into mini thugs. Not been great so I thought I'd pop in and post a pretty picture to welcome Bluey as she's up first and maybe warm some chillyer members up - seems a long time since I've seen one of these. It's our local spot to go and sit and watch the sun go down on more clement days. Sometimes take a picnic because it can take over an hour to set, 2 in summer.

Wow 2p, that's a picture
Sitting watching that set for a couple of hours, that wouldn't be a chore would it! Fingers crossed for your lavender - maybe as thugs they're made of hardier stuff and will survive rightly?
So is today the day Dusty? I wish you a significantly happy birthday or a happy significant birthday, or both, delete as appropriate
I like your birdbath Farway with the wee birds on it. Did it survive it's travels? Sounds like you're having more luck with your morries clematis than I am, mine is not producing shoots or being happy in general. It's brown and translucent and mushy looking... If it's still out there after all the wind last night it'll be the only point in it's favour.
Bladdy windy out there last night and still ripping along now. It's says 'feels like' is 1' but it feels a lot warmer than that to me. Lovely full bright moon right over my garden but the skinny wee bits of clouds are scuttling along too fast to get a pic
Oh and Peaky Blinders is going downhill imo. Was it you said you'd given up on it pp? I'm half way through series 3 and I'm not having the Russian nonsense. Did they get a whole new staff or something? Writing/direction/music all very ...different. She said, diplomatically.
I hope you're having too much fun to be reading this ArbI removed the shell from my racing snail, but now it's more sluggish than ever.6 -
twopenny said:Must be that birthday by now?Is it a card from the King?Well the grey day turned into wet and windy. There's a surprise.Sadly, no card yet, but the second class postal service is notoriously unreliable.
A more salient point is that I'm only 3/4 of the way to it anyway!
My birthday was a few days ago, and I still can't get my head around the number. Where did all those years go?
Mrs Dusty's a good bit younger, but walking friend and I first met in the1950s!
We didn't have your wind here yesterday. It was a good day for being up on the hedge with the chainsaw, and although it threatened to rain, it remained dry till after dark. The NW wind, which came along in the night, seemed pretty bad; a lot of tile rattling again. That's a very fine sunset picture! I'd place it somewhere around County Gate, that being Foreland Point in the distance.Like Bluey they're giving us 7c at present, but the wind chill makes it feel a lot less, especially in your PJs! When I've had all my medications, perhaps Mrs Dusty will let me have my daytime clothing!(They're all still asleep here!)
Edit: Thanks for the good wishes, wort and Bluey. Like others of you, I found some snowdrops blooming in a sheltered spot yesterday."There is no such thing as a low-energy rich country." Dr Chris Martenson. Peak Prosperity5 -
Well the blue skies and sunshine predicted seem to be materialising!
Of course I'm committed to being inside for part of the day.
Not that keen on starting on the garden. I've a line of plants with some disease or other, trellis to fix and a heck of a lot of clearing up. It's a pitiful state.
February nearly here? Time for a new start, clear up and start the veg seeds off which will of course, be perfect this year.
7c here but feels a lot warmer and a strong wind still bowling along.
Many happy returns DustyI can rise and shine - just not at the same time!
