    Good news Pastapur.
last week son in law came in the rain and put my new washing pole up, so I had to abandon the housework and head out with him. The wooden posts had rooted at the bottom so all but 2 of the six are now out. I had to chop back the evergreen clematis and will need to think of what to do with supporting it now.

I got some pretty jugs from work with bulbs in , muscari and iris, so I have planted those up and fingers crossed 🤞🏻 they flower , it says to put them in the cold for 10 weeks ? So I’ve put them in the conservatory. Hopefully after flowering they can go out in the garden for next year.

very cold today but sunny and blowy so washing is out, and nearly time to fetch in.
Hoping that Thursday is similar as I have planned a walk with a couple of friends, ending in a hot cuppa somewhere.

I braved the icy wind for about 4.5 hrs today, with the aid of thermal underwear, beanie, and gloves —-hope you were wearing a bit more than that Dusty.

I had neuromas in my foot and had 2 surgeries, the physio said any soft shoes , plus being barefoot is not good for your feet, I had special insoles made by podiatrists, and had to buy hotter shoes as they have removable insoles to put them in. Check the sales in summer and around now. She recommended hotter and also rocker based shoes /trainers. These helped me as I wasn’t then bending my toes whilst walking.

love the monster faces on pebbles.

    Gorgeous photograph Poppy!
I don't know how you cope with the temperatures up there. It was 2 here today with a biting NE wind so despite trying a walk with the group quickly sent you scuttling inside when you turned a corner and hit an icy blast.

Farway, saw you might get snow on the forcast. I agree, spent the afternoon indoors with the woolies and fleece on which was much nicer than facing up to the cold. Mind had no choice as it scuppered my whatever so could barely walk.

Dusty, I think I got that wrong again. It's vegitating because I can't get on with stuff.
It was Woolacombe - Croyde. Defo not 10k. Parked at the very end of Marine Drive (putsborough too expensive) and walked to the beach and up. About 3 miles and the path is good.

Bluey, your bulbs will be fine. Last spring I posted a photo of my large pot with layered bulbs o:)and it was holding an inch of water. I said they would all rot - but they came up fine and lovely. Tough old things, bulbs.

    Lovely pic, Dusty. Very atmospheric.

It was either larch or spruce with the logs. Everywhere local seems to just have kiln dried and not seasoned as well. We did get some big chunks of an unknown variety a few months ago that DH hacked chopped into 'logs' - they were much better and lasted longer.

Another cold and frosty one today - feels even colder than yesterday. Sun is forecast though, so we'll get some free solar heat for a few hours at least before the fire goes on...

Cold again, white cloud as forcast. 3c on the thermometer but the wind blasting past all round.
There's no direction you can shelter in outside.

I'm beginning to wonder what gardening is.
Sure going to be hard when starting again!

Love the photo Dusty. Bare trees are beautiful  :)

Blue sky & sunshine, but it's bitterly cold, yesterday's snow is still around & never thawed it's so cold. I had sort of planned to go to Home B etc on bulb / plant hunt but nope, not in this cold

Agree, YBE your bulbs will be fine, however my squirrels may pop round and eat the iris later >:) . I have muscari and one of my uncompleted tasks is to split them up a bit, but not in this cold with numb fat fingers.

No photo today, nice moon one Dusty. Too cold for me to go & get a snowy flower pic

  • Is it just me or is the site on a go-slow this morning..?

Lovely pics 2p and Dusty :)

My bulbs are in my trio planter thing, and I cover it with an mdf board thing overnight so the cats/whoever can't get among them. I now have 5 (5!) regular squirrels and I'm on the brink of fetching BiL round with his meet-your-maker-machine. I should have done it NYE when there were bangs galore and would've covered the noise rightly.

Cool here again, but the sun is trying to come out. No gardening or pics from me today. I might be sat here/having a sofa day today for I've got a hurty toe :( I don't think it's another chilblain cos it feels different, a bit of D'Ducking tells me it might be gout :o Could very well be cos I've been hoovering up all the remaining Christmas goodies with gusto, which is a long way from my normal intake.

Looking at next week's forecast they've taken snow off the menu :( Still cold, but maybe just a wee bit of rain. Possibly.
I removed the shell from my racing snail, but now it's more sluggish than ever.

Oh No, hope for your sake it's not. I was crippled with Gout this time last year, feet & fingers, awful. Had to spend some days marooned upstairs because putting a foot down to take weight was just unbearable.

Diet will help, but please don't struggle on, get medication from the Dr if it persists, it works like magic

  • I'll ring the docs in the morning (no chance of getting anything now). Chilblains are sore but it's nothing like as painful as this, and it's only one toe! I really don't want it spreading to other toes or fingers.
