You do make me laugh, Farway
Still no word from YBE
Dusty, that pic is lovely too - gorgeous warm colours.
Twopenny, is it a traditional weather vane?? We need a pic
Another freezing cold day here. No sun, so zero free solar heat. Guess who forgot to put the storage heater on last night...'A watched potato will never chit'...5 -

Garden related question - can someone vaguely tell me when I need to start doing things with plants? I'm planning on growing (from seed) some squash, a rhubarb, a selection of perennial herbs, a bush tomato (in a tub), and maybe a courgette plant (and the strawberries that now live rent free in my lawn!).
I'm expecting/hoping to have at least one raised bed filled and available sometime in March and I'm mindful that I ran out of growing season with my late planting last year, so I'm assuming starting some off inside is sensibleI'm not an early bird or a night owl; I’m some form of permanently exhausted pigeon.4 -
Twopenny, is it a traditional weather vane?? We need a picI have to put it together first! Haven't even unwrapped the box. It's a cheap traditional one that goes in the ground or on a post if I remember.I'd been looking for ages on the net and this popped up in the Hardware store when I was looking for paint......as things do. Love that store.Abs, the usual time for sowing 'greens' is February, squash type things later like March or April or May nder cover. Each one is a little different and it also depends on where you live.Brassicas are tough and like to germinate in the cold, rhubarb is pretty tough but I;ve never grown from seed. That's going to take ages. See if someone has a bit of root while you wait the years for the seed to grow into a plantsquash a tender soul.Strawberries in the lawn? If they are plants and you don't expect frost or snow they can be moved better in winter while they are dormant.Hope Blueys toe problem hasn't spread to her keyboard finger

It's at https://www.charlesdowding.co.uk/education/sowing-timeline

I watch little broadcast TV, so you had me going for a while there, Farway!Oh, and I can assure you GCHQ would have had nothing to track either; it wasn't that bad!Arb, I agree with the others, Too early to do anything with seeds apart from those that require natural outdoor conditions. I might set up the propagator at the end of next month, but apart from chillies, March is early enough."There is no such thing as a low-energy rich country." Dr Chris Martenson. Peak Prosperity6

That was brilliant Farway, I didn't see that coming!
Thanks for your thought folks, I really appreciate themThe doc rang me, told me it was probably just the cold and therefore a chilblain and to take brufen/paracetamol. He wasn't having it when I told him I've had chilblains and this ain't that. Give it a couple of weeks then make an appointment with your GP (!) OkThankYouForCallingGoodbye. As the Oracle can see straight into my living room she came over to ask why I'm hobbling. I've now got 3 gouty toes and it's spreading into the ball of my foot
So yesterday morning she had her grandson pick me up and take me to a walk-in clinic in the next town (didn't even know it existed). It's a 'hurry up and wait' type place, took hours to get to me cos it's not an emergency. That doc examined me - bit roughly actually - and confidently announced I have a trapped nerve, and to give it a couple of weeks of brufen/paracetamol cos it'll probably right itself but if anything goes black I'm to go straight into Hull Royal. I'd sooner do a Ranulph and snip bits off, truly I would. So she had me stop at hers last night, dosed me up with strong painkilllers, and now I'm home again. Thank god for the Oracle.
OT - it looks cold out there, my car is all frosty. Not pretty bin lid frosty, just plain frosty.I oppose genocide. I support freedom of speech. I support freedom of assembly.6 -
Sorry to hear that but how lovely of the Oracle.
Stay in for a couple of days and spoil yourself
The whole story sounds horribly familiar to here.
I've finally got a call from physio, 3mts+ and I had to ask what I'd written on the referal! Also asked if 'managing' the problem means help or take two paracetamol ........
The weather isn't helping. We're due on the moors to watch the lifeboat but it's dark and 1c with biting wind so not disappointing and not a pleasure. Still, unique so it's thermals, hot water bottles and flask of coffee with a bath planned.
The weather promises better this coming week so gardening planned.
Watch this space!I can rise and shine - just not at the same time!

Anything useful come of your physio call 2p? The lifeboat trip sounds interesting, a case of wrap up warm and just get out there. Take some pics?
Aye thank god for the Oracle, she went above and beyond, she really did. I'll ask lovely neighbour to get her a bunch of flowers from me when she's out next.I oppose genocide. I support freedom of speech. I support freedom of assembly.5
