Awful weather - typical Brits talk

Storm Pia is indeed an impostor of sorts, from the lands of the fjords, perhaps checking out all those plants over here which have been pining for their homeland. According to a well-known online encyclopaedia it's been named by the Northern Storm-naming group, which names a storm "when it has not received a name by any other meteorological service in Europe and is projected to affect Denmark, Norway or Sweden". Doesn't explain why they chose that particular name tho...

Sorry to hear you've had a tough time Paspatur.
A winters rest and then the garden will be a great healer.
Perhaps I really should watch the film. A good cry can do a world of good at the right time.
Morning - sheesh that really is some wind!!
Won't be going on the hill walk today.
But mild, 11c at 8am.
Seems my japonica is coming into bloom a month early.
I need to get the plum tree pruned if it's all going to be this early. The apple trees are all the wrong shape too but I need advice on those again. I wasn't as brutal as advised and now have trouble.
Lookng at the watery grey sky coming over it looks like it won't be today again.
Hope you're all staying safe and not taking any risk.I can rise and shine - just not at the same time!
viral kindness .....kindness is contageous pass it on

Sorry you've/oh had a rough time of it Paspatur, is the prognosis favourable? A good cry is good for you in general imo, if nothing else it clears your pipes out and releases the tension. Ditto for a good laugh
That's good info Less, I didn't realise that's how they named them. Maybe the name discrepancy is cos the chart Dusty quoted is from the drunkards...
I love that garden Dusty, and especially the mushroomI'd just need to work out which flowers to plant to keep it like that all year round and I'd be happy with that. Think of all the birds you'd have
Good work on the 'respecting of human stuff' cats. Actually I saw a picture the other day that'd be good here, I'll go see if I can find it.
Speaking of birds - how's your blackies 2p? Hopefully they've set up home and you've got em for years.
I like your quotes, the Douglas Adams one is good. I'm in a position where I've done as much as I can as well as I can, and now I have to sit back and wait. Not my forte
Anyway. OT - properly bladdy windy out there, it really is. The sobers say it's peaking now at 50mph, but they also say it's raining and will go for the next hour but it ain't. I hope our friends north of the border are battened down and safe?
Did anyone else see the thing about "mother of pearl" clouds on their news last night? I'd never heard of them but I really wanna see one now, very unusual and appealing!I removed the shell from my racing snail, but now it's more sluggish than ever.4 -
A festive pic (even made me giggle!)Speaking of clouds - this was our sunset the other night. It really felt like if you could just stretch a tiny wee bit further you could get your hands up into itI removed the shell from my racing snail, but now it's more sluggish than ever.6

Gawd I don't even know the things I thought I knew.
So we get slots then do we? Your go then his go then her go then their go. I thought a storm was named by the country who would be worst affected by it.
No I don't remember Fergus either. Well, any of them after Debi actually!I removed the shell from my racing snail, but now it's more sluggish than ever.3 -
Thank you 2p and YBE
Prognosis is hopefully good, chemo now done and at the halfway point the cancer was reduced
Find out 1st week in January if it is in remission
Unfortunately the resultant bone damage and loss of mobility may be harder to remedy but the bone doctor is determined to help once the cancer is gone
Back on topic
Storm Pia has just thrown a wheelie bin at my Garrya elliptica ‘James Roof’
At least one branch broken but I am not inspecting it further at the moment as it is scary out there6 -

Wow
I'm glad I mentioned it now, that's front page material again there.
Is any of us actually checking the front page to see what's occurring...?
Edit - nowt there.I removed the shell from my racing snail, but now it's more sluggish than ever.2 -
twopenny said:Oh I love that and I want one desperately! The garden looks easy to manage - or is that an illusion Dusty?I'm busy planning how to recut the turf in mine to make it a little more interesting and ditto the gazebo that I couldn't do last year because it was too hot and dry/to wet and muddy. It's prairie planting & I admire it at Wisley. I think it started life [current fad] at the London Olympics. If I were much younger I would transform the volunteer area into this, it would look stunning, I bet.Bees etc love it and once settled in looks after itself, no doubt needs a bit of weeding I expectHere's an old pic of mine from WisleyEight out of ten owners who expressed a preference said their cats preferred other peoples gardens2
