Awful weather - typical Brits talk

There was me, thinking I was careless, bumping into trees with the deck of the ride-on, but all the time I was ring barking them to restrict growth. Is there a similar sort of term for getting it stuck, and nearly going off-piste into the stream? Something like 'free-form soil compaction' perhaps?Hedgeman has been and gone. Pictures eventually, and they're not pretty!
The rest of the day will be picking up all the bits that flew!

YoungBlueEyes said:Ooh Less that's a colour! It feels very calm and still and ...eerie. Did it last long? Do they know what causes it?It was eerie, lasted for 20mins or so maybe - explanation on BBC website (posted here a week or so ago - I thought it was by yourself YBE?) is unsatisfactory...(https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/av/uk-wales-67645998)...and I've never noticed this kind of overall pinky-purple before...weather has been unduly murky with dense mizzle for what seems like weeks here (with the odd half day of brighter skies)...And to others' queries, yes, my garden; fortuitous view taken from back door as I only had socks on (my feet that is) and wanted to snap quickly before the colour diminished...pic somewhat spoilt by whirly, which should have been stowed away by now, but somehow never happens, little chance of drying outside from November to at least March in these parts...

Gawd, sorry Less, I actually remember reading that link but I can't remember the reason. I've just clicked on it for a re-read and they've taken it down...
So you're bouncing about the place like a Parkour person but on a mower Dusty? You should probably get in first and invent a name for that. Hope trees and stream are ok?
Aye it makes a lovely change us having the good weather eh wort. I'm sat here with a couple of windows and my back door openIt's a re-run of yesterday I think, lovely and mild (11') and a fair breeze. The second himself peels his backside outta bed I'll have it stripped and in the wash. He's off now 'til next year and I've his To-Do List ready to go ha haa! If the weather holds up for tomorrow I'll get a bit of titivating done in the garden - forecast is good so it's possible
I removed the shell from my racing snail, but now it's more sluggish than ever.4 -
Your link is a 404, Less, so the mystery deepens!
Being a 'conspiracy theorist,' 33rd degree, my betting is that Drakeford did a deal with the aliens just before resigning, and this was their cover for the mothership arriving to whisk him away to Planet Zog. After all, with his popularity rating, he won't want to return to Cardiff, and his chalet in Pembs doesn't exist, or else he would be the owner of a holiday home, wouldn't he?
Meanwhile, it's still mild and nothingy grey here, but at least there's only a bit of drizzle forecast. That's just as well, because I'm continuing to pick-up the detritus from our severe hedge reduction yesterday. The hedge will look awful until spring, but I will be tidying-up all the ragged ends with a chainsaw, so it will improve a little before then. I don't expect our lovely neighbours understand how these things work, but hey-ho.First cut above. Last pass below!"There is no such thing as a low-energy rich country." Dr Chris Martenson. Oh you've got a proper laid hedge Dusty! That's lovelyImp across the channel we've been getting a lot of strange pink but only in bits, wonderful but not stunning like yours. This morning I woke to 12c, lovely warm breeze and it was light at 7.30. Joy! Sunrise colours turining into thick grey above but bright blue around the sides.............we got the grey followed by the wind turning and rainBut this was the best start to the morning. The blackbirds (more than one) were chuntering last night and while I was out looking at this a female blackie came to the fence and hovered in the tree besideToday is the day it gets 2mins lighter in the evening :-)))Sorry to our morning folk who have to wait for the mornings to get lighter.

Links still exists, putting paid to conspiracy theories! - my fault being careless and adding bits onto it by mistake.... it's https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/av/uk-wales-67645998

So which tree did you go for Farway? I checked my council and they don't do it, sadly. You up a tree ring barking it made me giggle, were you a little s0d when you were younger then? The final decision is the councils, he who pays the Piper etc, but I asked for either cherry, crab apple or rowan, but being council just as likely to get an oak if they feel like itI started the day with good intentions, weather is mild but dull, and the sort of pinky tinge others have mentioned, intention was prescription and sneak a few cuttings of Rosa Car ParkiiHowever, first couldn't find my secateurs, left in safe place of course. Then blooming car has a puncture, grrrr, currently on PC waiting for RAC to arrive, my weakened & wobbly state means no way can i change car wheels any more. So, no gardening & no cuttingsEight out of ten owners who expressed a preference said their cats preferred other peoples gardens3 -
Aww Farway, what a grim day. Hope you're home now.If it's any consolation I've had a grim and gloomy day too. Not as bad as yours but just as annoying.Been out to look at my Christmas Clematis ie Jingle Bells. It's survived the drought and flood though not as flourising as hoped it is alive and blooming. A bit ropey and I can't get on steps to train it somewhere more visible yet as it's just sodden earth.I do however have one sucess - at last!!!!The helebore that I wantly bought and was suffering from the dry where I planted it I dumped it in a pot of compost and ignored it.Surprise! It's flourishing and blooming. First real flower of the next seaseonCould have done with some photo insturuction from Farway -

twopenny said:Oh you've got a proper laid hedge Dusty! That's lovelyYes, it's a mixed blessing. Over the years, some lower laid pieces have died, and it's a devil of a job to fill in where that's happened, so some sections are holey. Elm is nigh on impossible to buy as whips these days. I'm now filling-in where I can with hornbeam, which looks vaguely similar. We are keeping the lower structure of the hedge intact, but making it 'break' lower down in the spring, instead of having the main burst of growth near the top. It will be a bit of a nightmare, tidying all those ravaged stems with the chainsaw, but I'll do it bit by bit over the next few months. That's a nice 'Christmas Rose' 2p. My orientalis are just beginning to show, spurred on by the mild weather. It was 17c according to the car yesterday afternoon.
Your campanula is still doing its thing too, of course!
Glad you have Home Start, Farway.Being at the top of a hill that's over half a mile long, I don't
......but a puncture would be a problem!
Not much to report here, garden-wise. The forecast up to Christmas Day looks pretty similar, with temperatures around 10c max and light rain featuring. No frost or snow in sight. Spotted a very impressive Pittosporum in town yesterday, but no one around to ID it, so that's on the list. Meanwhile, here's P. 'Silver Ball' I saw in the Cool Garden at Rosemoor, which I'd guess is a sport from 'Golf Ball,' and equally desirable:

Yes mild again here. 12c and no heating on.
The Blackies 2 were cross this morning chuntering away at odds with each other.
I noticed last year that they started nesting around Feb, but that's when we get snow briefly if we do at all.
Not just the Hellibore. I saw a flower on the forsythia in a tour of my estate.
It's raining again of course. Planned a walk with the gang but long wet grass and rain that's not going to happen! So need a new idea.
So far it's been the wettest winter.
Was hoping to get in the garden and reorganise the climbers to go along the top of the fence but the ladder would sink if I tried it.
Bluey, your reminders about the rose are working. I was trying to order stuff on the net yesterday but so much is sold out tilll new year. Best to wait till after Christmas when who knows, we may get some time withour rain hail or snowI can rise and shine - just not at the same time!
