Slow start this morning and nearly had my legs cut off by the icy easterly when I let the hens out!
It's not really very cold yet, either.
According to MSM fear-pron, we're in for a Polar Plunge; if we don't get swine flu or the new China v*r*s first, that is!Well, I've turned the outside water off, and apart from insulating the boiler's condensate pipe, that's my prep. We have doors on one end of the polytunnel now, but the other end won't be ready for the Plunge on time.
Actually, apart from tomorrow and Saturday, this “12 day wall of snow” doesn't seem likely to be doing much here. We're back at 7c + from Sunday, according to the drunks. Sorry about that, Bluey.Oh, and if Hunt could arrange it, I'd willingly trade my winter fuel allowance for being just below minimum pension age; I felt like a young stallion then!
<Fumbles in photo bag> Not sure what to show you folks this morning, but maybe this will do. Do you remember the photo frame thing at Rosemoor? Well, I returned to it, only to find they'd lit it up!I was totally wrong about shooting through it the 'wrong' way, though. Couldn't get the female sculpture into the frame at all. In fact, this was all I could do...
Hmmmm....boring! Well it is the education block!Hi Wellies, nice to see you. You've been productive as usual, but I'm confused as to your whereabouts now. Have you made it back to the West Country yet? Good to hear from greenbee too. You've also been busy. ) but my complaint is officially withdrawn
I'm not an early bird or a night owl; I’m some form of permanently exhausted pigeon.4 -
I'm sure they'll be trouble, but they're pretty good for now - tell me when they want food, when the litter tray needs cleaning, when they want to play, when they want me to sit down so they can sit on me. And they're happy playing together.
YBE - the mice are in the attic and garage. They did venture into the spare room wardrobe too, but that's all now sealed up. One of the jobs we're working on is filling holes with wire wool/expanding foam/filler. And in some cases using ply (for example where round pipes go through square holes). So the big holes are being done, then each room will be done properly as it is decorated.7 -
Even I’d say they’re little sweeties gb
What’ve you named them? Good news that the mice aren’t properly inside yet too. Sounds like it’s all go at your place eh.
Woohoo for Christmas tree! Looks like a good one, fingers crossed it has roots 🤞🏻 Booo to hedge trimmings though. What are all the wee birds supposed to do? I thought it was illegal to cut hedges after October…?Grrr for insurance quotes Farway. That whole
gig wants looking at imo. Definitely some errr …sharp practices… going on with all of them. Filthy swines. The sun was lovely this morning so I took mum+dad some flowers and jeez but it’s cold up there 🥶 I got talking to someone and the ‘snow’ started falling… well I say snow, it was hard wee sharp ice shards that the wind was making sure got dug all the way into ya. They didn’t come out on a pic, naturally. No 12 foot wall of snow forecast for this side but if you get it down there Dusty we’re aaallll doooomed! I remember the photo frame thing, I know it’s not exactly swish or special but I think they’re a brilliant ideaRight I’ll D’Duck’d membrillo and watch David Mitchell have a rant. He’s very good at it, and I always agree with him!I removed the shell from my racing snail, but now it's more sluggish than ever.5 -
Wow
got up to 3c here!
Feels like minus 4.To be fair I still haven't been far to test it. Sitting looking up savings and holidays - the two opposite endsStaying in with heating on. Deciding whether to go out and bung up the air vents etc as half the house is north east facing or just stay in with my cheese and wine.I was going to do sorting out and mending but the wine with lunch sort of made me not care, as the multiple emojois shows (should there be an apostrophe there?).I'm missing my fun today but I've had enough of 'bracing myself' just lately.I have rose gardening books to read but it's been so long getting out there the impetus has gone.I may just watch Gardeners World which will be all sunshine while I mend the pillows that both burst at once.Life just is so excitingI can rise and shine - just not at the same time!

twopenny said:Dusty, yes you got our sunshine I guess as we didn't get it. Wonder if you are going on your rambles?Tried to go back and catch up on all that's been going on here but there's tons of it.Did you see the other thread? I got my Christmas tree at half price! One happy bunny.I'm not rambling in the immediate future, 2p. Only on here!
Perhaps rambling friend and I will get out on the trails again before Christmas, or perhaps I'll be able to tempt Mrs Dusty into exploring the local forestry paths, but I'm not betting on either at this time of year. It takes Mrs Dusty a fortnight just to put up all the Christmas lights and stuff.
It also gets dark so early, and I'm not the happiest night driver, so rambles must be short. When the weather's foul, we've been known to go to the pub instead!
Indeed, that's where Mrs Dusty is now with one of her interest groups.
This thread moves so fast, I missed lots of posts earlier too, but I did spot your bargain Christmas tree. Well done! We've pruned our oak tree out front and lifted the crown, so now it can be festooned with lights. I say “we,” but it was my SiL wielding the chain saw, and he's also the one who climbs up and winds the lights into the branches. Isn't it odd how there's always one set that doesn't work, when it did last year?

I meant to come on again last night to say - David Mitchell was v good (as ever) and membrillo looks interesting. I'd have some if it was on a plate in front of me but I'm getting too anti-faff to make some myself. Not that I've the ingredients to start it mind! But I got waylaid reading my news app, ever time I 'turned the page' someone else had died, I've never known so many in one day. I was reading about Shane McGowan (you're the measure of my dreams - what a poet, god love him), then there was Henry Kissinger and Pol Pot and Alistair Darling and him that played Jimmy Corkhill in Brookie and a woman I did sort of remember as I was reading but I've forgotten now. In one day
I wish wine didn't make me all itchy and twitchy. Wine with lunch is grown up and sophisticated and accepted, ask for a whiskey and you're a slovenly drunk that gets the side-eyeDid you get your savings and holidays worked out 2p? Is it Skeggy or Bali next year? Still waiting on the 'on a boat up the Amazon' story too btw... And your story Farway...
1st of December today and it sure is Winter, tis cold out there this morning. The moon has survived to see the (quite colourful) dawn, which I always likeAll the moisture there was froze overnight and then it snowed on top of it. Shawshank Patch looks almost pretty now
I've just been out to feed the birds and I've got a couple of pics. I'm glad I got my erse into gear and got all my stuff done yesterday so I've nowhere to go today, the roads will be treacherous. People have already come a-cropper cos there's been 2 lots of sirens this last hour.
I removed the shell from my racing snail, but now it's more sluggish than ever.6 -
Winter is come. A diddy wee rose that I hadn’t spotted -
And my myrtle looking festive -And the view from my unheated conservatory -I removed the shell from my racing snail, but now it's more sluggish than ever.6 -
Brrrrrrrr! Thank goodness we have a 3c still. Cloudy though and dry so I'm putting the washing on and back to bed for a mo to keep warm.
No, beibg indoors and not a sound and movement outside except for seagulls my mind is still whirring with I need a car, laptop, holiday, fairy lights all over the work top.......now I know why I don't do decorations. Love them but it's just adds to the 'things to do'
Did briefly look at the fence, dark brown or green? As if I didn't have enough on my plate! Distraction.
So no, disappeared down a rabbit hole once on the net. Just going round in circles trying to solve problems. Perhaps ignore them and they'll sort themselves out?
I agree, not much to cheer at the moment.I can rise and shine - just not at the same time!
