I should be trying to make things like that instead of having to pfaff around with sorting and shuffling around with the house.
Maybe next year....We know only too well the feeling of having things half-done. Our work/life here has been on hold for several reasons for a year or two.
I've learned not to let 'finishing' assume too great an importance and to enjoy the present, imperfect though it might be. There's a sense in which one never 'finishes,' especially with gardens and land.
I certainly didn't get much completed today, except an order for seeds with 20% off.It was supposed to rain at around 10.30, but it was exactly 13.20 when the first spots fell. This was the 3rd weekend when the guy who cuts the field and lane hedges didn't show, so we're still scruffy.
He will turn up eventually. Round here,“ at the weekend” doesn't refer to any particular one!
That's a poignantly captured rose Farway!

Ah must have been the same cloud Dusty.I'd decided to go out for a walk as the weather was decent and I did end up hanging around Tescos because it was warm and bright.I've looked at the garden a lot with various ideas, it was even warm with a shaft of sun that I could sit out and contemplate with a coffee this morning but think I need a whole dry day to get a decent chunk of work done on it or dribs and drabs will only need doing again. One bonus is that the cold snap seems to have dealt with the whitefly (in winter!!!!) there's a head of broccoli growing. I'm watching it as it may be ready for Christmas lunchBluey, yes, roses throw up a few blooms over winter. Just enough for a little one to be in a vase beside my bed.The fragrance then is a joy.
I can rise and shine - just not at the same time!

Late up this morning, I didn't wake 'til nearly 7
Himself was hungover all day yesterday, jeez he must've got some drink down him. It was a lovely sunny cold crisp day, good tootling about the garden weather, but I was on vomit bucket fetching nursing duties
He's got today off, prolly a good job
Hurray for no whitefly and a bedside rose 2p, good little winsI think my compost gnats are decreasing - I wasn't for paying the price of those square yellow special gnat catcher things so I bought a box of fly papers and they're working rightly
Pouring in the rain here with a northerly wind, warmer than yesterday though. The rain may or may not stop around 10 ish or 3ish or it'll stop in a minute, depending which app's lies I fall for this time....
Can't believe it's nearly 9 and I've not struck a bat!I removed the shell from my racing snail, but now it's more sluggish than ever.5 -
Wet here as well; Tusky says until around 1 and winds of around 25 later in the day.
You know, I'm not convinced we've had a hard frost yet. It's hard to tell because it's been wet in the mornings most mornings (those when I've been up and around early). There's been a few fairly cold mornings, but I think it's stayed around 3/4 and the nasturtiums are still in flower at the end of the garden.
I'm not an early bird or a night owl; I’m some form of permanently exhausted pigeon.4 -
It may stop raining here for a while this morning, and then suddenly it will tip down again, according to the drunkards. I don't care, because I'm off to do a spot of shopping, before checking out a previously unvisited garden centre with a friend. They need a tree, and having examined a few, buying one in the flesh could be safer than mail order lottery. We might not find the right tree, but I bet there will be cake.Lethargy does seem to creep in through the back door at this time of year, Bluey. Looking ahead, it does seem we might be somewhat drier going into December. That will help, as this morning the area around the polytunnel is awash, and I've no appetite for splodging around in cold mud.Thinking back to summer days, and continuing on the bird theme, I'll give you this one today

Dull & damp this morning, but at least it's warmer for the moment, however we are supposed to get Arctic Blocking later this week and another lot of cold weather. My dahlias & cannas have collapsed, but it's much too soggy & grotty to do any tidying, so they can stay that way for now.I'm hoping now it's warmer to get the Russian Sage potted on, way too cold yesterday for these old bones to potter around in my unheated conservatory, no rush, but I'd like to get them sorted for the winter.Found Beechgrove had not stopped when I thought, and watched some of it on iplayer yesterday instead of potting on RSNo photo today, but I have my eye on an architectural lily seed pod out the front, but blowed if I'm going out there at the momentEight out of ten owners who expressed a preference said their cats preferred other peoples gardens7

Ah I’m glad the Beechgrove was a new one for ya Farway, it’s definitely the last of that series though.Arctic Blocking sounds no more appealing than whatever that other nonsense was. Which reminds me - the girl on the link of the man with new boots got the weather the other day right. Squiggly snowflake or something was she called..? Lucy Worsely’s sister. I know we’re only half a day in to the week but CountryFile is holding up too (iirc). It stopped raining a couple of hours ago so all 3 apps were wrong. The shock!Nasturtiums still going Arb? I need to move dahn sarf, I reckon I’d be a good gardener if I was in a milder climateI like your bird Dusty, but I bet I wouldn’t like paying for one.Good luck with your RS FarwayI removed the shell from my racing snail, but now it's more sluggish than ever.4

Thanks for reminding me it was quince, AR.
Whizzing home from work today the moon was HUGE. I tried to take a pic (don’t worry, my DH was driving) - this was the best I could do - I love how the moon is reflected in the water. It’s not a bad commute...
'A watched potato will never chit'...9 -
Your commute probably trumps all of ours, poppy.
I was thinking it must be full moon now as I drove down the big valley tonight, but I didn't see any sign of it at all. Maybe we were in cloud again.
We were certainly in cloud in the afternoon, exactly as predicted, but it didn't matter too much, visiting a couple of garden centres. No singing reindeer, and no suitable tree either, but the ones they had, and their variety impressed me. Some of them wouldn't stand Arctic blocking, though. That's when lorry drivers follow their sat-nav instead of their better judgement, isn't it? Get loads of that here."There is no such thing as a low-energy rich country." Dr Chris Martenson. I'm here to issue a formal apology for today's weather as I am quite sure that it was my fault! I had a hospital appointment for a routine scan and had planned to cycle there which of course meant that it began to rain an hour before I had planned to set out and then persisted so I got very wet and had to call off my weeding session at the allotment afterwards. Delightfully, the scanning centre forms a deliberately designed wind tunnel so when I'd got dressed again I had to walk out through the teeth of a howling gale which made me shiver and then my bike handlebars and saddle were dripping wet, happy days eh!
Saturday and yesterday here were fine, sunny, cold, clear and crisp which I much prefer because it makes me feel so much more cheerful so I'm crossing my fingers for clearing skies.6
