Awful weather - typical Brits talk

Was surprisingly cool this morning so trying to catch up with indoors after all the chaos of the last weeks then it was too hot again to garden 😬

Loving everyone's photos. Mine need downloading and it's too dark hot indoors to do stuff.

But I've washed the car, done washing and tomorrow wash windows. Surely that will bring the rain?🤔

Went to the moors for some glorious cool breeze and could see big cumulus over Devon but only blue sky over Somerset.

Amazed at your ability to wash cars and windows etc 2P (not to mention all the other stuff), only a few weeks after all the talk of invalid trolleys, etc😮 But maybe that's just me, any excuse not to wash things like cars and windows would do!😁

Lots of big cumulus here too, but nothing falling from above…Fingers crossed for rain here and everywhere (but at a convenient time and in convenient amounts please!)

I'm with Less on washing windows and cars, though I had to give in and do the latter 2 weeks ago, thanks to being occasional transport for the dentist/health centre. 😐️

Yes, we did have a good deal of cloud yesterday, and lower temperatures helped me get on, as did mobility improvements enjoyed recently. I tackled a few jobs that had been put off for a long time, like trimming a newish hedge that was growing too thinly. I also collected up all the spent foxglove tops. Those will be strewn along the stream bank in the vain hope of getting more to grow there. If I put in young plants, they grow, but rather grudgingly.😥

No rain in sight, and no granddaughter either, but DD is in the labour ward now, so something's likely to happen today. Mrs Dusty is visiting DD's home daily to help with the care of DGS. His other grandma is there, enjoying a good excuse to escape from London's stuffy heat! 😉

When I was at my friend's coastal garden last Friday, I took a quick snap of her annual / tender perennial display, used to bring a spot of colour to the washing line area. She's excelled herself this year:

All done with no greenhouse. The pelargoniums go in the garage in winter. 😇

Had to wash the car so I could see out of the windows. It was covered in dust from standing for 6 weeks. It wasn't a choice 🙂 I take the bucket around on my trolley. Saves a lot of energy.

Another hot one already with no breeze 😬 and yes getting around just fine, one crutch in supermarkets and town because people just don't know or care where they are going.

I need to water , just too tired last night. But it is the tiredness. Think it's as much the constant heat night and day. A lot of cutting back needs doing but is out of the question because of the sun. It's still registering 35c in my garden.

I was happy to see that the moors still have grass for the wildlife. It's cooler up there and may have got some moisture at sometime.

NEWSFLASH: Healthy DGD born at 08.30. She's 4lb 5oz in old money, hence DD receiving some extra care, but all seems well. 😀

Hot again for rest of week, blue skies & sun, but maybe rain for weekend?

Up and about early, couldn't sleep, not enthusiasm. Decided to crack on with apple pruning while still cool. I managed to get another one & a half trees done before back said NO!. The remaining branches need my long handled loppers to reach them, as does the buddleia.But no rain for a few days, so time enough

By coincidence I saw MD on GW was pruning his apples as well

Also on GW, the lady that uses her feet, she was picking, with her feet, rhubarb, but mentioned how she cooks it with fig leaves, which is news to me, I never knew fig leaves were useful as flavouring, sort of figgy coconut she said. DYOR but it may help us fig folks. I have some rhubarb ready, so will check & maybe try it

Picked more blackberries while out there, now in freezer until apples are ready. The unknown volunteer thorn-less blackberry, taste tested this morning. from my tasting It's not Merton or Thorn free, maybe a cross? Looks like a very good cropper

That's great news dusty! I wouldn't delete it. We could all do with some good productive news these days. A short off topic never did anyone any harm. And it is about growing things 😊

Farway, alongside the blackberries I found a new briar growing. Looked like unripe blackberries but were pinky red and taste a bit like strawberries.

Or raspberry cross blackberry?

Delicious but not enough to make jam on their own. If they make it that far 😉

I'm not the best biologist, but I think she may have 'germinated' just under 9 months ago, give or take a week. 🤔 It was a surprise as the last err….germination fruiting…. was only14 months ago, and that needed some special propagation techniques from the RHS NHS. 😉

So, now Mum has two close together, which might be fun/useful later on, but may keep her well-occupied in the immediate future. She's not one to sit about, fortunately. 😇

In other news, I received about 2 hours notice our hay was to be cut today, 😮 so hurried down to clear the access. This meant lopping a few limbs off a self seeded willow which always grows over. Doing this, I was verbally threatened and abused by one of the unhinged neighbours, who still doesn't know what a right of way involves. He also accused me of poisoning the trees he planted, claiming he saw me spraying them. Shades of 2023/24, but now I take no notice of his BS. One young tree is dead, the other is dying, but it's a toss up whether the cause is honey fungus, rife in that verge, or neglect in two dry summers. No one has watered the poor wee things.

Having the grass cut for haylage (like silage) is such a relief. The sheep overstayed, and then it was dry, so the result was too seedy for proper hay.😰 Our partner farmer's tractor caught fire and was destroyed, so he's had to hire someone. They've done a good job so far, even if the driver looked about 16. Well, they all do these days!

Some wildflowers still in there. Not too many docks!
