Awful weather - typical Brits talk

Morning all :)
Damp and miserable and grey and lifeless here. It's not raining, but it's as wet and murky as it can be without actually raining. I'm ready for a change now, I'm heart sick of this weather. Can we have the cold+sunny+dry setting back again? The weather man on the news last night said that Aberdeen/shire has had 150% of it's usual Feb rainfall total already 😕 Poor souls. And there's nothing but more of the same for you suvveners. Does as wet a Sxxxxg as this foretell a hot Summer?
I'm gonna have to look up Daphne care Dusty. I've got one but it's never looked as happy as that 😒
I've tried all sorts re snowdrop bulbs Farway, I even made little cages out of chicken wire to plant them in but the bastuds still got them 😥
Thanks for asking Less about those wee flowers taff, you reminded me I forgot to do it! I like the look of them as they are - they look like daisies coloured in wrong 😊
Hard few days at work. People are so angry now, and I don't think it's just with us. I nipped to the shop for eggs when I finished work and a woman was taking the face off the till girl. Woman had lifted the wrong thing and was demanding the shop honour the price cut that's on a similar product. I put the eggs back and left them to it. What's the matter with people?

Quick update (weather and gardening/botany!) - I went to look at the aconite - sun is, miraculously, and contra forecast, out intermittently at the moment - flowers not yet open, but I realised that the green bits beneath the buds which I said were leaves I should of course have called bracts…😊

Having another go this morning and keeping things simple.🙃 Again, I'll say, "Welcome back!" to WM and "That was a blimmin' good photo of the egret,2p. 😇
Not much has happened at Dusty Acres in the past 24 hours, apart from the installation of a new printer. Yes, I failed to revive the other one 😞, but after about 8 years, and it being a Freecycle gift, I've nothing to complain about. Like 2p said, it carried on raining in this area for most of the time yesterday, and despite some blue sky, it's been bucketing again this morning.
Yesterday, to relieve the tedium, I planted a few seeds of the very early Sungold tomato which matured ahead of all the rest in '25, just in case I've captured a useful gene. They won't necessarily come true, but I'll set my sights on June and see what happens. All the rest will be planted at the end of the month, or later if it turns cold. I don't believe it will now. Once the winter pattern is set…. A few chilli seeds also found their way into the propagator. Again, these were ones I'd saved, but the rest will follow soon, thanks to the long growing season.
Last Wednesday at Rosemoor seems a long way off now. Given the continued downpours, it was a much-needed couple of hours respite from the squelchiness at home. I may have mentioned the RHS has re-vamped the top of the Winter Garden, but the lower part remains almost untouched. I don't think there are plans to change it significantly, as the birches look so good.
Birches also come into their own in the stream garden. Soon, It will be a mass of spring flowers. Right now, it's the trees which catch the eye.
Right, I've saved this. Now to post…..🤐

People are stressed. Even the 'unaware' know something isn't right. Everything they trusted, or half-trusted, seems corrupt and fake. The secure world they inhabited has begun to crumble, and now AI is knocking at the door of their workplaces….
Time to get an allotment and start growing, eh?

There must be something in the air Dusty 🙂 I was thinking yesterday of planting tomatoes. I've bought 2 lots of English vine tomatoes at huge expense and they taste of nothing! I'm going to have to find a way of growing them early. I only need a few for sandwiches in winter.
Same with salad which they say must be planted in autumn but that's based on the old weather pattern. Nothing else much to do outside so it's worth a go.
Looks like Rosemore is easy to walk around in the wet. Clever thinking on their part. Also been thinking along those lines with my garden if the lawn is too wet or burned dry. Though I already despair of the front gardens around here that have been tarmacked over in the name of eco cars 😏
Bluey it's the same around here. The hairdresser was in a foul mood again and scalped me. At least it's easy to get my woolly hat on now 😄 everyone is grumpy and selfish.
Less the aconites are just coming into leaf around here. I only noticed because of your mention.
Dark and wet here. Bucketing down then spells of bright but around 10c so just catching up on jobs and tidying because you can't see much inside and don't want to go out.

Wet again here, like YBE said, "Damp and miserable and grey and lifeless here. It's not raining, but it's as wet and murky as it can be without actually raining. I'm ready for a change now, I'm heart sick of this weather."
Oooh, seed sowing, you're right, must be something in the air, my mind wondered off yesterday to maybe sow some toms on the off chance. Only one or two, just in case, you know how it is, glances at tom packets & checks spread sheet
Right, I'm going to sow a couple of Bajaja, new to me, from flea bay this year. . Link for ID only and was not the supplier
Chosen this variety 'cos it's fresh seed & should grow on window sill for a bit, I hope.
Like the Rosemoor pics, birches are lovely if you have room.
Angry people, very noticeable lately, weather doesn't help. I'm in a photo group on FB, and it seems double the nastiness than normal FB, some folk just seem to be nasty above & beyond normal rage.
I did have to laugh though, someone asked what Rage Bait was, one response was "don't be lazy, look it up for your self" which triggered the OP 🤬, who had completely missed the finely honed jokey response. 😁
Conspiracy warning, could it all be down to the Poles due to flip any time [century] now? Actually that's a good rabbit hole to go down if you have wet weekend spare😕
I have flowers out 😀, my first daff, it's too wet to poke lens out just yet

I'd forgotten about that Farway. It is interesting. Not sure about the flipping but the moving. But then there are several north poles.
It's a bit like the weather. The UK is unique in the world having 6 different weather systems. The link to the genuine site is on my laptop or you could try and look it up 😄
There we go though I think I got a bit muddled with how to make a link
I was thinking today that we were becoming a two weather system like the tropics. Wet and dry.
Been out between downpours taking some of the 'plums' off the tree and there's another blossom coming. At least that's nearer the time.
Also a first Iris Reticulata blooming in a pot. I would have posted a photo but when you've seen one you've seen them all 😉
I've also spread some chicken manure (still have the big boxes I bought on offer from Morries) because stuff is beginning to grow and the rain must have washed out a lot of the goodness from the soil.. By the time the pellets have softened and washed in it will be about time.
So much has clearly rotted including any flowers that dared to show their heads that there's going to need to be some goodly clearing up come a dry spell.
been looking at photos of the garden to remind me why I do it and to cheer me up so here's one, summer eh? Hard to remember it was ever with us.

Gosh Less, glad you told me they were bracts otherwise I would have taken you to task for inaccuracies [ I wouldn't have, I'm clueless!]
2p, glad you told me, I fancy some garden pron..and now I also need to know what the pom pom white flowers are..the atmosphere read is going to ave to wait until I have some brains to apply to it. mine's mush after the rain, it must be air osmosis…your summer pic is so lovely, I am jealous even though it's summer and not now..
I haven't seen any grumpies lately, but to be fair, I avoid other people like the plague so probably don't see much of it. I live in a very small social bubble, can't be doing with drama.
Those birches are quite fabulous aren't they? So stark.
You all starting your tomatoes makes me want to give mine a head start but I've got to get my propagator out for any chillies. I just want some bog-standard jalapeños this year, at least I eat those.
I have one flower on my pot of saxifrage. And the prostrate rosemary and the white rosemary continue to bloom…something cheery anyway.

And I spotted the first hints of yellow crocus (on the bank where I planted yellow, white and purple ones, imagining a lovely mix, not realising a) the different colours (at least the ones I have) flower consecutively, and b) it's a semi-shady bank, so the number of times the sun is actually shining on it enough for the flowers to open is extremely limited…🙄
Sowing bug struck here too earlier this week, have sown chillies, field beans (or baby broad beans, as I'm surprised they don't call them 😁) and onions, but no toms yet.
Agreed, lovely birches… Oh, and we had sun again for a time, as well as stair-rod showers…

You aren't the only one. I planted them each side of the front steps with the same result on the shady side 😄
Thought I'd dug them out but with true garden contrariness they are still there and the first to bloom 😵💫
Oh and found one tete a tete blooming too. That was a good result putting them en mass in the front garden. Mind when I see how many and all from many springs when I bought them for pots in the house is just how many pots I've bought 😊
Oh and I heard what I thought was a funny story. When they built an enclosure locally to contain beavers they put the wooden posts on the inside. Think about it. The beavers chewed through them in the first 2 weeks 😄
Now they are being released. There's going to be a few fence panels go down not to mention peoples garden trees.
