Back again, nothing happened yesterday, just gloomy wet weather and TV, but I'm up-to-date on GW with one BG to catchActually, I was updating my Family History stuff, found a skeleton, hubby of my second cousin, four times removed, was in Exeter clink for trial in 1881Luckily for him, he was acquitted, because the crime, which I know but won't say here 'cos it's s*x related, carried a life sentence, was death before, now it's two years. Times, they are a changing.A shaded sheep in my history flockI did have red rose out, but the winds have ruined it, I was intending to get a photo today, but it is gone.My idle hands have been tapping away with Gemini AI, 'cor blimey guv, it's magicThe only real bit here is my amaryllis photo, the rest is fakery AIAI removed the background, added a sunset, moth & beeThen turned it into oil painting by TurnerNumerus non sum7

Weather - wet and/or windy since Sunday...managed to do a bit more apple pruning in dry but v windy spell, and had good sortout of woodshed, plus picked up tons of hazelnuts (not cobs or filberts - mine are all wild - will try for a photo at some point) brought down by weather - luckily squirrels seem to have more-or-less deserted us this year...Anyhow, popping in on subject of comfy boots. Having slavishly followed orthotist, etc, advice for years that I needed good ankle support (I have v arthritic deformed ankles - and have even had orthotic boots made, which were worse than useless), I discovered a year or two ago that I could walk distances much better in trainers than my walking boots, and upgraded this year to some walking shoes, which have served very well over a dry summer, on tracks and sometimes over rough hilltops. They are waterproof, but not in the same way boots could be in long grass or rain. Ignoring orthotist, I've always found wellies most comfortable in the garden (though not so much in hot sun!) . My trusty wellies (c. 50 years old, belonged to my mum originally!) have finally begun to leak, so on recent trip to local farm supplies shop I tried on several of the dealer-type boots (no laces, elasticated side-panel) - some I couldn't even get my foot in due to ankles, but found one pair, good fit, v comfy, now tested in garden (which has rough, sloping and uneven bits) and on one hill walk so far (which was mostly rough track, not much off-piste), plus one day out in a semi-urban setting. They were quite pricey, but no more than a good pair of walking boots and signs are good that they are multipurpose, so money saving too (OT
). Cheaper ones were available, but didn't fit, or feel so comfy, on my particular feet.... It's possible to get bespoke mini-gaiters for the brand I bought too, so hopeful these will get around the leaking-through-the-elasticated sides potential problem. Worth a try!?

Dusty that’s a pretty tree, I got my orthotics, due to having Morton’s neuromas. I’ve since had 2 ops, but still feels better with orthotics in my shoe.
2p I hope you got the rose pruning done, it’s been warm again here so did a few hours out the front chopping back shrubs, the hebe had gotten leggy. It’s looking like rain now and the winds picked up.
Farway it’s a worry what can be created by AI 🫣🐝 nothings sacred anymore.
Less that’s good going for wellies to last so long. Let’s hope your new boots are as good.Focus on contribution instead of the impressiveness of consumption to see the true beauty in people.7 -
Less, you could make your own gaiters.
We bought some simple ones for £10 in Borneo as ' leach gaiters' load of old cobblers but we weren't exactly in a position to make them. However I did when I got home.
Arthritic ankles sounds horrible 😐
Wort I didn't get the rose done. Neighbours son otherside came and parked right where I needed followed by her cleaner 😕
Had one of those stupid days where everything you try won't go to plan so nothing but some sorting out got done.
Still hopefully had all the carp in one day.
Weather very strange. There's one village that seems to have hot sunshine where all around is grey cloud and small showers.
Guess where I'll be tomorrow if it's the same 😉I can rise and shine - just not at the same time!

Arthritic ankles sounds horrible 😐Hmm, I am somewhat challenged in the making department (otherwise known as cackhanded) - I can sow on buttons and regularly mend bits of clothing, and have even made the odd pillowcase out of the good bits of worn-out sheets (odd being a good description), but gaiters sound a bit beyond my skills...
The (osteoarthritic) ankles are bad at times (getting up, end of a hard-walking/working day) but only sometimes; have been better than they were since I read about someone with arthritis who threw away his walking sticks (I was beginning to rely on mine c. 10 years ago) and did the same...Hope you get a better (and sunnier) day tomorrow7 -
Less, One rectangle of fabric, small hem at top and bottom, stitch up long side.
Thread elastic through top and bottom hems.
You won't win any fashion awards but your legs will be dry 😉
Yup, declared sunny tomorrow by the drunkards. I'm indoors till one 😬
Leg was better for 36hrs then I had an incident with a stool and sorting books on a top shelf that didn't want to stay there.
Looking at the grass it's time for a mow. Perhaps that's the time to see how I get on without a stick 😮
Interesting thought.

Morning folks 🌞
A bit of sun this morning and a pleasant 15c. Had a cup of tea sat in the garden first thing.
No sign of birds yet. Very strange. Wonder where they are 🤔
Grass defo needs cutting and the huge lavender that is blocking my way into the garage.
I cut it back once a few weeks ago to get the branches to shoot lower down which they hopefully have, so cut now tighter still.
Also the wall hydrangea and wisteria have grown apace and my sitooerie is more like a hideaway.
And the wisteria is blooming 😮
In fact everything is making up for lost time at the wrong time!
Strawberries in the lawn anyone?

Funny, I'm wanting to go back to the West country and Wales, Dusty. I'll swap you
We've been to Somerset, Devon, Cornwall and North Wales, but it was years ago. I keep saying to my DH that we should hire a motorhome and travel down South, once he's retired. We are inundated with motorhomes up here, so it would be a case of 'if you can't beat 'em, join 'em'...
Amazing AI pictures, Farway. I do wonder where it will all end though.
It seems there are a few of us with dodgy ankles, wort and Less. I gave up on my podiatrist because his advice was always to do more exercises, whereas I thought I needed orthotics, or at least a combination of both. He did say that I should wear supportive walking shoes, rather than trainers (I had the Skechers Arch Fit trainers at the time), so I did take his advice on that. I still suffer though, similar to Less, when I first stand up or after walking.
twopenny, your stool incident (sorry, that sounds a bit TMI) could have been nasty. Hope you're okay.
I think I've got all the birds here - still loads of sparrows, blackbirds, dunnocks, robins etc., although I witnessed a sparrowhawk kill yesterday underneath a neighbour's carI think it had caught a smallish crow, looking at the beak. I just hope it doesn't catch any of 'my' birds.
OT - it's grey and wet this morning, but looking nicer for this afternoon. Some workmen turned up unannounced just after 8am and they're currently making a racket at the front of the house. There's also a tree surgeon at the back of the house doing something noisy in a neighbour's garden...'A watched potato will never chit'...6 -
Morning Folks, nice & sunny and supposed to stay like it until Sunday, could be my chance to catch up on the garden bit
OK for me, on a desktop PC.twopenny said:Blimey the site is misbehaving this morning -or my tablet is 😐Reading about others aches and problems, I can at least put mine down to fair wear & tear, but I'm not binning my stick! I'm a Vera, veering sideways into borders etc, and use the stick to stop me wandering sideways, as well as propping me up.Making up for lost time 2P, that describes my outdoor toms, ripening well now, I picked another lot yesterday, I'm even thinking the word "Glut" !If this weather holds I hope to get out & remove old canes from the blackberry, plus some buddleia dead headingAnd DD wants some currant bushes, so I'll take some cuttings on the off chance, although young named ones are cheap enough when in the likes of Morries.I took a rose pic the other day, not the one I wanted, but it was out, and likely to be the last one this yearFirst is real life, second is a view from Rottery Acres once we settle in[AI again]
