That pine/fir cone is huge, Farway. Sorry, Less, I'm pretty sure it was you that gave us a lesson on pine and fir cones a while back and I've failed dismally to remember which is which.Love the roof and bum

Evening Less, getting a bit wild and windy out there now but as Bluey said, it's autumn weather.
Mind I'm usually going swimming in the sea in these weeks because it's still warm and pleasant.
Wonder if they've made the trip in double quick time with the wind behind them?I can rise and shine - just not at the same time!

This is why I complain about the moss on my roof, twopenny, it's all gone a bit mad. I'm not so sure about the insulation properties, I'm worried it acts like a big sponge.
Less, I didn't 'twig' from Farway's Spruce pic - it's a pine cone!!
I hope YBE gets clear skies - there's a BIG Aurora incoming over the next couple of nights, if the forecast is to be believed. Look up to the skies, folks
I thought I was going to get another Wordle in one this morning, but I was just one letter off. I always seem to do well with my guesses in the wee small hours (I've been awake since 3.30am).
Forecast is a bit rubbish for this week - lots of rain. However, the week after looks hopeful...'A watched potato will never chit'...7 -
Just seen this on the BBC website - looks like YBE is in the right place (if she's in the Lake District)..

Just checking in not caught up with posts.
I am now in week 3 of lurgy, mainly cough and tiredness now. Thanks for good wishes, and hope other lurgyites are feeling better soon.
Work has been busy and I am getting harassed over Xmas working ,really not in the mood for it and was feeling like carp anyway I wanted to tell them stick it where the sun don’t shine. And that’s not like me at all.Enjoy your week off YBE I have today to work then I’ve 6 days off . Bring it on.Focus on contribution instead of the impressiveness of consumption to see the true beauty in people.6 -
Oooo Wort. 6 days off in a row. That will make you feel much better 🙂
3 weeks lurg is not good.
Ooh Poppy, were you barking up the wrong tree? 😉
Still wet and windy and 9c. So no outside gardening.
Lots to do indoors though. The orchids have all bloomed at once wouldn't you know it
I can rise and shine - just not at the same time!

Sunny but quite windy, rain has cleared off for a well-earned break.pink_poppy said:Just seen this on the BBC website - looks like YBE is in the right place (if she's in the Lake District)..I think this time she is further south, bottom left handlandia, but I suppose it could be visible from there on a clear night.I'll look, but have never spotted it.Moss on roof, sign of clean air at least, no idea if good or bad, no doubt good for Eco but maybe not for buildings?Handy for hanging baskets though, a home-grown cottage industry, perhaps advertise on Etsy, free-range, organic Highland moss for saleWort, three week lurgy, not nice at all, hope you enjoy your break anyway2P, very nice orchids, I wonder if one encourages the other, like a ripe tomato gives off ripening gas?Catching up on GW, same old problem though, one garden shown was a mansion, with a garden to the horizon and complete with Head Gardener & gardening staff, hardly typicalI did like the lady with an allotment full of flowers, but I think they should have included how she grew them, sown in situ or what?Unlikely to get outside gardening today, still damp & my Tax return is beckoning. Mine is easy enough to fill in, nothing complex, just PIA to sit & do it.I know I could do it online, but I'm always wary about that, at least with paper I get to think, and double check itToday is the turn of a Lucifer seed podNumerus non sum7

twopenny said:Dusty that looks wonderful. Ready for birds and beasties. It must feel so good to have made something like that.pink_poppy said:
Lovely blue butterfly pics, Dusty, so delicate. I like your dappled sun through the trees too.Well, I like your calm Marina and rainbow sky through the trees. Not so sure about the seaweed that looks like something found in proximity to a sporran, or the mooning gull!
I'd guess the moss on the roof is OK, except perhaps if the water it traps freezes often, because freeze/thaw action could affect the tiles.

I am now in week 3 of lurgy, mainly cough and tiredness now. Thanks for good wishes, and hope other lurgyites are feeling better soon.Similarly, I can't tell you what Mrs Dusty and I do to ward off the bugs, but it's not complex or weird, and it's based on accepted science regarding more 'mature' people!
It's odd; I could probably say garlic preserved in real honey is a decent lurgy remedy, and that would pass, but I wouldn't. That's because careless home preservation can lead to botulism, which is far more dangerous than any intolerance to common supplements in recommended doses and known to your doctor.
Anyway, after that rant, I hope all of you 'under the weather' soon recover. As someone said, better weather's coming. The last time Mrs D and I had flu was 2018, and it was long and horrible; hence us researching how we might dodge a repeat. Sadly, complete protection isn't possible, and we still get a 3-day lurgy most years.
OK, Autumn Show next. These are some things we entered, laid out at home. That blimmin' succulent had to be submitted again, because Mrs D didn't say she planned to enter the Aeonium I chopped up!I think the judge probably recognised it and said "Not you, again!" It only received a 3rd prize after winning before, but there was a very elegant cactus that fully deserved a 1st.

LessImpecunious said: my post corrected from Dusty to Farway (I should have realised from the curly script...)No, there's nothing 'curly' about me; straight as a ruler.
Kim Jong-un comes to mind. That's the guy in 'Gangnam Style,' in case I've lost anyone there.
He's put on a bit of weight, but so have I since my heyday, whenever that was.I've just had a very healthy morning, though, thanks to my log supplier emailing to say, “Due to the number of cancellations today, your logs will be with you by lunchtime,”Roughly translated, that meant. "All the sensible people have seen the weather and called off delivery, but you seem daft enough to accept yours."This meant emptying the shed containing the remainder of last year's logs in double-quick time.Took an hour of frantic barrowing.
I'd just finished when his lovely partner turned-up and dropped her....Transit tipper load.
Two minutes later, the heavens opened, but by then I was already securing the tarpaulin, which was in one piece when I ran for cover, but may be ripped asunder by the 50mph gusts now rattling through the yard. It'll be what it'll be, as they say. I'm sure next weeks wonderful sunshine will put everything right.
Just say, "No!"7
