twopenny said:So cold last night the rain must have come straight from the artic! Came close to putting the heating on.We did! DD2 + husband + baby with the new house and no bathroom yet, came for showers, so we had to.Not sure about your cherry leaves, My seedlings in the woodland are like that, but that's because I gave them 'unalive medicine,' like I do every year, or they'd take over. Are they on your not very nice neighbour's side?Farway said:Ah, vine weevils, I may be right in my diagnoses ref my foxgloves. Hope your chemical remedy works. Given the cost of it. Way too dear to warrant use on my self sown foxgloves.I only use it on very susceptible potted plants. It takes a year to grow a Geranium nodosum from seed, so it's a crying shame to lose it for the 10ml of stuff needed to protect a 9cm pot. Most of our stuff has to take its chance, now we're no longer a nursery. Here's a bonus cloud picture I found after hurriedly posting the Cumulonimbus the other day. Might even be the same one.Healthy vibes for Bluey.
I didn't spot the lurgy info earlier. No comment on the Fishermen's Friends advice.

Wort, I used a water pistol at the start. I've used it for rutting pigeons on the roof, fighting cats etc and works a treat.
Good fun too. 😆
They no longer get in the garden, it's cat proofed apart from the front. She'd never pick it up when she passed.
Lovely clouds those were too Dusty. Now it's just grey.
When there's a break in the rain I'll give everything a feed. Bit late but I feel its the right thing.
Might treat myself to more cyclamen to go in the alley pots which are eternally dry and they should cope there.
Farway I think you've been in too long and are starting to think up trouble 🙂
Never ending domestic nonsense to do today.
Another one that thinks they have a touch of the lurgy 😵💫
I can rise and shine - just not at the same time!

Another one feeling lurgified here, but at least I'm not a miserable s0d with it, unlike my DH...
Love the photos, Dusty. I love hazelnuts (mmm, Topic... a hazelnut in every bite) and didn't realise that's what Filberts were.
Was it your central heating or stove that you put on?? I've been eyeing up our fire for the last few chilly nights.
That's a great photo, Farway and well done for getting it shown on your local weather report.
Fingers crossed for the Drs surgery, twopenny.
Hope your lurginess doesn't hang around.
I knew someone who's Dad was on the Piper Alpha when it went down, YBE, so not something I could watch
Hope you're feeling a wee bit better - if not, a hot toddy for your sore throat.
Poor Stinky, greenbee.
OT - it's pouring down.'A watched potato will never chit'...4 -

Mrs Dusty was due to go on a girls' day out today, but one had been with someone who's allegedly developed Covid, so it was cancelled.
Mrs D is due at the local hospital for a minor op on Friday, otherwise she'd probably have risked it. Instead, she's rounding up exhibits for the Autumn Show on Saturday. She won't be attending, but I can take her entries, so long as it doesn't involve any flower arranging nonsense!
Being lazy, it was just the CH we put on last night. It's far too early for the wood burner. We've had more sunshine and heavy showers today, but the first big downpour didn't occur until midday, so I'd just enough time to dig out a channel taking the stream away from Mr Canute's dam.No doubt he'll soon block it again, but at least there's a big hole for all the silt to collect in, and I've had another good work-out!
Here's a plant I never know what to do with when it grows too tall. This year, I've chopped it down completely and replanted the stump. I've also planted the four offshoots in gritty compost in a wide, but fairly shallow terracotta pan. All will come into the conservatory in the winter....if they survive the harsh treatment. If not, problem solved!

Managed not to take the face off Eco Worrier yesterday, and I won't today either for I'll go to work but sit in the spare interview room by myself and just get cracked on *cough* I really would be hazardous amongst people, well my sharp tongue wouldI had 2 hot toddys last night pp, I think they did me a power of good cos I slept better
I'll keep your good interrogation advice for when I'm back off hols gb, apart from today that's me done now 'til a week Monday. Is it wrong to say I'll relish the virtue-signalling over-bearing wretch squirming...? I think it might be how they're wiring da yoofs these days Farway, there was lots of nodding and 'oh good point' ing when they was on about toxins and free radicals etc.
Dusty I thought you were making a funny when you wrote cumulo nimbus under the pic of your van.
That's awful about your neighbour 2p, are you back to thinking of moving?OT it was windy and rainy yesterday evening and me hair hated it. Hopefully yours is quick growing 2p, it’s annoying when it won’t do as it’s toldForecast is same for today, they say, nice all day and rain early evening, possibly.
Shout out to people who don't know what the opposite of in is.5 -
Another day of not gardening! 9c and wet. Rain forecast for the foreseeable.
I feel I should have an automatic heading that only says 'extreem heat' or 'perpetual rain' 😬🌨️
So cleaning out jars and chutney with the excess tomatoes and making seems to be the closest.
Popping down to see if there's any apples put out by neighbours. Or I may use the first ever ones from my tree 😁

Lurgy almost passed. Hope everyone else is the same 🙂
The lovely thing about retirement is you can do the old fashioned thing of resting and keeping warm and stuff tends to get better quicker rather than having to plough on.
I'm getting lots of weed and thistles in my veg beds from the lovely compost I got so not as well done as he boasted but grateful all the same.
No dancing today methinks but who knows. It's all a maybe day today.
Bluey, I've got my eyes open but slowly getting jobs finished in the house. Nothing exciting on the market and inflated prices.
Got to be right as the location of this is just lovely.
I'm sleeping with windows closed which I hate . But the new car parked further back makes less noise.
I'm working on the premis that what's for you won't go past you.
I've watched several friends go through dealing with looking after grandchildren. Lovely while they're little, exhausting when they get older and bigger with minds of their own.I can rise and shine - just not at the same time!

Wet morning so far, it threw it down yesterday. Entirely my fault for moaning about watering again, sorry folks.Hope lurgies are clearing, or at least the hot toddies are flowing out there in Lurgyland.I like the aeonium Dusty, Monty D keeps on about them, and I've always fancied them but never grown them. They always strike me as one of those succulents that will grow from a leaf just left on the surface, like sedums & similar.Just looked them up, much same as the money plant [crassula] I grow, and I can grow those with ease, very tempted to try now, but not with winter coming on, unless one drops in my pocket.greenbee said:Farway - could the toms have come from compost?Which would be typical, struggle to cultivate some, while others grow like weeds. If they ripen, I'll save some bum smear seeds for next year.No gardening again, too soggy, plus volunteer meeting later today. I wonder if any toadstools are growing yet? Been right for them, and they do pop up at volunteer place. This is my solitary Sunset, now ripening, but small, due to the dry weather.I saw on BG about pruning fruit as Pillar, very tempted to try it on this Sunset because it is still young & formative.See how it grows come SpringNumerus non sum7

Dusty I thought you were making a funny when you wrote cumulo nimbus under the pic of your van.To be fair to Eco Worrier, I'd probably be more concerned if I'd come up as GenZ. Being an old duffer, I've seen how often the other 'they' have lied to us, and how all their well-intentioned resolutions and treaties have fared. With an economic think tank predicting the UK state pension will go bust by 2036, my concerns are somewhat different! But, yeah, free the radicals, and don't forget the sausages!

I'm working on the premis that what's for you won't go past you.Good news on the lurgy.Yes, your area has inflated prices. For about 6 months, I tried to find a house for people living here, who wanted to move up there. In that time, I found one property that looked good value, though it needed some plenty TLC. It didn't get away.
They spotted it on the same day as me.....and bought it!

Even Woolly Cat, who's been virtually feral and living in a cold frame for months, has deigned to come in at night now!Long ago, before all this wild weather, maybe Monday, Mrs D and I went butterfly hunting after spotting a Common Blue. Although not common here, we tracked one down on the lawn (of all places!) and Mrs Dusty got there first...I took a photo too.And then it put on a show for me by singing, "I'm looking Over A Four Leafed Clover" ....very quietly. Sadly, with my tinnitus, I couldn't quite hear all the words. With a very early start, I probably won't post tomorrow, but who knows?Just say, "No!"7 -
Look for the blues on ivy flowers Dusty. They love those.
I checked the weather forecast down your way just in case it was sunny on the Devon coast but I fear it's much the same as here.
Yes people have last years prices on properties when it went crazy and they don't seem to get that the downside of their house isn't going to bring the same as somewhere immaculate.
There's one that's ok but the garden slopes down at about one in 4 😮
Another it slopes up at the same angle but they've stuck a conservatory on but it's dug into mud and not Shoreditch up.
Good news this morning. Got a text saying I'd been accepted by a doctor's with a real live named doctor 😁😁😁😁😁😁😁
Got some lovely looking eating apples from outside a house down the road.
I went looking for walnuts there too but the road sweeper had been 😟 one trees been cut down but there's one more chance if I can walk there.
Bluey, how's a week off feel?I can rise and shine - just not at the same time!

I'm ready for a week off 2p. I really want this filthy lurgy shifted before we go away, I sound like a barking seal
That's a bu99er about your compost, but hooray for the lurgy lifting and free apples, and a big wooohooooo for getting a doctor :clapping: The house prices are the same round here - we're thinking of maybe moving but staying in the village and the prices are ridiculous. If our house was on the market now we couldn't afford it. I think people believe there's an Autumn Bounce and price accordingly but it ain't A Thing.
How did volunteer meeting go Farway? Did the trouble get resolved? I hope you find toadstools, I know they're only common but I still think they're a bit magical and fairytale-ish. Will solitary Sunset be all the sweeter for being compact do you think..? When you do bum smears with your new toms you should label them Shawshank variety and have everyone wondering where they can get someYou could sell the seeds for £1 each and get DGS car insurance. And a car. And us a Rottery Acres
I kept away from everyone yesterday Dusty so I don't know what the rage du jour was. That's a good point about GenZ's priorities and thinkings though... I imagine if I was a yoof now I possibly would be going on about the state of the place and how hoomans are ruining the planet entirely (which we are) and what could be done about it. Was it ever thus? Probably. I know I should be equally worried about them finishing raping the pension pot by 2036 as by bare-footed 10 year olds mining rare earth minerals with a teaspoon, but the former affects me more. For shame.
Anyway. I don't know which butterfly pic I like more - the first one looks like it's translucent, which is quite appealing, but the second looks so vibrant and detailedI wonder if he feels as fluffy as he looks.
How are all the lurgy-ites doing? And I include AnonymousDog in that, poor wee soul.
OT well they were technically right yesterday, it was sunny and lovely all day 'til about 1700, when it started raining. They didn't say it would be heavens-split-open type rain with thunder and lightning and lots of liveliness. It was ever so good. Then a rainbow came out after it had passed and I got a pic. Actually I was sure I could see a double rainbow but that might have been my drugged-up computer-wrecked eyes. I also went past compostbag carparkii and got another pic, it seems to be 'fruiting'.. well it's doing something different
Today is sunny and lovely right up until it rains, which may or may not be around 1400 or early evening, if at all, possibly. It was cold when I got up this morning, the Feels Like was 4'cShout out to people who don't know what the opposite of in is.6
