pink_poppy said:OT - we're due sun today (where's that wee convertible when you need it) and up to 21 degrees. We're due 30c, say the sots, but that never happens. It's been comfortable overnight, as usual, and we might be up for 27c, but whatever, I'm killing laurels today at DD2's house.
The house itself is coming along OK, but DD has had to spend several half days on the phone, trying to correct an error the DWP has made, making her a non-person.
Her painting is therefore behind schedule, and the carpet man cometh!
Meanwhile, SiL is behind in the bathroom, having found the corners are not square.
This 'slippage' is old hat to us seasoned DIYers, but not to the youngsters, who expected to have upstairs 'done' by now!
GC 3 is fine. He travels without grumbling, possesses a cheerful disposition and sleeps well....which helps! Mum's aware, expectations now, and routine, will make one heck of a difference later!GC 2 is 5. I know, where did those years go.? It doesn't seem that long since we travelled up to the Forest of Dean to meet him, socially distanced, of course!Congrats on the 2 interviews. Always good to have a Plan B.I agree with what you and Bluey say about the probate house. 'Something' can suddenly pop up. This one did. If it hadn't.....err... I don't want to go there!YoungBlueEyes said:Is that the DGC who was chuckling away to himself about Chaos Theory a wee while ago...? I'm envious of your tip btw, you can't buy stuff at ours. Well you can....but the prices are hellish toppy.. . I tell ya now, I'm getting a million miles out of my Swift, you watch
So the left/right bed thing Dusty, is that from in the bed or standing at the bottom looking at it perspective?Down yer, in Middle Earth Devon, most of us ain't got much money, despite the gentrification. We purchased a good high chair and a pushchair from the recycling bit for £20, but a Honda lawnmower for £10 beats that! Saw a similar one on the Bay for over £300.
I shall have to buy a better car than I would otherwise when the van goes. It'll likely need to last longer than the jalopies I tend to pick, around the £2k mark. That's if the gubmint let me continue driving, and I don't fail their impending eyesight and demonshia tests!I notice they don't have plans for the age group that has the most accidents.
I'd think left and right with a bed would be as viewed from being in it. Anyway, I'm doomed. A heterowhatsit man always sleeps on the door side of the bed to protect his female partner from mad axemenpersons, zombies etc, doesn't he? A bit of grumpiness is a small price to pay for that!I've done the OT, so here are some penguins made yesterday by the GC with Mrs Dusty. And here's little and large!"Everything's just f.....ine!"6 -

Less, I remember reading a cloud identification report on the BBC website, but I've just had a wee search and can't find it now.I am re-reading The Cloudspotter's Guide, and have downloaded the Cloud Appreciation Society's app, main problem is that there often seem to be a whole mix of clouds about at any one time...Good websites are the Met Office's (https://weather.metoffice.gov.uk/learn-about/weather/types-of-weather/clouds - that may have been linked from Beeb during their previous relationship) and the International Cloud Atlas (https://cloudatlas.wmo.int/en/home.html).
Your weather does seem very odd 2P, surprised you're not getting your own localised amber weather warnings for heat!

I don't think I'll get the job I would prefer, but I wouldn't mind the second one either. I'm being realistic here, not pessimistic/defeatist. I'll still do my best to impress at both interviews
Probate had only just been applied for when my DD and then her Mortgage Advisor pushed for an answer from the EAThe MA suggested my DD keep looking at houses and not to pay for surveys yet, just as YBE had advised (thank you).
That's really not much rain, twopenny
Love the penguins, Dusty, very creative. And Lulu will be very proud of those toms
I'll have a look at those cloud websites, Less, and the app - I do appreciate a good cloud'A watched potato will never chit'...6 -
Sunny & breezy, maybe get to 80F, but who knows?Back is well on the mend now
, been 24 hours without substance abuse, taking Para!!!! And stopped oinkment application.
Even managed to prune / dead head some buddleias yesterday, it's garden wheelie bin day today so wanted to start afresh with an empty bin, still got the pear to prune over the next few days, back willingPicked three carrier bags of apples in yesterday's sunshine. Still some left on the tree, plus some windfalls to collect.
The other trees are not yet ripe, and some of those apples are what supermarkets call "Fun size" with the heat & dry, just not grown biggly.Perhaps packed with concentrated flavour? Or dry as a Witches ***Used some apples & blackberries in a crumble made this morning.I'll stew & freeze the rest over the coming week or so, lots of freezer space.LessImpecunious said:My secret is the special ingredient recommended on here by, I think 2P, for greening lawns; though I've been using that on the cucumbers (I emphasise on the compost in the pots, not the fruits themselves
) more than the toms - they always seem to run out of steam first.... Greenhouse is such a jungle this year that I have been able to utilise a bucket kept in the greenhouse with no danger of being observed...
YoungBlueEyes said:Ooh 2 interviews pp, be careful what you wish for cos it sounds like you're in danger of becoming employed! Is there one you'd rather have or are they both good...? Re your convertible, I think what you actually need is a wee plane. Then you can do trips over that whirlpool and be a squillionairess by xmas :nodding: Ooh a boat-plane thing so you can do whirlpool and loch! :nodding:
Well I survived the fallout yesterday which was surprisingly quick and painless. We were all ready in Office Micro Manager's office for a set-to when Big Boss Man stuck his head round the door looking for OMM and said "is this about that thing last week? Have you not got anything better to do?!" So I silently left. That'll improve things between me and OMM, I'm sureI was a bit worried about it tbh but in the end I never got a word out. I don't know if I'm relieved or disappointed
YBE, good you're still employed, or at least able to time your departure to your requirements. It's Before Covid when I last went to local tip, their useful junk store was reasonable prices from what I saw, except the Council Compost which is rip offCan't recall if I mentioned, but years back, I bought, for pennies, a carrier bag full of very good, known brand, quality dinosaursOnce cleaned & purged, they have given five GC endless pleasure when visiting.Once the Rottery comes in, can the wee plane be a tad larger & get a PBY Catalina, https://pbycatalina.com/pby-6/ so I can fulfil childhood anti U boat patrols off the Western Approaches? Just asking, pretty please.I did see one at Farnborough air show some years back, and a Vulcan. Dreams can come true if you wait long enough, like pearsMy toms remain a disgrace, but I do have some cherry plum type developing, still green though.Must have missed some, but time's pressing. Here's my sole surviving Kong coleus, from seed

Ooh, we went to see a Catalina do a fly-past last year, Farway. And a Vulcan flew over our last house years ago, I think it had been to Sunderland Airshow. We also sometimes see a sea plane scooting over the loch.
I'll swap you some of my lovely ripe toms for some of your homegrown apple & blackberry crumble. Yum.
What happened to the rest of your Kong Coleus?? Were they the plants that got dropped in the conservatory??'A watched potato will never chit'...5 -

What happened to the rest of your Kong Coleus?? Were they the plants that got dropped in the conservatory??Yes, that was them. They were doomed from the moment I opened the packet, seeds come in a little tube, only about six, like dustSome vanished as I sowed them, just vanished in the carpy compost cracks. Those that germinated, some started conversing in Norwegian and off North they wentMoved out to harden up, knocked on floor, and this is the survivorNot too impressed by its colouring so far, but I may take cuttings and see how it goes overwinter, but I suspect they have a Death GeneIf I find an offer of seeds again, I may just give it a go, or perhaps spot a reduced plant and go for cuttings

Have a photograph or two.........my leg/back whatever is playing up and it's hot out there so just browsingThe other day leg was working and I went for a walk by a small river and came across a host of butterflies. As luck would have it I had the camera too. There was a silver washed Fritillery and Ringlet too. I had an hour of pleasure. Can't take anyone with me because they would be bored but I loved watching and the two Peacocks on one flower was a winner. To keep it on topic this turned up in my garden and wasn't shy :-)
Bluey, the pottery is hand made locally, the cat is called Pebbles because there are an awful lot of stones and gravel in the garden and when I saw the mouse in another pottery, well it had to be done 😉31c in the back this morning but prepared for the hottest part foil blankets are over the glass. There's a lovely cool breeze too and of course the nights draw in now so it's cooler.......... not sleeping well with one thing or another. No rain for so long it's stuffed up noses because it's so dry.Watering tonight - againI can rise and shine - just not at the same time!
viral kindness .....kindness is contageous pass it on

I'm back from my foray over to DD2's, where the car did indeed register 30c, but only 28c in the shade. We did a deal; she took the GC to the beach in exchange for me chainsawing and poisoning the last of their unwanted laurels. It wasn't that good a bargain, though. I'm home first, so now I have to cook!I never go to DD's without stuffing some of their plants/belongings into the car. Today, I said "Au revoir" to an acer, a lemon balm and a chilli I'll never need to water again!
This is the chilli they I successfully overwintered in the polytunnel.
No sign of mine producing anything yet.EDIT: Ooo, lovely photos 2p especially the dragonflies.I wouldn't have been bored at all!

Our generation missed the dinosaur craze, which seems to have been long-lasting. I suppose they replace the model soldiers and guns we explored the more bloodthirsty side of our nature with...and without the danger of un-PC undertones.

Kong Coleus conversing in Norwegian
Lovely photos, twopenny, especially the last oneWe'd all come with you - I don't think any of us on here would get bored
Have you thought about getting a humidifier for your stuffy nose??
Scotch Bonnet chilli, Dusty - some like it hot
My kids were the Teletubbies era - I remember queuing outside Argos at the crack of dawn one Christmas to get my hands on one...
It's turned very warm this afternoon and I'm already falling asleep...'A watched potato will never chit'...4
