Well I can laugh about it now, but my god I was angry last night. I tell ya, if he comes home tonight with more chocolates he'll be sleeping in his car.I removed the shell from my racing snail, but now it's more sluggish than ever.6

Makes mental note never to get on the wrong side of YBE... *throat-punched*
Oompa Loompa was very funny - the TB earwax is most definitely that colour.
Lovely pics and quips, Less
Dusty, definitely not Ozzy, although the dark one I'm not seeing is from Oz, funnily enough.
Happy November everyone - how did that happen?! This year has absolutely flown by.
It doesn't look too bad outside - a bit cloudy, but there's some brightness too.'A watched potato will never chit'...4 -

I like your pictures Less, the first one looks like somewhere you could just sit a long while, and a good Duck BumThat's a concentrating dawg you've got there
What's the round thing at the bottom of the pic? Looks like a frozen disc out of a birdbath? Matches your frosty-looking grass
...Halloween flowers - what d'ya call those things that are orange coloured, papery, hollow and about the size of a pingpong ball?It was a very restful place to sit, far from the madding crowds, not that there are many of them around here... Sorry the egrets and bums were so distant - takes me so long to post and upload photos that I neglected any attempt at editing...The dog is concentrating on a (red) frisby - her fave thing (apart from snacks) - no frost - just taken with the night vision option on the phone c. 6pm yesterday evening, and still around 10 or 11 degrees, much as it had been all day...The plant you're thinking of I know as Chinese lanterns, its one of those not-syphilis species...

Were you beside the seasiiiide, beside the sea?

Anyway. OT It's 11' and a bit sunny-ish out there now, high of 16' to come - which will be the overnight temp in Amritsar tonight. Not by the sea, and not where I live, but we've been visiting it since the 1980s.Orange papery flowers? Possibly Physalis of one sort. or another?https://www.rhs.org.uk/plants/12872/physalis-alkekengi/detailsHappy Diwali, in Amritsar, Aberdeen or wherever people are today!Yes, Less, it was me, rabbiting-on about egrets earlier this year. Ironically, I've seen more kingfishers than egrets since then, but they're easy to confuse with seagulls when driving along and spotting them in wet fields. Lovely views in your area! Not Ozzy, but from Oz, pp? I'll need to do more DuckDucking....Meanwhile, to lighten the mood, here's some CluckClucking.
Weather: dull, calm, mild, dry, same as yesterday. I'll take it!"There is no such thing as a low-energy rich country." Dr Chris Martenson. Peak Prosperity8 -
Dull & grey, dry still. Same as Dusty'sI'm a bit late because after application of TB I was off to get my hooves done, then mooch round Morries, rubbish GC area was even worse than normal, I expect it'll be full of Chrimbo tree & wreaths soonFound a huge curly fungus on verge opposite me, photo once I've sorted it outDon't you just love spill chuckersLessImpecunious said:The plant you're thinking of I know as Chinese lanterns, its one of those not-syphilis species...pink_poppy said:So, do we think Farway is of Vulcan blood then?? I'm sure Spock had green blood.
Lovely honeysuckle photo - is it white or pale pink?? I've never seen one that colour before. It's white, one that just popped up behind my Dalek bin, no scent I could detect but maybe if it had sunshine? I may have to take care of it as people seem to like it, could it be my passport to Rottery Acres?YoungBlueEyes said:I picture Farway as tall and skinny so yeah I reckon he could be Spock. Although depending how far the TB cream smeared itself maybe oompa loompa would be more accurate this morningToby Carvery is worth a visit if you have one near you. Best way to describe it is properly cooked pub grub in a weathersppons (or something) setting. As for the smell of lamb - it's the same as that greasy yacky coating you get on the roof of your mouth when you've eaten it, but on steroids. It smells far worse than fish, second only to rabbit imo.
Definitely a Scorpio (we do all have that streak in us, eh 2p) Himself came home last night with a box of Ferrero Rochers cos he actually thought I'd eaten all the Guylian ones (?!) I pointed out his error *ahem* and after he said some words and I used a bit of bad language, he topped it off with "I don't know what you're so upset about, you're not even a proper diabetic!"
Christ I could've throat-punched him.
Years since I ate in a Toby, like them though, and I like lamb cooking smell as well, and lamb dripping too, so therePS, also like Ferro R choc if any going spareI'm bound to have missed some posts but I have read themThis pic is my self sown Shoo fly, taken yesterday & showing just how it has grown & loves it in it's chosen spot. Now, if only the easy to grow, allegedly, Love in Mist, grew like semi tropical Shoo flies.Eight out of ten owners who expressed a preference said their cats preferred other peoples gardens7 -
Ooh, looking forward to the curly fungus pic.
Spookily enough, I came on here to share my pic of the fairy ring that's appeared in my garden. Taken from upstairs window, which was quite a feat considering my dizziness...
I'm sure there's a scientific reason why they form a ring, but I do find them whimsical.'A watched potato will never chit'...8 -
YBE not beside the seaside ,unfortunately, just a farm shop type place. Lovely food though and always packed out, so you need to book.

I’m hoping for a nicer weekend, it’s still grey and damp at the moment, and of course I was wide awake at 5 am on my day off.Focus on contribution instead of the impressiveness of consumption to see the true beauty in people.5 -

Same as Dusty'sYears since I ate in a Toby, like them though, and I like lamb cooking smell as well, and lamb dripping too, so thereStill grey here, but dry, and no nasties predicted for the week ahead. The wind's coming from the east today, so I'm glad I had a big conflagration yesterday, clearing all the brash from tree cutting so far. We wouldn't want our lovely neighbours upset by smoke.Don't think I've been to a Toby, but I remember thinking how sophisticated I was, taking young ladies to dine at Berni Inns back in the early 70s!Lamb is something I never cared for, until we came here and began overwintering sheep. The meat we receive from that is in a different league, large amounts of fat not being present. We did a couple of shoulders last weekend in the slow cooker, and I didn't think the smell from that, unpleasant. There wasn't a scrap left, so no shepherd's pie!The fairy rings are just the extent of the underground roots, pp, which vary according to age and type of fungi. I'd guess fruiting at the extremities is the best way for the fungus to spread itself and survive. I wish our mushrooms were that prolific!wort said:Dusty the stacked birds look like Nick Parks animation style.
When I spotted them, roughly a minute into our visit, I thought, ”That's familiar!” I doubt it's him, though. If it is, they'll be pricey!
There are no descriptors on the art works yet, or prices. The sculpture stuff isn't officially 'open' until 9th November.
Today's photo is for WM. It's mistletoe I spotted on an apple tree in the Cottage Garden area of Rosemoor. The light was going by then, but a few berries are just about visible.

Another dull, dry & grey morning, only likely gardening will be catching up on GW later todayLove the fairy rings PP, and well done overcoming the dizziness to get the shot, true dedication to your craft.I always look for rings, but have only ever found one real complete one.Aren't you supposed to sit in the middle and let moonbeams shine on you or something?Think I'm confusing folk lore with a mucky schoolboy joke, punchline is his bum falls off when he gets upHere's my curly one, sniggerHorticultural DGD tells me it's a funnel one, and Google agrees, so that's what I've called it.
