So you got a proper sunset, Bluey? Lucky you! Smashing series of photos.
You don't need Photoshop when you have mood lighting by the sun.
YoungBlueEyes said:Beloved Cousin last night, she has a Kia Ceed, she said she'd never drive anything else again (unless someone gave her one of those new big Defender things). Her last car was a Volvo C30 and this is the better car in her opinion. Have you decided about the sharp raspberry Raspberry pink Picanto?
How will you pick which trees face the chop Dusty? No grass cutting here, it's all far too wet out there still. We've had no rain for days but it just isn't going anywhere *shrug* You all ready for bonfire night..?I've driven a Defender. If you don't need one, I'd say forget it as a main mode of transport! It was one of the old sort, mind.
The C30 (based on the Ford Focus) is a pretty car, but the Ceed is more practical. My walking friend has a Focus-sized Kia. She isn't interested in cars, but likes how it handles B roads and MoTs.
Picking the trees to chop is easy enough. They're the ones which are crowding nicer or rarer trees, or they might become so big, dropping them in another year or two would create problems.I may have shown this subject before, but this is a new photo featuring the bench at Rosemoor which is part of their Lichen Trail. Not many people are lichen sitting on it in the damp weather, but it seems appropriate for another Larry Grayson day!

I see what you did there and I'ma lichen it
Nah she doesn't need one, she just likes them. Mind she made me promise a few years ago that if I ever won the rottery I'd buy her a white Evoque
I removed the shell from my racing snail, but now it's more sluggish than ever.7 -
Good to know about dahlia tubers, but unfortunately, I don't have any dahlias...yet...I do like all the ecclesiatical ones though..next year..No allotment yesterday, plumber came instead but now we have a shower screen and working radiators, so yay. I'll have some breakfast and get down there after that with my shower screen cardboard which is already earmarked to make another couple of beds with some juducoious placing of stones. I think I'm becoming obsessed. It's all I think about. Ah well, there are worse things. I might even take a picture today. My ankle is on and off, got injected in it the beginning of the year, pain free for months, was bloody marvellous, now though an op is the only option and I'm not down with that yet so it'll be recurring, so forgive me if I bang on about it sometimes
and so that brings me to your knee Farway, is it better? Can you hobble to take illicit cuttings?
oh ybe, now I want to find out his phone nuber so I can tell him to buy you chocolates so I can see the fallout...is that really wrong?2P, would a chiminea work or a fire pit thingy? You could be sipping hot chocolately marshmallows wrapped in a blanket watching the flames which all sounds lovely until the wind changes direction and you get a face full of smoke. I love the idea of outside fires but the reality sometimes falls short...although a very tall chiminea might be good. And good god, look at them tomatoes! I think she has more there than I grew entirely this year in a proper greehouse...she has some serious green fingers. Also good to see you're a member of the sneaky fortifying nips birgadeHooray for merely swaying now pp...Beautiful pictures ybe, never really thought about the colour change before, which might explain why catalogue stuff always looks a different colour...Non me fac calcitrare tuum culi7 -
Changing light can make a mundane thing beautiful. I may try and sort out an example as gardening or clearing is still a non starter at the mo.I'll start by posting on the motor thread to see if there's any comment to add to what you kind and helpful folks have said here. Then I'd best get down there and see if it's still in. Swim, lunch TTennis and it will be dark. I try not to think about what I'd prefer to do in the garden and just hope I can get to eventually.Always remember that the days start to get brighter in just 2mts (solstice). Days longer shortly after that.Poppy look on this time as one of rest and beauty sleep. We all just keep going these days and forget to rest and recharge.Hmmmm Taff, chiminea is an idea. Perhaps outside the patio doors with the door open?
I saw a mini one for candles - remember last year everyone was advocating candles in a flower pot to warm a room?
I can rise and shine - just not at the same time!

More dull & grey, but a wind has come along, so the murk mist has gone. Not a pleasant day to do much more than sit about, dreaming of Spring. No log fires here, Gas CH & fake coal electric fire if I feel rich.Lots of posts to catch up on, shame clever DGD is not nearer Dusty. With her certified chain saw skill, she'd have those trees down in a flash. Well, actually, she'd probably draw a pretty plan of how it could look on completion.twopenny said:Thanks for the key idea Farway, hadn't thought about that seeing as I still use the manual ones. Another thing where the labour saving invention (how hard is it to insert and turn a key?) makes more problems. And spare wheel thing. Not sure any cars have those now I've been told.Depends on car, some older ones, like mine, are electric locks but also have manual option, belt & braces.Trouble is, the key sometimes has a magic chip embedded which mates with a sensor in the ignition lock. And that is where the £s clock up.Spare wheels, as Dusty says, easy enough to get one, I paid £20 from my local scrapyard Main Parts Dealer for one, including the tyre. Cheaper than buying a tyre to replace my punctured one, daft, ain't it?I mentioned spare because some are not in the boot, but stored under the car, and may be missing without you realising until one wet & stormy night at the roadside.Tomatoes still going outside, amazing, I have two ripe Yellow Balcony in my conservatory, and now I have to get a picture laterHave to agree, again, with Dusty, do what works for you, which is one reason I get on offer seeds, never know which are going to do well for you until tried. And even then it can be season dependant, long & hot or dull & damp?Cracking Pics, YBE, nothing like that here, I have a rose but not as good as your oneHope everyone's ailments are easing, and it's not Covid PP, what a PIA. My knee is slowly mending, I rub TB in the hurty bit every morning, so still leaving an embrocation scent trail behind me.-taff said:Good to know about dahlia tubers, but unfortunately, I don't have any dahlias...yet...I do like all the ecclesiatical ones though..next year..His children grow & flower OK from seed sown in Spring. Hit & miss on colours, probably depends on the Actress he met
, but generally work well. I've seen seeds on offer at times, and I seem to remember Dusty is trying them from seed next year.
One I have is still flowering, but foliage is not a deep red as the parent, more mucky brown / green.twopenny said:Hmmmm Taff, chiminea is an idea. Please, please go into an iron mongers and get the Fork Handles gag goingYes, Dusty is trying the progeny of the naughty bishops next year. With named varieties at about £6.50 I'm switching to cheaper slug food.I have an hilarious birthday card that older readers here (and some youthful ones) might appreciate, but I dare not show it. Maybe on a weekend.Would your DGD be willing to climb? My chainsaw skills are OK, and I'm adept now at tying trees to the ride-on or the van to prevent wayward falling, but it's the aerial acrobatics that let me down.Edit: 2p, I've just returned from the orchard. Our fieldfares have arrived."There is no such thing as a low-energy rich country." Dr Chris Martenson. Peak Prosperity7 -
My contribution to the flowering out of season thread - though perhaps for a different reason than others - Vallota Lily which was placed outside for the summer and eaten to the ground by a passing rabbit (makes a change from slugs, though they seem to be nibbling at the buds now...

so just an old fashioned cold then. Still feel as rough as a badger's though...
You live in a very swish place, YBE - what a lovely view. It looks like a castle or church with flag flying?? Or is it the old school?? The photos are gorgeous - beautiful colours in the sunset and rose
The dizzy tablets really only masked the vertigo symptoms, although I still felt dizzy, it was more the nausea that they helped with. I didn't take any yesterday as I really needed paracetamol for the headache from hell and I wasn't sure if I could mix and match. Same today and tbh I don't think I'll bother with the dizzy pills unless I suffer a relapse. Definitely needing paracetamol though.
I'm guessing you'll keep the felled trees for future log burning, Dusty?? What trees are they?? We can still only get hold of larch or oak here, or spruce if we're really desperate. There'll be no more admiring the autumn colours of the cherry tree down the road this year - there are workmen currently butchering giving it a hard pruneit needed doing as it was a bit lop-sided and I suppose I do get a slightly better view now.
I'm thinking of trying bush tomato plants next year - any recommendations?? They would be grown indoors, unless I manage to magic up a greenhouse.
Looking forward to the allotment pics, taff. I'm not envious at allI have ankle problems, so literally feel your pain.
Hope the raspberry car is still available, twopenny, will you take it for a test drive if it is??
Farway, glad the knee is improving. I would think the actual massaging in of the stinky TB would be beneficial too.
OT, it's still very still here, with low cloud. The Aurora was visible again last night, but not for us with cloudy skies.'A watched potato will never chit'...7 -
Lovely photo of the Lily, Less (I forgot to refresh)... My hollyhock was nibbled by a passing bunny in the Summer - it's still in leaf, but no sign of any late flowers.'A watched potato will never chit'...6

Shame about the dizzy & headaches, at least weather is carp so not missing much.Bush toms, indoors, one I grow in the conservatory, and have done for a few years, is Balcony yellow [also comes in red]Never fails, can get whitefly indoors, like most toms, spraying stops them.I grow in wall baskets but would be fine in a pot on a window sillSmall, sweet & tasty tomsAnd, by pure coincidence, here are the very last of mine, taken, and eaten, this lunchtimeShop for info only, not a rec, other suppliers are available, often on offer. . https://seedmegastore.co.uk/tomato-f1-balconi-yellow/excuse the typo, Y not T
