Awful weather - typical Brits talk

Hello everyone,
I have been reading along with interest! I have finally managed to be able to log onto the forum from home so I feel much better
There have been some amazing photo's over the last couple of weeks. The aurora pics were spectacular PP - really the best amateur ones I have seen. Such special memories for you of your trip. I thought Sheena the sheep was a stunner - she almost seemed human the way she was looking at the camera!
I like seeing the Canute related pics Dusty - it always amuses me that people don't grasp basic physics and the power of Mother Nature. Your garden looked lovely even though it was waterlogged. I had a lorra lorra Laurel (a la Cilla Black!) in the garden at my last house. I had a large garden, 2 kids and self employed income so I had to try and tame it every year - I couldn't afford anyone to tend to it for me and it ended up being the bane of my gardening life. I had to make sure I did it each year otherwise if got way out of hand. You have my sympathies
I hope everyone who has been under the weather is back on form or at least on the right track. It's this time of year isn't it almost everyone I know is nursing a cold at the moment.
I have picked the last of my sweet peas but the tomatoes haven't ripened.
I have two salvia's in pots and wondering what to do with these over winter - I only put them in last year and was ill at this time in 2023 so just left them and they've bloomed this summer. Am just a bit worried in case that was a fluke and I should actually do something.
I thought I'd share this pic from walking the dog this morning - this is the MOON!! I don't think i've ever seen it looking so magnificent in a morning.
OT is a beautifully crisp sunny day here - I'm WFH and have got my back door open and it's bliss.
Wishing everyone a really smashing day!

Coming on in the middle of the afternoon just feels wrong. I'm upright and breathing and walking about, sitting is ok for a few minutes but not longer, and bending is painful at one exact angle but other than that I'm alright
Bruise is going through the motions, and wrist has decided it wants the limelight or it's not bothering so I'm almost back to 2 things now.
I was honestly expecting some mock-up of a fellah in a bikini Dusty! Is Canute plotting his next move do you think..?
I like the look of that jasmine 2p, good that it keeps its leaves too. I know what you mean about gc's being overmuch, I keep having to dissuade Posh Friend from asking to go to one. For duvet weights, would using 2 skinny fluffy ones be alright on your achey bits rather than one skinny feather one? I see them (both kinds) in the charity shops. I've just re-read your post - I'd say my 1 skinny 4tog feather one is lighter and as warm or warmer than my 10tog fluffy duvet. Is that a help?
Funny you mentioned apple tree pruning and #Shawshank Less, my Discovery Tescoii is going manky and queer and when I get a pic I was for asking advice on it. Hopefully I'm not too late...
Good luck with the fresh puncturing Farway, Hide+Seek vein sufferer here too.
Bluddy 'ell pp, the corona! That is something special
Welcome back wm, nice of your 'puter to stop sulking and play nice againOr did you give it a light thrashing and swear at it a bit? #NoJudgement Looking at the colour of that moon you'd think it was the sun
Full moon tonight my phone says. I snipped my toms off and fetched them in, they're ripening slowly inside, so I can recommend that.
OT warm sunny light breeze, a really lovely day. Right, pics.I removed the shell from my racing snail, but now it's more sluggish than ever.9 -
Apple tree. Is it sick is it? What can I do with it? Don’t anybody say cut the bad bits off cos I’d have nowt left! Here’s the whole thing, in case something shows up that I don’t recognise -I removed the shell from my racing snail, but now it's more sluggish than ever.6

Poppy that is just stunning! Surely a framed wall picture?Hi WM, what a lovely start to the day. Does look like sun though, very confusing. No idea about Salvias. They live or die in my garden and it depends on variety what you do with them.Bluey, your bits don't sound like much fun. Darn that they keep hanging around. Hope you wake up with a miracle cure. I wait for that every day
Thanks for the duvet details. I'd like a 4. That's just about right but may change my mind come mid winter.
You apple......does Heyssiewhatsit have anything to say in his book? It doesn't look good. Something mildewey. Probably the weather and a case of getting rind of all leaves that drop round the tree to stop infection next year.Read everyone else this morning and can't quite remember. Mrs Dustys garden looked lovely as did the riverFarway is full of holes. I feel much the same as there seems to be a Mossie around and it bites once a day but they don't go away for a week or so. Friend also has to go back for more tests as her veins couldn't be found. She's not happy. No gardening other than emptying all the buckets, cans and such that filled with rain to wash and dry them and put away. A heck of a lot of water. I even had to drain out the water fountain!I did sit in the sun with lunch and real struggle should I sit in that lovely warm sun or get some exercise. Turns out the exercise wasn't good for me and I should have enjoyed the sun. Cold again tonight with clear skies and more rain tomorrow - sun in morn when I'm indoor doings and rain in the afternoon when I'm freeI can rise and shine - just not at the same time!
viral kindness .....kindness is contageous pass it on

mmmm YBE - I'm going to go with a bad case of scab, (it has been very very wet this year), so all fallen apple leaves should be gathered up and burnt. If you are intending to espalier I would sort out your tiers this winter and prune accordingly.(Can I just say the photos on this thread have been so lovely to look at - thank you).Fashion on the Ration 2025 37/668

wow PP, that's amazeballs...and them are some scary cats who look like holding a flick knife would be no bother at alland ybe, i also was very disappointed to find no Dusty in a bikini...that would have made my year I reckon. Hope the sore bits are easing off [ are you sure you didn't break the wrist? just checking] no idea about the tree, I've just done a crash reading course on pruning apple trees and it's already gone out of my head.lovely nice big stream there too, and I do like the pergola, is she available for hire? still not selling the buddleia though..that was an excellent deal on the pots, that's is super cheap!Nothing much happening here, haven't done any winter clearing in the garden yet, the borage is on it's last gasp with some bumbles hanging around so I'll leave it a while longer.Non me fac calcitrare tuum culi6

Sunny day again, huge moon last night, and a misty morning.I bet if I'd been up, there was a super misty moon pic to be had. I just don't have that kind of photo drive but saw a local FB post, chap getting up early & driving down to New Forest this morning just because of mist & moon. That's about an hour's travelling at least. That said, I may have got off bum to go down to Portsmouth for great South Run pics this Sunday, I could catch a Park & Ride bus for thatHowever, this Sunday, all being well, I am over DS and maybe in GC café & Halloween tat mooch. Before I forget, Seed offer, quid a packet at Mr F's, need to pay P & P of £2.45Did I hear Hurst Green Shaft peas & Sungold toms? Actually, it would be a good time to try something pricey, the daft over £4 for six seeds type, blight resistant maybe? or unusual. I'll have a browse laterI picked the last Divine tom yesterday, really ripened in the conservatory. You can tell Mrs Dusty, very tasty, bit of a tough skin, but that could be my growing conditions. These were tried because on offer BTW, but from T & M at the timeYour tree YBE, don't know, but I think I'd follow AliceF advice & remove fallen leaves & try to keep tree clean this winter, fingers crossed for next year. The weather has been unkind to some trees, two I planted this year are suffering despite watering, I think long dry spells and then drowning has not helped.Autumn arrived a last, here are some leaves, fallen fruit [Laura crab apple], fungus & flowers

That looks like a home page-worthy photo Farway!

Quick update, DT Brown now has £1 seeds, same P & P of £2.45, but you may find something there that is not on Mr FDusty, if interested for next year, Veranda red £1https://www.dtbrownseeds.co.uk/products/tomato-veranda-red-seeds

Afternoon, all.
I had pressing matters to attend-to this morning, namely the ride-on stuck on an incline, though it was safe enough, tied to a tree with lorry rope!
It needed some persuasion, but it's in its stable now, safe from the impending rain. You might ask what a ride-on was doing, out on the loose with the ground so wet, but I might not reply!
Lovely moon shot WM. It was so good I didn't look at all the other ones online.Like Farway I coulda, shoulda, woulda had some brilliant opportunities this morning, but the will to take them wasn't there.
It was back to bed after the station run and chicken reveille!
-taff said:lovely nice big stream there too, and I do like the pergola, is she available for hire? ge is on it's last gasp withHere we are, not yet into autumn proper, and already she's sneezing away like someone who doesn't take zillions of supplements, or eat real food.
She's letting the side down, but I'll forgive, as she's still doing the washing, ironing etc, while I play silly beggars with mowers and chain saws. Every year, I think, "I'll get a head-start on the winter jobs!" and every year the weather intervenes.
It's raining now, just enough to be annoying. The stream had fallen about 20cm by yesterday afternoon, and it was lower still today, so here's an updated picture for WM and taff . The detritus level shows where it reached:.
This is the least photogenic bit of the stream; it's mostly babbling along properly. As to what Mr Canute is planning next, Bluey, err, he's already done it, but I'll tell you by email soon.#neveradullmoment!
LessImpecunious said:That looks like a home page-worthy photo Farway!I can do the fungi, but not the rest. Oak leaves are turning now, though. Not sure I can do copperplate writing either!
I hope Bluey, Farway and others here feeling delicate soon recover. I'm sure Mrs Dusty will.WM, the answer re Salvias is as 2p says....it depends on location, exact cultivar and what sort of winter it is. For example, S. jamensis 'Nachtvlinder' always seems to survive, whereas some others on the pages in the link below haven't done so for us."There is no such thing as a low-energy rich country."
