Wonderful pictures Poppy!Ah the moon, I wrote here why it;s tricky but completely forgotten now. I especially love the beach, would love to be there now. We have something similar but there's always buildings and such in the way.Not much to report here. At least it's dry today so I've emptied all the containers again, the ones I emptied the other day
It's on the list to clean and store them today. All sorts of house nonsense and a swim/table tennis to fit in. Looks like the sun will be out as I'm inside again but there's a wash on and the neighbours builders are cutting concrete so not much of a day to mooch in the garden.
Fingers crossed we get the dry they've promised a few days this week and I can get on with the bulbs/turf/pruning etc. Oh and the paver fixing, cement filling..........no wonder I never get to the end.Worts empty fieldI've got lots like that where I say well look it's there at some tiny dot.
Dusty I've had that scratchy throat, feeling off and such waiting for it to go one way or another. But agreed, there's people out and about coughing loudly in small shops so there's been a lot of swift exits.Bluey it's ok to have a good sulk. Sometimes it's just a stop and gather exercise. Just remember not to stay in your pit too long, you're missing nice thingsSo Farway, have you come back with illuminated spiders or waving santa clauses?I don't need to post any photos, Poppys will do for a while as I dream of that beach instead of a volume of cars and noise outside.I can rise and shine - just not at the same time!

Your tree photos are lovely and natural, pp.
I dare say if you fed them through a photo editing program, you could make them more vivid, but there's nothing wrong with subtle. I like the sand dune grasses too. Despite the wide vista, those draw the eye immediately.
The tickly froat is still lurking today, though happily, no worse, and I've maybe snored a lot little! As others have said, 'everyone' seems to have some version of the lurgy at present. That's very much in line with the theories of someone who's been unpopular for years now. I couldn't possibly comment.
I'd only bserve we aren't into winter weather yet. In fact, it doesn't look as if we'll light the wood burner at all this month.
As for helping out the 'elderly' neighbours, anywhere else there would be more than us pitching-in. It's such a shame the enclave where they live is unlike most 'proper' communities. Those who might help to make it more friendly and supportive are also unwell, so tied-up with their own troubles....and then there are the landlords / second homers. We're expecting big changes in the next year or two, and they can't be for the worse!
As hinted the other day, I'm running out of photos, but here's where the wooden propagator pictured recently was sitting this time last year. I didn't think the Berberis darwinii would 'take.' Now, I'd better dig them out and pot up, PDQ!Here's hoping Bluey has forgiven me and Farway isn't still buried in an avalanche of tat!"There is no such thing as a low-energy rich country." Back again!Yesterday the weather was awful, despite me decrying them as wimps for cancelling the Run, in the end I think it was the right call.Journey to DS in the morning was OK, a bit of rain, but the retune PM was horrendous, couldn't see a thing on the motorway due to combination of rain, sea mist / low cloud. One journey, I was very glad to complete.GC was also rubbish, with no Halloween tat, all Christmas stuff, but at heart stopping prices
. The fancy jams with cloth hats on for £6 type, and fancy cakes, made with gawd knows what, BBE Nov 2025, that cake would probably last longer than me.
Needless to say, absolutely no garden related items like reduced seeds or plantsIt was a nice scone & butter though, so not entirely wastedDS fruit trees, as expected, are terrible, the only consolation is I can offer YBE some hope for her apple tree.DS has a Golden Delicious I foolishly gave him some years back, hoping that maybe he would find it useful, young family, free fruit etcHe has neglected & abused it, never eats any of the fruit, just lets it fall & rot.But it keeps on going, yesterday it was in the wind & rain with pounds [weight & cash £] of GD yellow ripe apples on the tree.I'm sure he's mocking me at times, said he needed to buy a jar of Apple sauce, the little big s0dLovely pics everyone, and I like the Eyebrows one I thought was very good, and the Autumn colours, as they should be. I saw some yesterday but nowhere near as good. Thanks for pointing out Jupiter, I saw similar this morning and wondered what the “star” was.Rain has stopped, and it's calmer, but far too soggy to get out into gardenNo photos, I had hoped for a Polar bear & tinsel type, but nothing like that available in GC I went to, best would have been a jar of marmalade with a fancy lace capEight out of ten owners who expressed a preference said their cats preferred other peoples gardens6 -
All is forgiven Dusty, and helping your neighbours will restore your karma
Hopefully they'll find more community wherever they move to :fingerscrossed: The Invisible Fighting Fish
Lovely chewy accents! Oh and did they find that water tap under the stables yet...?
Well I like your 'poor' photos pp but I bet they were amazinger in real life cos these things always areGlad you're back safe and sound and didn't get blown away/blown to bits by the wind.
What a difference the sun on something can make eh wort, your acer is making me want one but I really don't have any more room
Never mind your inside jobs, get out in the sun while you've got it 2p! I'm only in my pit a bit longer than normal, now I get up after himself goes to work. Still does seem lazy mind....
Does someone need to invent a middle ground between nurseries and tat sheds gc's then? Seems like it'd be a gold mine. That's a bu99er about DS's fruit trees Farway, seems you done raised you a wrong'unBut you've still got Superstar GD so I spose it balances out
I rang Cissie last night and made the mistake out telling her about the misery in my back. I'm not to let anything else go wrong or she'll be on the next plane she said. She also said she hopes "thon Englishman" is taking proper of me but I don't think I can say that out loud, it's probably anti-human rights or summatAnyway. The fields round her lane are boggy again and "wouldn't take a tyre" so the farmer has reverted to horses to get it ploughed. She was sat at her back door in the sun with a glass of Eau de Vie happily watching them all afternoon. #ThisIsWhyStereotypesPersist
OT cloudy and windy and cool, just like the drunkards promised. Not sunny and warmish and windy like the sobers predicted.
Oh and himself is calling my bruise my Pride Stripe, cos it's a full rainbow of colours ha haa!I removed the shell from my racing snail, but now it's more sluggish than ever.5 -
You've reminded me about the caterpillar pic I took in Sutherland, Dusty - DH said it looked like a sea cucumber
I'm glad you've got some dry weather at last, twopenny. We've still got the remnants of Storm Ashley here.
That's a shame about DS and his apple tree, Farway, but at least the birds will be happy (and any mischievous scrumpers) the apples won't go to waste. Talking of apple sauce, an apple butter recipe popped up on my faceache page yesterday - spooky, after working_mum (I think) posted about making some.
YBE, I like the image of Cissie sat on her doorstep sipping Eau de Vie and watching the farmer ploughing his field with horses - it sounds idyllic and not stereotypical at allWe came across a wee village on our travels (with a pub made famous by the film Whisky Galore!) and there were loads of horses just wandering around freely. I've probably got a photo...
OT, it's been wet and windy and sunny and grey all day... Crazy weather - these pics were taken two minutes apart, pointing in the same direction.

Glad I've been pardoned, Bluey. OK, I made a promise I didn't keep, but that's not as serious as tweeting wrongthink, or pretending to be a Swiftie.
I've no update on the 150mm water main situation, but the people doing the private drainage work burst a smaller pipe with the digger last week. There was mayhem because no one knew where the stop taps were. They were buried under grass about 100m away. I've no idea why so far, but apparently many are controlled from there. Again, if they were a real community, someone would have a plan of everything or at least know where important stuff is.Mind you, if the contractor was any good, he'd have traced them before digging, like we did with their electric cables.
Good that you are mending before Cissie can come over and 'assist!'Pp, have a look at the Square-spot Rustic moth (Xestia xanthographa) It might be your caterpillar. If it isn't, I'm sure Alice will know what it is.The two ends of the country have obviously been very different wind-wise today. Here, smoke was going straight up. I didn't think I'd get a bonfire going for all the hornbeam brash, but it went very well. I should maybe say we're snowed-under with woodchip already. Mrs Dusty gave the guys permission to drop the oak tree chips when they reduced some branches near the power line. They obviously took this to mean they could dump a whole tipper load! They'll be great mulch.....in 2028!

PP I like the autumn colours, it’s frustrating they don’t turn out like real life in photos. Glad you’ve enjoyed your adventures, apart from the crazy road.
Dusty the fish clip is hilarious 😂,I wonder if people would still fall for it now.
Farway sorry no cheapo seeds or plants, but yeah for cake .
YBE I hope the flag is fading, and causing less bother. I also think Cissie has the right idea, sitting glass in hand taking in the good life.
Sunday afternoon calmed right down , and it felt warm in the sun though it was still blowy. Today started with heavy downpours but forecast is mostly clear, I’m walking into town, so hoping it’s correct.Focus on contribution instead of the impressiveness of consumption to see the true beauty in people.5 -

The latter was filmed in many locations, but predominantly in the area, twixt Glasgow and the East Coast. I've not seen it, but the first one made quite an impression on me as a child. Was it the rebellious nature of the plot? Who knows, but I recall enjoying it.
I also remember with affection the 'Vital Spark' (Para Handy) series, set on a trawler in the Western Isles. That was probably before your time as well!A decent morning here, with a potentially favourable bonfire breeze. My froat lurgy is no better, so it may excuse me from a meeting, which doesn't include a yummy lunch, like the one Mrs Dusty had to excuse herself from last week!"There is no such thing as a low-energy rich country." Sunny here, looks quite pleasant out there now, and no wind moving trees. I may even get into the garden to check if any storm damage from the weekend.Hope the froat eases Dusty, and I've not forgotten about Judas tree seeds, I'll check on "ripeness" if I get into the garden, all the leaves on the tree are just about gone, so I'll check.Neighbour did ask if she could lop some Judas off that was overhanging. No objection from me, but if they ever do, I may ask them to take a few feet off the top for me while they are at it.
, my spiel checker thing tell me LOP is offensive
, I have ignored it, but apologies if anyone knows how it offends and is offended
Hope your Pride bruise is easing YBE and you are soon back to normalBig surprise when I looked out the front this morning. My canna may be about to flower again, new spike with what looks like opening bud. I'll get a photo when the sun moves round, just in case Jack Frost pops along.Photo today is a toadstool spotted, end of last week, at the Volunteer spotI've ponced about enhanced it with mood lighting & a frame using my newly found Photoshop 7 from 2000Eight out of ten owners who expressed a preference said their cats preferred other peoples gardens8 -
Started off sunny this morning and promising but the 'shower' predicted has happened as rain so that's the lawn mowing out, very wet again out there.Deciding whether to go to the big town before half term or wait and see what dries up but is there any point as it will all be Christmas stuff. It's the one thing that seems to have survived the pandemic and come out with knobs onDarn about the throat Dusty. Perhaps that's fighting off the real bug so less is getting rid of more. How's the bruises today Bluey? Would the wine, a good book and garden chair help?Wonder what Wort is going into town for? There are still some bulbs being sold off cheap to make way for Christmas tat.Lovely Moon Poppy, you can see the detail too. We had a huge rainbow yesterday but it didn't stop it rainingI reckon Arbs is busy redesigning the garden and preserving this years produce.I was going to upload a weather photo but tonight I think. We have a bright if damp day and quite mild so a day to be taken advantage of.
I can rise and shine - just not at the same time!
