Amazing how we survivedI also remember that if you had a heart problem you were in hospital and the trolly bough round brandy because 'that was good for you'Aww Wort, at least you got a cosy bed for the night and some rest I guess.Farway, I've left the bulbs in their pots and stored in a dry part of the garden but we've had so much rain lately there's even some shoots on them. I tried this last year, just topping off with new compost and it worked. Then I just have to swap the small pots over summer and winter.I did put some bulbs in the ground thinking it would save me watering and such but they didn't do well and didn't grow high enough to look pretty over my mini hedge so I want to get out there and repot those. I seem to have a trug full
Don't know how that happened
Still have some 'good' JI compost. Half a bag now so that will see me through to next year and then who knows.Feeling uninspired in this constant damp grey gloom. Was considering a trip dropping in at a village library for a book I want and then on to the garden centre. Not sure if that's a good idea as so much needs doing in the garden already.I can rise and shine - just not at the same time!

Late to the party....twopenny said:Yes Bluey, it's a lovely walk, waterfalls and ponds. Used to do it spring and autumn with a friend, coffee at hers, lunch at the lodge, ice cream going back. All changed now but hoping to do it again one fine day - whenever that is!I've made a note of that 2p, especially the fact it's easier, and the free parking.
Thanks.
I need easy right now!
Yesterday was a washout, but I fixed my mains-powered chainsaw. Just didn't fancy running it in the rain. The part came for my battery-powered one this morning, so hopefully I'm back to firewood production soon. Who knows what they'll have taken from us by the time the trees I'm harvesting now are dry enough to burn?
Now I hear we may have power outages soon, but it'll all be worth it for lowering our carbon footprint.
Here's a graph which should make us all feel good:
Yes, we're really embarrassing the Chinese! They'll soon follow our example.Oh dear Bluey, it's we older folk that are supposed to fall over, not you whipper-snappers!Let's hope not boneular, just brusified. I had some cracking purple splodges on my legs last week thanks to the logs I was splitting, flying into me. One year I'll remember.... shin pads!
They've almost faded so the bikini bottoms can come out tomorrow. Mind you, they'll probably look like shorts.
I too remember Mrs Dusty drinking Mackeson and Guinness for medicinal purposes, Farway. She still does, occasionally, but happily, not because more offspring are on the way!The non-alcoholic Guinness is pretty good, but that's not an advert, just an observation. Other beverages are available.
Was the rest of your weather OK, over in Southern Spain, wort? You didn't miss anything here. Not much in the new photo line, so here is my favourite Salvia 'Amistad' still performing, though the supporting cast has mostly been whipped away now, leaving her bare at the bottom. Dusty the walk from the cottage isn't as scenic as the one from Rockford, but just the difference between beautiful and spectacular and yes easier and you get to your scone quicker pre half term, that wayLooking forward to the photos.I'm still hanging around trying to find broadband deals. It's all got a lot more complicated especially if you only want basic, low usage - no vouchers etc.

2p not me who is unwell , but wouldn’t mind snuggling up with a book anyway . I love the the river pic that would look fab in a frame on the wall.
oh lordy YBE another bruise to add to your woes, fingers crossed that’s all now.
Farway and Taff
hope you are feeling better soon.
Ive got the wash out and it’s quite blowy so hopefully, take most the wet off it. Done a full house clean through, why I feel the need to do it before the holiday then when I get back I’ll never know. Thursday might be ok to do next wash load if the forcast is correct, plus a bit of garden tidying.
I went in the garage and bagged up the garden seat cushions, and took in the glass topped coffee table.
lots of folks seem to have colds and coughs now, so picked up some vitamin tablets a couple of week ago ,I just need to remember to take them.Focus on contribution instead of the impressiveness of consumption to see the true beauty in people.7 -
“Was the rest of your weather OK, over in Southern Spain, wort? You didn't miss anything here.“ oh yes Dusty, perfect in fact. Around 24 with a slight breeze which made sitting out lovely, after a nice morning’s walk along the promenade. Apparently Almeria is quite desert like and it was certainly quite barren as we drove from the airport.

We won't mind greatly if it has to be later, though the autumn colours won't be so good. My walking friend can't have a cream tea, and I shouldn't have one,
so if the café closes, it won't matter. We're used to 'basic.'
Speaking of walks, here's the last photo from the Dulverton one that caused me knee problems. The trees are just beginning to turn. We came down that very steep hill behind the church, which I found even harder than the half mile or so of 1:4 or worse, going up. The book warns: “A long and steep climb up Loosehall Lane.” They weren't joking!Happily, the part I ordered arrived and fitted my wee chainsaw properly, so it was up and running again this afternoon.I also did an hour with the large one, cutting up the oak the National Grid guys left when they 'pruned' our tree near the 11kV line. I didn't finish, so they took down quite a large amount this time.
The rain arrived just after I packed-up.Apparently we're in Yellow Warning territory again, so it was handy the drain people spent ages siphoning out muck from the gullies here today.
I'd just sat down to type this, when there was a knock at the door. People were out looking for a disabled person who'd gone missing, so I took a nearby lane and checked all the gateways /fields within easy range. Happily, as I was peering about in the gathering gloom, the person was found, unharmed, in their back garden. They'd fallen behind the compost heap.

Oh Dusty that’s lucky they found them, hope they were not injured. The view is great not sure if I’ve enough puff for a 1 in 4 let alone the rest . Well done hope the knee is better soon.Focus on contribution instead of the impressiveness of consumption to see the true beauty in people.6

Horrendously wet this morning
....and no sign of much let-up.
Those in Englandshire, east of Swindon, look to be faring somewhat better.
Without wishing to gloat over others' misfortunes, I can't see much digger work or roofing being done for a day or two. It was around this time last year when we finally climbed from the mire of red tape others had needlessly enmeshed us in, too late to contemplate groundwork. We certainly wouldn't have taken the roof off then, either! It seems quite 'appropriate' two of the people responsible for our woes last year are now up against British seasonal weather themselves...and at the wrong end of it too.

I used to think taking extra supplements was a load of hogwash until doctors told me otherwise, especially in one's more 'mature' years. I can't say more than that, but there's around 4 worth considering (with your own doctor's approval, of course) to assist the immune system, especially in the winter months. And, OK, I wouldn't go out there just now
, but a daily dose of fresh air and exercise is the other thing, even if just a trip to the compost bin. There's always something to see that may boost spirits. Yesterday, I spotted a Schizostylis I'd no knowledge of, blooming away where we can hardly see it. That's one plant I'm glad they've renamed; it's now Hesperantha. Yes, still a mouthful, but no Schizo, Sherlock!
On a dull day like this, something cheery is called for. How about this jolly cup & saucer arrangement from the recent show?I think it won."There is no such thing as a low-energy rich country." Dr Chris Martenson. Peak Prosperity7 -
That is a fabulous view Dusty! I used to work in the house top left so I know the hill well - but I was a lot younger then
Everyone had sinusitis from the damp what with the river, hills and trees. And it was different seasons to where I lived. Each village on the moor has a different climate.
Autumn colours at the Lyn valley? It's surprising. I had many attempts but it's sheltered and/or less sun so it could be earlier or later. I've not found a reliable answer.Nothing much to write here again, as Dusty says, it continues with the dark and rain so no chance for gardening. The sun came out for the 'sunny spells' for all of 20mins yesterday. Today is reading 15c and that's better. The wet is making it feel cool though.Bluey, I had the winter quilt on the other night but it was heavy after the summer one and it's now cluttering up the bedroom. I considered a feather quilt but research said they were heavier. What do you think?Nearly succumed to some boxed plants, Anenomne Blanda (lucky if I got that spelling right!) while at the supermarket but went for a drive by the sea instead and - saw a mother and baby porpoise right close into shore! I grabbed the camera and of course they were never seen againBut I got chatting to an older guy with a big fancy camera who aparantly lives in a van travelling and taking photos just for the pleasure. I quite fancy that.
Meantime I'm going to have a morning dash out and go to the far off GCs just to see the world and if it's still mild and not too rainy I'll don the old wellies and have a go at turf digging which should be easier as it's sodden. I'm definitely missing my holidays I haven't had for 7yrs with the weather we've had this year.I can rise and shine - just not at the same time!

Grey but at least dry for the momentVery drab & damp still, not gardening or even mooching about weatherGood about finding chap behind compost heap Dusty, sounds like something I'd succumb to.Oddly enough, I was watching a YT vid on things people find using Google Earth, missing person etc. and they found a deceased old lady who had wandered out of her front gate and just fallen down the hill opposite. She had been missing a couple of years, which points to poor initial search IMO.I think you are allowed a slight smirk at your neighbour's lack of progress, Karma is a handy at timesGood hunting among the GC Tat 2P, at least it's fresh air.I’m tempted to go to my useless & expensive local one. Like you, more for an outing, but they do have an impressive & maybe photo worthy, Halloween display, impressive if you are six anyway. But then I think I'll be doing the same if I get to visit DS this weekend, assuming their coughs etc have goneTough luck on the porpoises, one day maybe?Oooh, sun's come out. Possibly I will get to squelch down the garden later. My neighbour, the plant killer, has left some large flower pots on the wall for me, she knows I have uses for them, these look ideal to overwinter the Morries Loganberry & Merton blackberry in.Eight out of ten owners who expressed a preference said their cats preferred other peoples gardens7
