YoungBlueEyes said:Morning all. An actual short post this morning cos my router’s died so I’m on my phone on my data.Apart from that bit it’s a wholly OT post. I finally put a duvet in the cover last night - I had to, the BBC said it’d be -80 😆twopenny said:Dusty, don't get carried away with the sunshine. Pace youself - as we are constantly being told.I've had to go slowly this week.....Mrs Dusty's orders!
Last Friday's tough walk exposed weaknesses.
I'm back on a modest exercise regime and doing no demanding walks for a while.
It's sad, as there's some more good weather coming up, but looking after knees and strengthening the right muscles is No1 priority. It's a fine balance between doing too much or too little at this age, but you know that!

No Aurora here, I was all set, camera to hand near the window etc, but it clouded over & zilch.Blue sky & sunshine now, of course.Dustyevsky said:East Angular? Another productive text error, or a cute way to suggest less extreme terrain?
, East Angular was used, believing East Anglia was called that, by some briefly famous reality TV “star” whose loaf was notoriously short of a few slices.
She became quite well known, sometimes for the wrong reasons, but was used, derided and mocked by TV.I suspect she was unable to spot “clever” TV people were taking the mick or setting her up.I never watched her, but it all ended in tears of course, she died from cancer a few years laterPP Hope your return run was not as bad as you feared. Hi, just back last night after a 24 hr delay , which meant I didn’t get yesterday to sort the suitcase and get out in the lovely weather you were having here. It was tea and bed. Lovely holiday though we had 50 mile an hour winds on the real last night.
Back to work today so won’t get out till Tuesday, the lavender cuttings will have done a bluey as I didn’t move before leaving, so fingers crossed 🤞🏻 thanks Farway and YBE.
enjoy your hol Pp. lovely orange sunset.
Got back to find that on the evening we should have been back for, the whole of the area had wonderful pics of the northern lights !! So missed them again !!!!Hope all are well will catch up soon 😉Focus on contribution instead of the impressiveness of consumption to see the true beauty in people.7 -
Thanks all, we made it
Lots to tell you and pics to show.
I'll post again later, but just about to go down for a lovely Scottish breakfast...'A watched potato will never chit'...7 -
Router's back up and running so I can have a nearly full go this morning!
That's a bu99er you missed the Standing Stones pp, hopefully the drive back was a bit easier though? Looking forward to more pics
Am I the only one who got Farway's East Angular line..? I guess I'm very old too then ha haa. I can hear her saying it - "East Angular? Ain't that abroad?" A lot of people shamelessly made a lot of money off her. Poor soul.
That's a cracking row of Autumnal trees 2p, just right for dog walking. LovelyIs your neighbour's extension big big then? Will you still be able to see sunrises...? Not tech detoxing, but I'm trying to spend less time on here. I do this thread first and then see what other boards I can get a bit of fun out of. But what I don't do now is come back to this one if I get a notification someone else has posted cos otherwise I'd be sat here all day
My emails are boogered so I need to sort that out. It's not picking them up but will sometimes send them. I mean what's the point of that?! If you're gonna die on me, just do it and I'll start another one
I'll check the techie board and see if anyone else is suffering the same.
That looks like a good whack of work you've got done there Dusty. I thought that was interesting too about laurel containing cyanide. Do you have to wear protective gear then?
Welcome back wortNot a bit wonder you were delayed, did they claim it was the wind we've had
Did you have a good hol? Fingers firmly crossed for your lavender.
I missed the lights too but weren't the pics on the news amazingIt really is a wonderful world isn't it.
OT raining a bit, proper rain to come. No breeze. Cool. And yes the duvet came back off the bed, for it was tooo waaarrmm. Why aren't cool summer duvets fit for purpose? That looks like a good whack of work you've got done there Dusty. I thought that was interesting too about laurel containing cyanide. Do you have to wear protective gear then?I suspect not getting the joke put me in a minority. She was very well known, so I'd heard of her, but not much more than that. In those far-off days, I was in hamster-wheel mode, doing a full-time job and the nursery on top.
The only media I engaged with was Radio 4, and the computer was either for work or printing hundreds of labels. (Around that time, we made the little old lady with an indelible pen redundant!
)
The laurel reduction looks rather less impressive than I'd hoped. I'm just unsure whether to press-on or do the rest in the spring. There's so much more tree-chopping to do. Handling laurel is OK. When you cut it, there's a sweet, almond smell, that might be the cyanide, bur short of chewing a stem, there's no great danger. It's not in the Monkshood league.Happy returns to the UK, wort.....you've not missed a lot.The BBC tried to distract us with Armageddon-force winds, but did it in the wrong week. Autumn Budget isn't until 30th.
Looking forward to those pictures, pp. Inspiredby 2p's autumnal photo, I took this one this morning. It seems we're getting there."There is no such thing as a low-energy rich country." Dr Chris Martenson. Peak Prosperity8 -
Glad everyone's back safe and sound.Poppy you sound cheerier so perhaps it wasn't as bad as you thought 2nd time around? Please send me a Scottish breakfast down hereWort, what did you do for the extra hours? That sounds awful! Lavender cuttings, that's something I should do.Dusty, I had working legs yesterday so I got up a ladder and chopped down half an elder tree. I wan't them at the back for birds but at a height I can trim easily. It wasn't as difficult as I thought but mind I have a load of wood and leaves to get down the tip on their short hours - and it rained last night, which wasn't forcast. No sign of the sunny spells predicted. Very cold and damp with grey sky. Did so much yesterday I feel idle today.I love the signature below someones posts that says 'I think I'm solar powered' - that's so right in my caseBluey, I used to have an all seasons duvet. It was a 10tog+4tog that could be used seperately or together. I think they still make them but you need to search. Worked really well.I'm trying to keep my big and little hand made quilts which are light and pretty as long as possible but the heating has gone on each morning and evening for a bit.
I can rise and shine - just not at the same time!

Back home & duly jabbed, one in each arm to ensure I don't have an easy side to sleep on tonightIt's raining, not a lot, just enough to not be out in it from choiceBefore it's too late, temptation calling, Mr F has 30% off everything this weekend + free P & P30% OFF all our products and FREE postage and packaging on every order.Discount automatically applied at checkoutI've not yet looked, but this could be your chancePre jab I popped into the volunteer spot to check how things are growing. All's well, and the large pot with fuchsia in, that I thought may have vine weevils? You may recall the roots were getting chomped, and I dug up, checked over & replanted deeper to try & get fresh roots. That seems to have worked, they are growing again and the rest of the plants in the pot seem OK, maybe it was some other bug chomping the roots? Whatever, all seems well for nowUnlike Dusty nicely framed misty pic, nothing here in mellow autumn range to take photos of.But the Rosanne geranium I planted in pot is flowering, so that's settled in OK, and a bunch of Self sown Shoo fly have shot up & are in flower. Photos to follow.Talking about lavender, there is a white one I planted in pot at volunteer place, it's loving it. I can't make up my mind if I like the white over the normal purple, but it's certainly robust enough for now.Welcome back, Wort + PP safe & sound. And YBE router fixed, just needs the e-mail sorted, and people wonder why the concept of self-driving cars is not universally welcomeNo gardening, rain & jabs, may settle down with GW laterI'll be later or MIA tomorrow, all being well heading I'm West to visit DS, we usually finish up in GC with a café and Olde Farm Shoppe, will the penguins & reindeers be out yet, or just pumpkins, goblins & spooks?I will of course be looking for any reduced garden tatEight out of ten owners who expressed a preference said their cats preferred other peoples gardens8

Ooh talk about an atmospheric picture Dusty, I can smell the wet earth from here
I like the big plant in the foreground, and the wee sunlit thing on the right of it. Bet they don't need any worrying about. I don't know your laurel... is it better to do one thing completely or get two things half started? I bet MrsD is waiting to give you the answer
I've got an all seasons duvet 2p, I lifted it in the Dunelm sale last year. Thing is it's a feathery one so the thin bit is warm enough on it's own to be our winter duvetThe thick one is on the bed in the back bedroom. Nobody tells you how warm feathers are, I thought 4 tog would be alright for summer. Wrong again. We had a fluffy-not-feathery 4.5 tog on the bed, and I'm sure I had a skinnier one than that but can I bluddy find it? No joy at all finding a 1 or 2 tog duvet yesterday, some of the shop people looked at me like I was a crazy person
How's your flippers this morning Farway? Hopefully you got some sleep? Nice to hear you've outfoxed the vine weavels. White lavender sounds appealing, does it smell like a purple one? Or does your brain tell you it doesn't because your eyes can see the colour's wrong different? Good luck battling your way through the Halloween/Christmas/Easter tat at the gc.
OT not warm at all here. It was musical here when I got up (3') and no I'll not tire of that joke ha haa! Not a bad sunrise but nowt special. It's a grand drying day here, cold strong wind and low humidity. Lovely. Pressure's rising tooIt'll do.
